I love that you're actually honest about your experience at camp, I'm thinking about doing camp america next summer (I'm from the UK) and like EVERY person who's made a video about it is like "IT'S THE BEST THING EVER NO REGRETS EVERYTHING IS POSITIVE YAYAYAY!!!" and i'm hiiiiighly dubious about it lmao
This has actually inspired me to apply for camp counselor jobs. Next summer is my last summer before college and I want to spend it doing things out of my comfort zone and working at a camp has always been a thought in the back of my mind all throughout high school.
this is such a great idea, this upcoming summer will be my last, i will be 19 and i have no idea why being a camp counselor caught my interest when i know i’m extremely introverted. but i’ve always wanted to try working with kids so maybe i might go for it if i really have nothing better to do 😅
You perfectly sum up what being a camp counselor is like!! It's the hardest, most trying job but at the same time so magical and rewarding. This makes me so nostalgic :)
I'm applying to be a camp counsellor for 2018 and I am so excited but at the same time SO TERRIFIED BECAUSE I AM AN UGLY INTROVERT AT TIMES but can adapt very easily to situations, but the thought of not being able to have some alone time is daunting. I AM AMAZED YOU SURVIVED give me some more tips on how to survive please :) loved your video!
I was a camp counselor all summer for the first time ever too! But I worked at a day camp with 5 years olds. At times it was extremely tiring and stressful, but I truly did love it and I am so sad I only have 3 days left !
I also spent this summer as a camp counselor. I have been going to this camp since I moved to Ohio and I went through pretty much all the programs from camper to all the teen programs to being a counselor for the past two summers. I couldn't imagine doing anything else with my summers. I've made such great friends and I love more than anything when campers come back and they remember you from last year. My camp is a little different that yours. Campers only come one week at a time, being dropped off Sunday at 2 and picked up Friday at 5. We also have a day camp/ hybrid camp where kids get dropped off in the morning and get picked up in the afternoon on Monday and Tuesday and sleep over Wednesday and Thursday night. I'm glad you seemed to have a great time. I'll leave now so i don't talk about camp for 5 years. Love ya!
Duuuude! I did the same thing a few summers ago. But as a lifeguard! Worst summer of my life. I NEED my alone time. So it was really hard. I just wasn't in a healthy place in my life and I was stuck in the mountains with nonstop work. But it did show me I could test myself emotionally, physically, socially. And I met some cool people from all over the world. Anyways, I totally relate!
I just finished my fourth summer as a camp counsellor! I'm also an introvert and my biggest fear was also not getting alone time as well as dealing with how shy I am. At my camp we only get 1 22 hour period off a week (which the counsellors always use to spend as bonding time) and that's it, so it's challenging but I eventually got so used to it that it was weird to come home and have alone time. You should definitely go back to camp because I find every year gets better and easier :)
omg girl just learned you're vegan too - i must be so lucky! my camp had a vegan option for every single meal, and so much hummus in the salad bar haha
Your hair is bomb and thanks for sharing your experience as I am about to embark on an internship that I know will push me out of my comfort zone. So it's just nice to hear other people's take away from that. :)
I was a camp counselor at a summer camp for kids with muscular dystrophy. I was counseling 6-8 year old boys, there were about 15 of them within four rooms. What makes it worse is that another one of the councilors would tell the kids scary stories right before bed. I can probably count on one hand how many times I didn't have to sleep in or next to one of the kids beds because they were scared.
thanks for the tip on the coffee sounds like it'll be great for camping or hiking and even Superman had his Fortress of Solitude and I still love those eyes
I'm American and I applied for a program called Nyquest. I was able to work at an amazing camp in Canada. Nyquest places young adults in camps all over Canada just like Camp America. Look into it if you want to travel and work with kids.
Camp programs advertised to my University with costs starting at £350. For the amount of time you would be working not really getting payed I didn't think the cost would get much higher but it gets very expensive. As soon as you get accepted clock starts to when you need to hand over more money and if anything goes wrong they can kick you off the program without giving your money back.
Loved this video so much! I have a bunch of videos about working as a summer camp counsellor on my channel too, nothing makes me happier than talking/reading/hearing about camp experiences :)
I've been thinking about doing this for a while and I think you convinced me lol the only thing that I'm not so sure about is the food since I'm vegan myself (2 weeks!!! So happy!!!) anyways, I guess I could figure that out. I'm definitely checking the sites you recommended and who knows maybe I'll be a camp counselor next summer! Much love from Argentina Tiffany💕
Thank you for the honest review! I would consider having the same personality as you so it’s good to see an honest review because I’m supposed to go this summer!
Im from the uk nd have been following u since summerhood, worked at a camp for the first time this summer. Ive been travelling for a couple weeks and am flying over to the west coast tomorrow!! Will be in LA soon n would love to meet ya
This video made me want to try out being a camp counselor after I graduate! Also, if you do plan on returning or if you're ever in a similar sleeping situation, you should buy ear plugs and see if those work for you!
I just got an email for a job offer for this particular camp you're speaking about. There were some very negative reviews from staff/campers. But, watching this video helps me a bit lol to better know what that experience was like
Shweeet! :) Wish you all the best! This isn't meant to discourage you in any way, but I've always found the notion of long distance relationships really interesting! It's not something I've experienced yet and I'm extremely tactile, I think I'd struggle with it quite a bit.
This camp sounds exactly like Frenchwoods festival of the performing arts right? Having been there, I wouldn't recommend it because its hard work but I made some amazing friends.
So...I have an off-topic question. Now that it has been a while since you took your gap year are you happy that you took it? I am going into my senior year ENTIRELY unsure of where I want to go and what I want to do and thinking about doing a gap year but I am unsure of what I would do during the year to make it worth while
tiffanyferg | what?! That's very long, but I suppose here in Europe, we often also go on holiday as a family for several weeks, so to add 7 weeks of camp to that is a bit much. I would have hated being at camp for that long. I need my me-time, especially during summer holidays.
Thank you very much for the video. Did you find it by yourself right? How did you get your Visa? Do you think is better to find the camp with an agency?
I wonder what the hardest summer of my life was. The summer my parents divorced? The summer i got diagnosed with autism? The summer two older kids threatened to stab me? The summer my dad divorced again, meaning i would never see my stephsister or brother again? or that summer when they sold the house during the housing crisis, leaving us with 200k debt.

Did anyone get Fired from your camp? I'm really scared of getting fired this summer
So, it different kids during those 7 weeks? Surely, those kids don't have to go to summer camp for 7 weeks?
tiffanyferg | what?! That's very long, but I suppose here in Europe, we often also go on holiday as a family for several weeks, so to add 7 weeks of camp to that is a bit much. I would have hated being at camp for that long. I need my me-time, especially during summer holidays.
