CFL Montreal at Toronto - Wild Ending - October 29, 2010
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 сер 2024
- The Montreal Alouettes miss a game winning field goal and the Toronto Argos kick it out to deny the single point. The ball ends up with Montreal's kicker who (legally) kicks it back into the end-zone. A few scrambles later, Montreal recovers for the touchdown to win the game in bizarre, but legal fashion.

Just imagine how difficult a Madden CFL game would be...
+Joseph Watson Like a combination of Madden, AFL (remember when EA made one or two of those games?), and a rugby game. This is an interesting concept though, however it brings into play the 'halo' rule that is similar to what college football used to have that can be very subjective, especially when it's a whole five yards. I'll stick to American football, but little quirks like this can make Canadian football an interesting watch.
can we please have that, I'd buy it, and I'm American (go Stamps)
.......I wanna try this now
There really should be some kind of CFL mode in Madden.
Taylorover9001 - The Cando Railfan Uhhh...no.
While this is funny/confusing to Americans (self) because of the rules and subsequent strategy and tactics, what's REALLY hilarious is how it broke down. The intended "kickout" man was Prefontaine, but the big dude who had to jump to keep the ball in bounds knocked him over, so he hurried and had to punt the ball back out. What's incredible is that, of all the players he kicked it to, it was the opposing kicker.
what?
@@Solo-Road basically, in the CFL, if you miss a field goal, you can still get one point. The game was tied, so one point would've been enough to win.
The defending team would've had someone who was good at kicking kick the ball out, but the other defender knocked him down, so that defender made a considerably worse kick, which was right to the opposing kicker.
@@randomstuff508 That's also why they had to block the ball. If it went out of bounds a Rouge is still scored. Personally, I think that Duval was an idiot because if I had the ball, I'd kick it towards the side of the end zone to increase the chance of it sailing out of bounds. Even if nobody touches it and it never hits the ground, a Rouge would still be scored and we'd win.
It doesn't matter if you win by one point or five touchdowns, winning's winning! The Alouettes beat the Roughriders 28-27 to win the 97th Grey Cup and the Giants beat the Bills 20-19 to win Super Bowl XXV. All you need to win is one point more than your opponent. That's what makes the Rouge such an interesting game concept in the CFL.
I watched this game live. I can't believe it was 11 years ago. I must be getting old, eh?
I was confused as to why the kick-out went to about the 20, in the middle of the field. I didn't realize until your comment that the actual kicker had gotten dumped into the padding behind the end zone - it was actually a pretty good kick by a guy who wasn't supposed to have to kick it!
@@AvroBellow I'm an NFL fan trying to understand the single rule better, and this is the most helpful comment in trying to understand this play, which explains why I'm still really confused about the tactics used. My understanding is that the rouge can be scored off of a punt or missed FG attempt, as long as the path of the ball goes anywhere between the front of the endzone pylons. Furthermore, there is also no current requirement for the ball to actually touch the ground at any point in the endzone? Hence, it seems like the obvious play, assuming Montreal's punter has even 90% the leg of an NFL punter (and even with the 20-yard endzone), is to boot a 65-yard+ line drive punt out the back of the endzone with little to no chance of it being blocked. I'm confident most NFL punters would be able to park a line drive punt into the stands for an easy single, without any of the awesomeness seen in this video.
Even if Montreal's punter doesn't have the same leg, shouldn't he still be able to get it through the side of the endzone with only slightly more risk of a flight path that doesn't make the inside of the pylon? Hence, it seems like a monumental coaching screw up that Toronto even had a chance to prevent the winning single on this play. I have heard that there have been proposals to require singles to be "returnable" (basically require it to hit the ground of the endzone or exit the deadline below a player's height or reach). That would seem to make a lot of sense to ensure that we see exciting "kick out" plays like this game more frequently.
I do love the Canadian rules. If my understanding is correct, I would think that a lot of tied / OT games would end with the offence driving to the 50/55 and at least attempting to punt a single through the back or side of the endzone?
As an American I must say that Canadian football is significantly different than American football. Still looks like it's fun to watch, though.
I know very little about football, but my friends who do watch it tell me that they really like how teams only get three downs, since it discourages small running plays.
***** not just the three downs, but also a difference in the line of scrimmage: in the NFL, the defending side lines up 11 inches from the line of scrimmage, while it's a full yard in the CFL. Simply put, NFL rules go more in favor with big defense, while CFL favors nimble athletes (this is why you see the offensive side gambling on the final down more often in CFL - now if it's 3rd down on the goal line, the line of scrimmage is then pushed back one yard)
Another big difference in scrimmage is the motion at the snap: in the NFL, only one player on the offensive team is allowed to be in motion, and he cannot be moving toward the line of scrimmage while the ball is snapped. The motion player must also be behind the line of scrimmage; players on the line cannot be in motion.
In the CFL, all offensive backfield players, except the quarterback, may be in motion at the snap - players in motion may move in any direction as long as they are behind the line of scrimmage at the snap. In addition, the two players on the ends of the line of scrimmage (wide receivers more often than not) may also be in motion along the line. Many teams encourage this unlimited motion, as it can confuse the defense. It also provides receivers the advantage of a running start, timing their runs so they cross the line of scrimmage at speed when the ball is snapped, allowing them to get downfield faster than receivers in the NFL, allowing for comparatively longer throws in the same amount of time after the snap, or quicker throws for a given distance.
I'm really not sure why the fact that you're american has anything to do with this
Fun to play, fun to watch
@@thetravenousgamer CFL field of play is 110 yards instead of 100.
Holy crap... I'm gonna have to start watching CFL games. Those certainly look more interesting than what we've got down here...
Not to forgive the nfl at all for their current flag throwing contests, but these were highlights for a reason. On the whole the games aren't much better.
The game styles are much different. CFL has a more exciting game but NFL has the better athletes. Now we need a league that has both lol
@@alkozain7425 You sir, have made the best comment in this video
For 30 seconds there the CFL became Australian Rules Football. Funny to see in such a structured (less so than NFL) sport.
It is because of plays like this is the reason why I love the CFL!!! More exciting that American rules football, for sure!
Long Live The Rouge!!! GO CFL!!!
ChihuahuaboyDH people find it’s a stupid rule but I like it cause you basically have no choice to return the ball, what’s the point of kicking the ball when the other team won’t return it? Basically with this rule, you have no choice to return it and it’s too bad a bunch of people in Canada find it boring
God how unlucky were the Argos here to kick it STRAIGHT back to Duval?
I've just started watching the Canadian Football League and it's faster and a little more interesting than the National Football League
a lot more bombs thrown too.
What the fuck is going on? lmao
+APeX Diablo its 30-30. no time left on the clock. When a FG attempt is made, if it misses and lands in the endzone the ball is still live. It's not a dead ball. So Toronto has to kick it out or risk being tackled and losing from safety, or if Montreal gets to it first, its a TD. Toronto booted it out but the Montreal player caught the ball at the 20. Had the ball hit the ground first, it wouldve went to OT. It was just luck on Montreals part that they caught the ball at the 20. It was bizarre for me watching it too. And im from Toronto. Never seen anything like it before in the CFL. But the rule are rules. And they were followed perfectly. We also only get 3 down, unlike the NFL who gets 4. Makes games fun to watch and much more intense. And leads to plays like this. CFL is under rated. We have 10 teams only, so not many people watch it. I watch NFL football. And its the same shit. Never any interesting plays. CFL is full of weird interesting plays like this. Our BALLS are bigger and so are our end zones. This was a play late in the season, both trying to get into the playoffs, which also adds to the entertainment and panic to keep the ball live.
+APeX Diablo You wanna see a real fucked up way to win the Championship? Watch the video right after Montreal vs Saskatchewan 28-27. Saskatchewan shouldve won the game. They literally got fucked that day. Their pride and joy in Sask is their football team. They have nothing else. And havent won the grey cup in decades. Just when they thought they had won.......(go click and watch it)
+xUnleadedx Thanks for the explanation. Im def gonna check it out.
+xUnleadedx NFL is boring I agree, If you like weird plays and unpredictability you should get into American College Football. There have been a number of wacky endings, nearly 1 a week, this year already.
+xUnleadedx I just watched the video. They fucked themselves. I don't feel sorry for a team that makes a crucial mistake like that on the final play of the season which happened to be the most important play of the season. I paused the video and counted 13 players on the field. Sucks to suck I guess.
This is why I love Canadian Football :)
Sure it's rare but the fact they have this happen makes its one of the best sports in the world :)
Aussie Rules Football is my number 1, but Canadian football is a very close 2nd :)
Love both sports
What's your favorite CFL and NFL team?
This is the kind of thing that makes me love Canadian football.
These hidden camera shows get more and more sophisticated every year. I can't believe they were able to get all those people to participate in this prank, and on top of that try and make it look like a real football game. You crazy Canadians. You almost got me.

I can't lie. It would make kicking a field goal in the NFL more interesting.
Azure Kite That kind of play happens roughly six times a season in the CFL.
AntoG1986 Sounds cool, maybe I should watch some CFL games. I would follow the league, but I live in Brazil and all we get on tv is NFL (and even that there is only one channel that has nfl games and it's on the most expensive cable package)
Azure Kite It's WAY more exciting to watch then the NFL, that's for sure.
I can't get it any more on television here in the British Isles. However, you can watch CFL games in it's entirety on UA-cam.
AntoG1986 Idk about that, I really like the NFL, but I'll give some CFL games a try.

The only thing that would change in CFL is to have four downs instead of three
Things like this are why I have always LOVED the CFL! The game's just crazy fun to watch!!!
Americans watch Canadians put foot to ball 4 times in a single play - proceed to suggest this is not *foot* ball.
lol...I am thinking the same thing
+BollocksUtwat "foot" ball means nothing other than it differentiated the sport from sports played on horses. The name just carried over from England.
Sassy Stasner That medieval origin may be true but it certainly held no sway over people's sensibilities centuries later once mounted sports had waned and tradition carried the term forward through successive sports all which put a considerable amount of focus on kicking the ball which I would assume helped maintain the use of that term.
Besides, this is a sardonic comment not intended to be bound by the compromises of accurate etymology.
BollocksUtwat Medieval? It was the 1800's when sports like polo were played....
+Sassy Stasner So Cricket etc was considered football??.... yeah....
I'm an American who has never seen CFL before in my life, and I am thoroughly confused lol.
+elfroggo in canadian football, if the field goal misses the other team HAS to recover it. if the kick clears the endzone or if the defending team doesn't run it out, it is 1 point for the kicking team.
Montreal misses the field goal. the argos guy that recovers it has to get the ball out of the endzone whether he kicks it or runs it out. he drop kicks it and the allouettes recover it and kick it back in in hopes that the argos arent being able to get the ball back out. the argos screw it up and kick the live ball right to a montreal player. touchdown montreal.
Christ. I should start watching Canadian football, that sounds amazing.
Remember this was the last play of the game and the score was tied. That one point could win or lose the game. Very rare this kind of thing happens.
I didn't know any other Americans liked kimi
elfroggo it’s so that the other team has no choice to return it cause in NFL, kicking has become irrelevant except for field goals and PAT
CFL... better game, worse players.
Different players. Smaller, quicker to cover the much larger field. The extra DB confused QBs coming up here so even some of the most talented cant adjust. We've had Heisman winners up here, guys with devastating injuries all but written off by the NFL, come to the CFL and have their careers.rejuvenated with some even going BACK to the NFL, guys like Flutie and Garcia who had tremendous success in BOTH leagues, players overlooked in the NFL draft who start in the CFL then get T signed for big $ south of the border....I could go on. It's too simplistic to say 'worse players'. The Canadina content rule, sure, waters down the General talent level but it's OUR game and kids playing through HS and University ball need to know that they have the opportunity, should they be good enough, to play at a higher level. The CFL has been around for 105 years....having its ups and downs...but it is excellent football. Minimum ACTIVE player salaries are around 65k to around 400k...usually reserved for good QBs.
Ikr the defense is disgusting

This is one of the reasons why I love the C.F.L. Not very often this happens but when it does its amazing. If you kick the ball into the end zone the opposing team has to run the ball out or concede a single point and sometimes that one point can win or lose the game.

Debatable. I'll prefer Ottawa having a team again.
A missed field goal is a live ball. If you don’t get it out of the end zone the other team gets a point. If it’s a tie game on the last play it could end up as a loss for you if you don’t get it out. Kind of like conceding a safety worth one point off a kicking play.
Love the Canadian game. The kicking game is so important. I can't understand why some people choose to bash CFL football. American football and Canadian football are two different games, and should not be compared against each other.
Love this time of year because the NFL has made its final cuts and some of those players head north to bolster CFL clubs in the second half of the season. CFL games involving teams in the hunt become closer and more exciting.
At least in Canadian Football, you actually do KICK the ball!
And it's more "foot"ball than american game..
I tell YA, Canadians are some real pricks
Anto RetroGamer and there’s actually a return lol
As a proud American who's been watching the NFL for almost 20 years, I have no clue what the fuck just happened, but it was awesome.
This beats anything the NFL could offer
After last night's great Grey Cup game between Ottawa and Calgary, I almost forgot there was the boring NFL. I don't care about the nationalities associated with the sports. CFL is just a faster and more exciting game to watch.
The Grey Cup has a tradition of great games. There is a youtube video of the top 10 Grey Cups, all great games. The 2016 game, which was decided in overtime after a crazy comeback by Calgary that fell short in overtime, was considered the second best Grey Cup ever. I agree with that assessment.
What about Saskatchewan's "Thirteenth Man"? LOL

@@AvroBellow Bah Saskatchewan still celebrates that as a victory regardless lol. Its marked as such even in records in some places. Did make for an exciting ended though even if it was a weak way to beat them.

I have no idea how this league works, but it seems quite interesting. I might watch it a bit more. I will still always like American College Football the best though. But can someone please explain what happened here? Thanks!
I haven't watched any CFL but from what I understand if you can't take it out of the end zone you're allowed to kick it out. Which he did. And the guy then caught and I think he was still trying to kick the field goal and missed badly so they recovered in the end zone and won
c walker Thanks for clearing this up
Main thing is that canadian football never eliminated the open field kick like the NFL did.
So does that mean that if a team misses a 20-yard field goal but the ball goes over the end zone and into the stands they still get a point?
Yep, 1 point. It's called a Rouge.
My mind has seriously been blown right now.
RIP Dahrran Diedrick. He was the one that scored the touchdown.

And THIS is why I am an Alouettes fan! Go CFL!
A play that only occurs just twice per century...love Canadian football! WAY better than the No Fun League!!!
Bravo, Canadian Football League!
Lol it's horrible. If they had better players, maybe it would be watchable. But once any player gets to the superstar level of CFL, they go join the NFL and are usually average players in the NFL. Take the worst team in NFL and put them up against CFL's best team, the NFL team will annihilate any CFL team.
The reason I believe the CFL to be a better brand of football is for all of these reasons stated within: The unique scoring system - a) the rouge: a single point is scored when - 1) the ball goes into an opponent's end zone where the player who fields the ball takes a knee (then the ball is scrimmaged on the opponent's 35-yd. line, & 2) a single point's also scored on a missed field goal ( because either the ball went out of the end zone out of bounds) or the opposing team's player fielded the ball in their own end zone & took a knee. Also, in the circumstance of a missed FG, said player who fielded the ball in the end zone can choose to run it out in an attempt to reach the opponent's end zone, which results in 6 points for the receiving team. In an attempt of a missed convert after a touchdown, no point is scored unless the player who fielded the ball successfully runs it back to the opponent's end zone, which in said case results in a score of two points. A score of two points is also achieved if on a failed two-point conversion try after an offensive TD is scored, if the defense successfully returns a fumbled ball or an intercepted pass to the opposing team's end zone as well. Lastly, there's the unique play of kicking the ball out of the end zone back onto the field of play - which is usually done near the end of regulation time with the score tied (watch video again for a more detailed description & understanding of said play). I can't forget to mention another play or two that makes the CFL truly unique - no fair catch & the No Yards rule, where a receiver attempting to field the ball must be given a five-yard halo or cushion upon touching the ball. The No Yards penalty is five yards for a fielded bounced ball & fifteen yards for a ball caught in the air. The kicker & players lined up behind the kicker are exempt from the No Yards rule in that these players can run down the length of the field & try to recover the ball & advance it as far as they can, even into the opposing end zone!!! All of the above are what makes the CFL truly a great & exciting game to watch!!! To each his own as to which style of football is better - I say it's the CFL - hands down!!!
Like the CFL "Radically Canadian" 1990s TV ads proclaim: "CFL Football - Get in the game!!! Suck it up!!!"
Playing CFL rules and on a CFL size field? I would not be so sure about that.
+Tyron Ramsey Sure lets take the Defense of the Calgary Stampeders against the trash offence of you LA Rams

This play is 100% Canadian Football and I LOVE it.
To clarify my prior comment: In the CFL a kicked ball landing in the end zone is live unless it's a successful FG or it bounced off the uprights. The ball lands in the end zone here and if Toronto fails to get it out of the end zone, the Als score 1, unless an Als player falls on it (then it's a TD). The Argos succeeded the first time. The Als kicked it back in. Again the Argos must return it or the Als score either a single or (here) a TD. Here the "single possibility" was key due to the clock!

in the cfl if you dont get it out of your end zone the other team gets 1 point (a rouge)
no, he kicked it oot
YTspacecadet Canadian football retains the open-field kick as a legal play, allowing a kick to be taken from anywhere on the field. The open-field kick may be used as a desperation last play by the offence: realizing they are unable to go the length of the field, they advance part of the way and attempt a drop kick (a common play in rugby) trying to score a field goal, or recover the ball in the end zone for a touchdown (the end result of this very play)
Conversely, the defense, facing a last-second field goal attempt in a tie game (which is what went down in this game) or game they lead by one point, will often position its punter and place-kicker in the end zone. If the field goal is missed, they can punt the ball back into the field of play and not concede a single. Multiple such kicks may be attempted on the same play (which is exactly what happened here lol)
when the kicker misses a field goal, 1 point is awarded for getting the ball that far, but the other team can kick or run the ball out and no point is awarded, it's called a rouge. I've seen a missed field goal run all the way back for a touch down by the other team.
stubs96 so he could have run it out of the end zone to prevent the rouge but he didn't think he'd make it? Also, when the team that originally kicked, and missed the FG, kicked it back into the end zone, they could have won with a rouge had the ball gone out of the back of the end zone?
I laugh heartily at the people that don't get that there's different rules for basically the same game we play down here... They have a bigger field, a (slightly)bigger ball, goalposts at the front of the endzone, and an extra player on the field. Still a great sport to watch and follow.
I barely watch football, like maybe 1 game a year. I almost never catch a CFL game, probably once every couple years. I somehow watched this game live on TV and remember just losing my mind. What an ending.
This is why I love the CFL.... a "wild ending" in the NFL is basically made up of 4-yard running plays called back by holding penalties.
Wtf did I just watch? A missed FG, a guy punting it back, the kicker then punting it back again .. wtf?

For the peps not knowing what that was, In the Canadian Football League when the ball is kicked into the ends zone or threw its a point.Unless returned out of or kicked out.Its called a Rouge. The end zone in the CFL is 20 yeards the field is 110 long and 65 yards wide. The rouge is ment to force teams to atempt to run the ball out.
I love the CFL but I can say Im not a big fan of the rouge on a feild goal try.
I'm all for American football but that is freaking awesome. Imagine sequences like that in the NFL. If anything NFL is weirder because all the CFL does is not remove rules that bring it closer to its origins.
BollocksUtwat American football isn't related to European football whatsoever. There aren't origins TBH
They both come from rugby...
*There aren't origins TBH*
American football was heavily influenced by the Rugby played by McGill University and the future of American football is deeply entrenched in what came of that influence. The touchdown itself owes it origins to the 'try' as McGill used it and which Harvard enthusiastically took up before it was later standardized into the rules of the day for all American collegiate play.

I don't get it.
Montreal is going for 3 points to win the game, however if the football bounces then goes out of bounds in the end zone or Toronto goes down in the end zone, Montreal will get 1 point and win. So he kicks the ball and misses the field goal. The Toronto player blocks the ball from bouncing out, then kicks the ball out to avoid giving up the single. The Montreal player kicks it back in to the end zone, the Toronto player tries to kick it back out again, but misses, Montreal grabs the ball and goes down in the end zone. Touchdown Montreal.
I get it.
Cheers mate. Worked out for Montreal in the end so I guess the coach wasn't that angry with Duval for the splaffed kick!
This is another reason the CFL is such a great game! The Argos did not want to give the Als a single, so they kick the ball out of the end zone. Montreal then kicks it back into the end zone, & Toronto attempts to kick it out of the end zone once more, but are thwarted & the Als recover the ball in the end zone for a TD. How exciting is that?! You don't see this kind of play in the NFL - another reason the CFL is a superior league!
Bravo, Canadian Football League!
In the NFL that would be no good by NFL Standards i need to learn the there rules i am lost.
Thank you!! I thought I was the only one. LOL
Octavio Garcia If a opposing team can't get the ball out of their own endzone off a return, the opposing team gets 1 point. This is rare because normally they would kneel, or run it out but it was 30-30 at the end of the game so Toronto had to kick it out.
The hell was that?
+Doctor Spencer it was one game before playoffs. 30-30. No time left. The ball missed the FG which means the ball is still live. If toronto kneels, they lose. If they try to run it out of the HUGE endzone and get tackled, they lose. There was no room to run it out and take a knee at the 1 yrd line. So the only option left.... is to kick it out. The Montreal player caught the ball at the 20 yard line (which fucked us) and kicked it back into the endzone. They recovered the ball and got the touchdown. Montreal got lucky when they caught the ball at the 20 yard line. Had the ball hit the ground, it wouldve went to OT. Both teams were trying for a top playoff spot. So they were doing everything they could to win in the last play. And it worked. In the NFL, a missed FG is a dead ball. Not in the CFL.
This is stupid. Seriously. This league is like the bizarro league of American football.
Seeing how the CFL is older...You have that backwards
Why is it stupid?
I love the way Canadians say "out." :)
I love that fact that the CFL haters have spent more time commenting on this than anyone else. This truly does prove that the CFL is sports entertainment at its finest because you never know what is going to happen. Besides...why do you have to compare? They're two different games that came from the same roots - be a fan of both!
Leave Football to America.
+Check Mate NFL is full off wife beaters and drug addicts. Fuck outta here. lol
+Check Mate Canada is in America, ignorant
+Nik Ababua Canada is in the Americas, but America is taken to mean the United States by pretty much everyone
+Anon ymous Canada and the U.S. are a part of North America. Some say Mexico is too. America is a term used to refer to the U.S.
What would American Football look like with out the "Downs" system they took from the Canadian game.
Get rid of the rouge. It makes the league look like a joke.
+mark224 Its kind of dumb for punts but its good on kickoffs. If the team wants the yards that come with a touchback they essentially have to pay for them. Then again 36 yard field goals are pretty automatic these days so without the rouge they would have just done that.
+mark224 You must be kidding. Football has been the systematic dismissal of uncertainty from a game of uncertainty (rugby). A little bit of chaos keeps it interesting.
BollocksUtwat We fundamentally disagree so I don't know how productive this discussion will be haha. I think Rugby is really dumb because of how chaotic it is. But to each their own.
mark224 A little bit of chaos goes a long way. Besides I'll never understand disliking the game that spawned the game you love.
There is no football without rugby. "Rugby Football".
BollocksUtwat That's a good point. I guess it's the same reason I have no interest in cricket but enjoy watching baseball. I grew up with these sports and I don't really have an interest in the sports that they came from.
The goal posts are on the goal line, so if they miss, the ball is not out of play. Because the scores were level with no time left, Toronto couldn't take a knee as they would lose, so they had to kick it out.
Wow. That is how football should be played. I have NEVER seen a more exciting play in American football, INCLUDING the 15 lateral play in NCAA Division III a couple years back. This kicking play was simply awesome. Football comes from rugby, and this is a totally rugby-esque play.
I'm American(Southern) and I love the CFL. It's a different game and that's what I love about it.
Essentially from my understanding of the rules, in the CFL you can't take a knee in the endzone, if you do the other team receives 1 point, if they gave up the one point they would lose 31-30, thus they punted it out of the endzone (as there were too many around to run it out). The other team therefore didn't think they would be able to run it into the endzone to win, so instead of doing a lateral play they decided just to punt it back to the other team
In the CFL you can Punt whenever you want
I had no idea what was just going on there until i read the comments lol
@kirstenjvt- the answer to your question is C); to extend, OT would be played out similarly to NCAA rules.
The thing is had Montreal's missed FG gone out the back of the endzone (NOT the sides) they would be given one point (!).
Toronto batted the ball back to prevent this, but if they grounded the ball they would have given up a safety (because Toronto intentionally kept the ball in their endzone). This is why they kicked it back.
Thanks. I watched it again and it was actually exciting.
A similar scenario happened this season (2014) between Ottawa and Saskatchewan.
@MYSTOP4 this is CFL what montreal tried to do was get 3 points or kick it thru the end zone for a single but montreal missed so toronto picked it up but montreal was there so they booted it out of the endzone then montreal kicked it back in then montreal recovered it in the end zone for a touch down of 6 points to win the game
"whoooo had da foooozzzzzzzzzzzballlllllllllllll!?!?!?!?!?!??" in a ryan seacrest fainting voice LMAO XD CLASSIC
why do people compare NFL to CFL?? I'm Canadian and I watch NFL games every sunday but I also like how the CFL is different and brings another type of show. Sure most NFL players are better athletes but those who play in the CFL have a real passion for what they do because they aren't paid that much and still keep playing.
i loved hearing them say out
@ingy489 in the cfl if you miss a field goal you get a point if it goes through the endzone or if the returner kneels in the endzone. So the returner had to kick it out otherwise montreal would have won 31-30 but montreal kicked it back, toronto touched it and montreal recovered in the endzone for a td.
The American mind cannot comprehend this
Hello, Arden! I've been to Canada several times. I vacationed there & watched a lot of live NHL games including some CFL games & I love Canada too! I'm happy to hear you decided to move there. Was it difficult to obtain Canadian citizenship? The reason I ask is I'm also interested in wanting to obtain citizenship into Canada. How do I go about doing that? Canada has a lot of excellent fast-food establishments. I'll bet it feels good to eat poutine on a regular basis!
Bravo, Canada!
Three parts, really: 1) in Canadian football, what Americans consider a touchback is known as a single, worth one point. 2) Any kick, including a missed field goal, is live ball and can be returned just like a kickoff or punt. 3) In Canadian football, you can kick anywhere, any time.
Montreal was assured of a win unless Toronto brought the ball out. Toronto chose to kick it back out instead of running. Montreal chose to punt back into the end zone for the single. Toronto muffed, Montreal won.
In Canadian football, you get 1 point (a single) if you are able to kick the ball out the back of the endzone, or if you kick it into the endzone and prevent the returning team from running it out. Therefore, once Montreal missed the FG, Toronto had to kick it back out to keep the score at 30-30, or they would have lost 30-31. Montreal then kicked it back in (a spontaneous kick is allowed in the CFL) trying to get the single again, and Toronto flubbed the recovery, allowing Montreal TD.
Darren Diedrick(Nebraska) the 9th player to touch the ball on that play----scored the winning touchdown!
With the score tied and no time on the clock Montreal tried and missed a field goal.
The returner prevented the ball from going out the back and saved a game winning point but he still had to run of kick the ball out of the end zone or they would have given up a single point, He knew he would not be able to run it out so he kicked it out
I was at this game. Its funny because I was thinking about this outcome, but i knew it was extremely rare to actually see happen.
hey to all NFL fans i cant remember what team he went to but after this lockout in the NFL look out for Andy Fantuz he was in the CFL then was drafted into the NFL
I came here becus the NFL is in offseason. Instantly this video reminded me why I haven't watch CFL becus I don't understand the rules.
In Canadian football, any ball downed in the end zone or rolling out the back (such as a touchback or missed field goal) is a single point for the kicking team. Thus, Toronto puts their kicker and punter in the end zone to kick it back out to keep from downing it there. The Montreal player that catches it kicks it back in again to get the single. The last guy again tried to kick it out, but didn't hit it good. End zones are 20 yards deeper than the goal posts, so missed FGs are often live.
