- If you're trying to unlock Twitch Affiliate, you just need 3 average viewers.
The thing is I realized that a lot of people don’t understand that while becoming a Twitch Affiliate is cool, it doesn’t actually change anything or really matter, and focusing so hard on becoming an affiliate will really hurt your growth.
This is because of a few BIG mistakes that you need to avoid in order to grow to 3 average viewers!

How To Create A Stream Schedule To Grow Your Stream
The first step to growing your average viewers is consistency, and that means a schedule. I have mentioned this a few times but people are creatures of habit, which isn’t a bad thing. We all have a certain routine to our day, and enjoying Twitch is just another part of that routine.
If you want people to return to your stream, and grow your average viewership then you need to create a schedule and stick to it so you can become a part of their routine. Figure out what days or nights you can go live, and for at least an hour or two-stream those nights. I would recommend trying to also be consistent with the types of stream.
Variety streamers like myself have a MUCH MUCH harder time growing because people often only watch for 1 type of game, so when we switch they leave if they aren’t into the new game or there for the streamer. So pick a game or category, focus on building your niche in that and you should be good to go.

How To Get People Invested In Your Stream To Grow Your Average Viewers
Streaming is a story just like any other form of entertainment, whether it is Ludwigs rise to triumph against Jump King, or Justaminx on Love or Host. Streamers tell stories during a stream, or across multiple streams.
One of the reasons smaller streamers struggle to grow their average viewership is because they don’t connect a story to their stream, meaning viewers can’t get invested in it. So here is my question, What is the story you are going to invest viewers into? Are you climbing the ranks in a competitive game? Trying to lower your personal best in a speed run? This story also gives you a chance to build a channel narrative around you and your community, something I will go into more in the next tip actually.
The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

Been streaming just under two years now. Just passed 1k followers and hitting averages around 25-35. That grew from maybe 5 or 6 avid viewers who never missed a stream, they told their friends, brought people onto the discord ect. Never underestimate the power of someone in love with your content!

I've barely started streaming in twitch. Decided I wanted a fresh account so I made twitch, twitter, and this YT. The algorithm immediately hit me with these tips. Primo stuff, makes me excited to do it.

I’ve been watching 2-3 of these videos today and working on my stream right after. Lots of things I didn’t know as a beginner and was super happy I was able to do some things myself with the help of these videos. I had my first live stream last night with a face cam and was soooo nervous I cannot wait to stream again this weekend and get to that space where playing for an audience isn’t so nerve wracking. Maintain that 5 and eventually your average will pick up, it counts the last 30 days, so if you hold 5 for 30 days, you'll be at 5 average! Good luck!

Great advice again! I’ve been streaming for about 3 months. Got around 250 followers but only averaging about 10 viewers per stream. However they are hardcore chatters. Will continue to concentrate on fostering that sense of community

I started streaming about 2,5 months ago and I'm at 16 average viewers right now! I've been having such a blast with streaming so far, I never could have known before hand how much happiness it would bring me!
Thank you for the tips. The one that stuck the most with me is the narrative. In my case I'm back in gaming after a few years off and to be able to get better and show that the young ones arent the only good ones. I want to get good enough to play against them in competitions. Also in turn I want to show everyone that no matter how bad you are right now you can get to where you want to go if you set your mind to it.

I've been seriously pursuing streaming for just under 4 months now and I'm at 135 followers and 5.5 average viewers. I think the tip will help me the most from the video is fostering a very active chat and really engaging with people as much as possible. Already have affiliate, but the only reason I really wanted it was to have transcoding for viewers to be able to lower the quality of the stream and watch more easily if needed! Excited to keep growing the community and meeting new people. I'm sure I can be doing more to better the stream, but it's a slow process and not everyone likes to really give a critical opinion when asked for it, but your tips on being critical about your own content have been extremely helpful. Always looking for a way to improve the next stream.

4 months in and bouncing around 12-15 average viewers. Still got a long way to go, but making progress. This man speaks so much truth, the focus on community and consistency is so key. Be consistent in streaming, and be consistent in making friends on other channels (networking).

You can't fix mistakes if you keep making them because someone wanted to get a lot of views on their video so they make everything sound easy and simple. Everything you said makes perfect sense. I always thought getting affiliate as quickly as possible made perfect sense (I've helped several ppl round up followers in order to get them there) but what you said about building up a strong core makes perfect sense. Don't apologize for telling it like it is...

Been following your videos for some time! Started streaming during lockdown to make some social links (about five months). Thanks to your tips I've grown a bit averaging about 5 ish viewers and 160 followers. Plenty of room for improvement but it has been a fun journey thusfar. Welcome! I haven't made one yet but I would recommend just focusing on watching lighting tutorials and setting the webcam settings manually. You can look up 3 point lighting and/or budget lighting systems.

My problems are, when I play a new game or a game I've been playing but not one people want, they leave instead of watching me play the game. I have a character and emotions and chat with people, but they only want to watch if I'm playing a specific game. Ex: I played Minecraft on stream for the first time, and no one wanted to stay unless I switched to another game I play. I still do have around 4-10 viewers, and some joined my discord server.
Everyone struggles with this, you become known for one game and struggle to change, you just have to do your best to engage directly with chat and make it about you instead of the game.
Hype up changes and how excited you are to pick up a new one and play it with them as well. It just takes time.

@@StreamScheme yeah, I have been playing mainly stardew valley and I have about 3 viewers rn 1 being me, 1 is a mod, and the other is an actual viewer. My avg for affiliate isn't going up much cause of all the hours I've streamed in the last month lol
13 followers, 1.5 avg viewers, The reason I want affiliate is just for the stream quality option :D
Affiliates don't unlock stream quality, those are filtered down based on active users.
So Partners get it first, then affiliates with high average viewers, subs, etc, and then it slowly works its way all the way to the people who aren't affiliates.
I always stream off the peak time so I have always had quality options for my stream. Hope that helps!

@@StreamScheme thank you so much! Don't worry, I'm very careful about who I actually let talk on my stream. If its a multi-player game that includes voice chat I wait a few games to see if they're a cool person before telling them I stream or inviting them to my discord. :)
I've had the most problems with Among Us, unfortunately. People will occasionally see my server code and join with names spelling out some pretty terrible stuff. Itsbhard to moderate but I deal with it as quick as I can.
@@StreamScheme I have two questions if you don't mind answering them: do you have any videos or advice on how to choose which games to stream? Most games im very passionate about have a very small, nearly (if not completely) dead fan base and im scared that ill never actually succeed like I know I can because of that, if I choose to stream them often.
2. What are your thoughts on having donation goals before you're even affiliate? Is it a little pretentious? The dono i received was totally out of the blue, and it kind of inspired me to want to make a dono goal which would go towards improving the quality of my stream.
1. Yep, check the channel I have a video on game selection.
and 2. Don't monetise at all, focus on just creating good content. Money will come from great content.

I'm a filmmaker too and I realized I didn't really like watching streams because they didn't have enough story or interaction. I figured that I could make a story each stream that also bled into a bigger story every month and create a ton of interaction through a bunch of programs that let the viewer completely interact with my PC, like inverting my controls, or shining a bright light in my face so I can't see my monitor, or even shielding me from that stuff; that way the viewer can also become a character in the story. True interaction. It gets pretty crazy, but it's been working really well! So far I get anywhere from 5 to 9 viewers on average. Thanks for the tips it's been helping a lot!

Thank you very much for your tips! I started to stream about a month ago. Yesterday, I had 5.3 average viewers, with 10 viewers (max.) watching simultaneously. That was such an incredible feeling! I am struggling to attract new viewers during prime time though. That might be another valuable suggestion: if you stream at rather unusual times, you are easier to be found, and those viewers that found you then might come back during prime time. That seems to be working for me: the people which are coming by regularly initially discovered my channel when I was streaming on Saturday/Sunday morning. :)
As long as you maintain a solid schedule as well you won't suffer too much from this!
Hey Eljay! I had a question regarding the 2-week game period to be a variety streamer (in a good way) and wasn't sure if this was the video you mentioned that in. I typically stream Wizard101 but would like to be more "variety", so was wondering if streaming Wizard101 3 weeks a month, but then switching games for 1 week out of the month would be a good idea for growth? For now, start by adding 1 night a week where you play community games alongside your chat, that is usually how to transition into variety.
Saturday nights you do party games with everyone on stream, and then after a few nights like this you can go "This saturday we are doing something special! We are jumping into this new game!" and then saturdays play that new game consistently
It gets people used to the idea of swapping but won't hurt your analytics as much as just jumping around will.
You keep Wizard going, start new content, and eventually can have more freedom to switch it up.
just started streaming after starting UA-cam earlier this year and there's so much to learn! I'm enjoying it all so far, your content is crazy helpful too. A question for your consistency part is 1night a week too little or should i just expect slow growth?
It will be slow, not zero, but slow.... the only issue I see is the fact you need some velocity to bring in new viewers as older ones get busy or move on. I'd recommend trying to fit in 2 - 3 nights if possible, but if you can't just do what you can.

Made my twitch account about a month and a half ago. At 54 followers and usually around 2/3 average viewers depending on the content for the day. Your videos helped me start off so much!
Just got around to watching this video, I am currently an affiliate and thanks to your advice and videos my mindset has changed. At first I just wanted that affiliate status and was so focused on it but now I am focused on giving people who watch me or my content a great experience that makes them want to come back. currently my AVG viewership is at 3.4 average viewers, and am starting to get a following when people come into my stream from the search have gained a few followers just from them watching my content.

Love the vids! I started streaming just under 2 months ago and am at 85 followers - but I keep struggling with the direction to take with progression. I have hit affiliate and have seen average viewership of 8-10 over the last couple of weeks. It feels like every community I dabble in has gone great (have done chess & geoguessr), but my concern is that people are only interested in that type of content and may drop off when I stream something different. Any advice?
It’s about building a core community now, keep the content the same but bond with them, once you grow that connection so they are there for you. You’ll be able to do anything you want.
You can test the waters by 1 night a week doing a different category, or the second half of a stream even just a little bit of just chatting and chilling.
I have an avg of 4-5 viewers been streaming for about 8 months. Growth is coming slowly. My deployment put growth on hold for a while.

I started streaming a month ago. 40 followers now. Around 4 avg viewers but this normally include friends who pop by to chat. I have 2 to 3 regulars who pop by whenever they catch me live.

Hi man, love your videos. I have a question. Do you have any videos/suggestions about musicians streaming on twitch?
From what I have seen the most successful way for musicians to grow on Twitch is through meme/pop culture/video game music and uploading covers of songs to UA-cam and pushing people to watch live with small CTAs like "Record Live On Twitch At Twitch.tv/username"
Having redeemable points to ask for song requests as well, but generally the idea is to tap into a popular niche and build in it, similar to how those weaponsmith UA-camrs had been making videos for years but all blew up when they started making weapons and armour from games and anime.

I've been streaming about 3 months now and have an average of 2.3 viewers and 20 followers. I do art mostly so some of the game tips don't matter but I loved your title video and I think taking the narrative angle is good idea. I've been struggling with a schedual because of college and just took a week off because of all my piled up work. I've been streaming almost every day from the November 1st and tried out Minecraft, Terraria and Enter the Gungeon with a max of 1 stream reaching 2 viewers, but to be honest I wasnt entertaining and my streams were more like "come watch me do nothing" .. someone suggested I should stream warthunder and since I know german I think I'll to incorporate that into the stream, your videos helped me alot in seeing how I could improve, and this video taught me that a schedule isn't just "stream a random game at a set time", thanks!

i started streaming a month ago and just reached affiliate yesterday, but my biggest fear is my friends will stop tuning in eventually and the channel growth gets stagnant.
that's why ive been doing research and trying to improve the kind of storyteller/content creator that i want to be.
I've been binging your videos and i could say my last 3 streams after implementing your tips on the 10 minute recording, preplanning talk points and stream titles, ive felt more confident in my ability to stream and entertain in general, which shines through to the audience. my chat has been more active, and ive been able to retain more viewers from raids and to communicate with them.
(when i got my first raid i felt very overwhelmed by the increased viewership and completely shut down)

I've been streaming for 2 months next week - I am at 190 Followers but I only average 7-12 viewers - my views has been all over the place, I get a lot of new people but not a lot that stick around - I think its bad audio or just not great content, I am working tirelessly at it though I've put well over 150 hours into building the stream, I have a lot of dedicated people in my community and that helps a ton I am so thankful for them all. I am wanting to grow, streaming is my dream. I just wish I knew what I was doing wrong, idk, but watching your videos always helps and gives me things to think about to work on so THANK YOU so much for your videos.
It takes time my man, the hard work is crucial. Just focus on doing your best and seeing the positive steps you take forward. Never stop trying to improve, but always provide that consistency that makes others love your stream. Good luck!

I am hoping to buy a wave 3 on black Friday or Cyber Monday - that should help the sound. Greats tips! I'm still working on making streams feel like a cohesive story with a goal in mind and working towards that achievement. I fiind this is much easier to do with IRL content than with video games. Any thoughts?
To answer the question n the video I have been streaming for 7 months and average 15~20 viewers. I appreciate some of the tough love in this video as there a definitely pitfalls that look appealing but have tricky side effects, like relying on friends and family to help hit affiliate. Great video as always!

IRL content is easier for a story than video games, Gaming requires some sort of IRL stakes I think to add to the story. It's why I mentioned Ludwig and trying to beat Jumpking because he added punishments as the stakes. The story went on for 2 weeks of him trying to beat it.
The heroes journey requires challenges or else the hero is boring, I learned that in my latest Nuzlocke. We were destroying the Elite 4 with ease but it felt boring, so we added challenges, and more difficulty on the fly, I even threw a few Pokemon for content.

I didn't realize that the Ludwig challenge was over the course of two weeks. I have been thinking of story in terms of a single stream basis but perhaps expanding my viewpoint to a larger, more episodic perspective might work better for me!
Looking at it as a hero's journey makes a lot of sense! I agree that too easy, albeit relaxing, has no stakes, and stakes give rise to emotional investment. I've tried gifting subs as punishment for losing, but i have also gifted subs as a reward for beating hard bosses/levels in one go. That was received quite well!

Most likely a UA-cam channel, and make playlists than advertise it on reddit or in stream communities as copyright free while also adding it to the description so people are sure.

I work 4 shift and my working schedule changes every week. Sometimes even during the week.
Still managed to built a small community. Why should i stop streaming? Sure its much harder to reach your goals and there are different people watching at different times of the day and sometimes people only manage to hop in once every few weeks.
Tell us that we have to put in a lot of extra effort, that we have to walk that extra mile or sometimes even two extra miles but please dont tell people like me to just stop streaming!
