Rochberg's story is so interesting. He was a serial composer, strictly adamant like many composers at the time that serialism was the only future of art music to progress towards. Then very tragically his son died. After that, he couldn't bring himself to compose any more music that was so detached from emotion. His works after that point are filled with emotion.
reminds me of the look of brahms op.119 .Carefully constructed and voice leading .I wish the score to the violin concerto was here and the first remarkable symphony!
