    Such beautiful books ! I have very few lovely editions, but I tend to collect old editions I find in markets, book boxes, second hand shops. My oldest is from 1848. I like seing the name of the previous owner, the date (before I was born, I'm almost 59), the old notes, it makes me feel like I'm related in some way to the previous owner, like a time travel. The folio editions are sooooo lovely !

      Lovely! I like old editions, too. I used to collect more old editions as a teenager than I do now, but it's always lovely to find old books.

    Book eye candy.❤ Lady Susan, what a naughty girl. I have a slipcased Heritage Press edition of Wuthering Heights, several Franklin and Easton Press books and the most beautiful Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac printed in the late 19th century with the royal salamander in gold on the cover.

    Very nice. My spouse and I were subscribers to Folio for a half dozen years or so and even visited their office when we made our trip to the UK in the late 80's. I recall the kind gent there (gently) corrected my pronunciation of Catriona.
    The Folio editions we have of Jane Austen and Ray Chandler sets are prized possessions and have been read multiple times. Never collected ALL the Dickens works but I think we have all the Hardy's. I did read ATOTC last year in a Folio and started OM Friend (green version). I think I'll go back to that after finishing Lonesome Dove.
    Don't know why we stopped with Folio, but perhaps we had too many books and were just getting older? The Bronte set IS quite lovely and a twinge of acquisition-avarice passed through, but the Brontes and I don't get on that well. Perhaps for my son, who is steadily working through Anne's work AND managed to complete Wuthering Heights (and even Clarissa)?
    Fine books are INDEED wonderful things.

    Love to see all these beautiful editions, I specially love the illustrations in the Trollope's books and Jane Eyre! I have some beautiful editions of Jane Austen's books and always want to collect more😊

    Thank you so much for your videos. I have only just found them and am really enjoying catching up! I loved your beautiful additions, as I also love to search charity shops for Folio additions. Today, I was browsing in the Oxfam Bookshop in Farnham and spotted copies of the other Trollope Folio copies you are looking for. I never usually comment on blogs but felt it was too much of a coincidence not to! I know they have an online shop.
    Thanks again for all the new authors I am discovering.

    Hi Katie, thank you for sharing this video of your lovely book editions. I also have two of the Trollope Folio editions. I have The Warden (chocolate brown cover) and Framley Parsonage ((pale lime green cover) both very 70s colours! Interestingly both in the off white slip covers. Also there must have been at least one year where more than one volume was released as my copy of the Warden is 1976, and Framley Parsonage 1978. Good luck for completing the set. I was fortunate to find my copies in Book Relief in Bideford only a few doors from where I work. So I shall be keeping my eyes open for more.

      Oh interesting, so maybe it's The Last Chronicle that has the wrong slip case. I'll keep an eye out for The Warden and Framley Parsonage - thanks for telling me the colours!

    I love Folio Society, I have all of Gaskell's novels, Black Beauty and Hans Christian Anderson Fairytales. Hearing you being so excited by the Trollope is great, imagining you just in a 2nd hand bookshop and the sound you made when you found it 😃.

    How lovely Katie. The Folio Society books are stunning. With Anthony Trollope being my favorite Victorian author, my prized possession is the complete Barsetshire Chronicles Oxford Classics hardcover editions. I got them on eBay in absolutely perfect condition. They also have the Barsetshire maps too😊. Thank you so much for sharing your special editions.

    BEAUTIFUL! I imagine that you and Nick are never at a loss for what to give each other! All mine are Jane Austen-related:
    The 3-volume box set of Jane Austen "In Her Own Hand" (her handwriting from "Volume The First" &c.)
    "The Illustrated Letters of Jane Austen" selected & Introduced by Penelope Hughes-Hallett
    "The History of England by Jane Austen: A Facsimile" (Again--her handwriting! Also, this was from Chawton House via AbeBooks).
    "Persuasion: The Complete Novel, Featuring the Characters' Letters and Papers, Written and Folded by Hand" curated by Barbara Heller. (She has a P&P edition, too). 🙂

    This was lovely, Katie! I can’t believe you found so many in charity shops - in such great condition, too! Those last two Trollope books may have been my favorites. I love those colors and would love to see the whole series! 📚

    What a beautiful collection of books!! I don't have any Folio Society editions ... yet. Your collection might inspire me to start looking for some. Currently the majority of the higher end editions in my collection are leather bound Easton Press editions.
    I would like to get more into reading classics. Lately I've been reading a lot of newer books set in Victorian or similar times, such as The Secrets of Hartwood Hall, which I really enjoyed. I'm especially fond of Gothic ghost stories. At the moment I'm in the midst of reading The Black Feathers by Rebecca Netley.

      If you like a gothic ghost story, I recommend The Old Nurse's Story by Elizabeth Gaskell.

    Wow, such a spectacular collection. The Franklin Library in Pennsylvania does produce some wonderful editions also. I have one of David Copperfield and although the illustrations are rather pedestrian, it's still nice to have. I also have The Folio Society edition of Framley Parsonage which another poster correctly said is a lime green color. I didn't even realize it was a Folio Society edition. The condition is very poor so I bought it dirt cheap. I was wondering since you obviously have a huge book collection -- do you have any first editions of any books.

    • @katiejlumsden
      @katiejlumsden  2 місяці тому

      I have a couple of Dickens first editions (volume, not serialised parts). I haven't actually shown them in a video for ages because they're still at my parents' house with my childhood books!

    The Lady Susan manuscript edition is deeply desirable just on account of Jane Austen's handwriting. I've always suspected that she was very proud of it, and rightly so. Anyway, yes I do have quite a few pretty editions, but I also have an ugly book, clothbound in an unpleasant purplish-grey. It's a very early Ward Lock edition of A Study In Scarlet with all the Strand Magazine illustrations, plates and ornamental headwords for each chapter. Quite rare and valuable, but I wouldn't part with it for all the tea in China.

    • @katiejlumsden
      @katiejlumsden  2 місяці тому

      Apparently a lot of purple/red books fade very much over time, so presumably it was a nicer colour once upon a time. But what a lovely thing to have!
