I thinknon thing you might have missed in reviewing this, is: yes, you are only getting the light right around one spot next to the LED, but - you can move around on it a bit. And for most people they will probably move a mot in it, during the treatment time. Or you could set timers and deliberately move after a minute. So, I believe the spot-concentrstion may not be that much of a problem...also, if you are using it regularly, you probably won't end up lying in exactly the same spot, so it will average out over several uses anyway.

Hi Alex, thanks for the video! Just to clarify - you said if one is "pressed hard up against the mat (3.45) they effectively would get no light". What does that mean? How would the skin being pressed up against the light see no absorption? The idea of the mat / pod is to lie down hard up against it as you demonstrated, or am I missing something here?
How does this compare to the MitoRedLight Mito POD? They look similar, except the MitoPod has more LED chips, more NIR, and the 810 nm. What do you think? I'm trying to decide between the two.

Hey there! I'm very late to the conversation, and hoping you see this comment. THANK YOU for your extensive research, explaining the various forms of light, what they heal, and so thoroughly researching the tech and specs! Your product spreadsheet is fantastic (I work in Accounting - so I appreciate a solid dataset with multiple variables!). As I was in an accident and need healing for multiple injuries (bicycle vs car) , I've been researching the therapy pods. I think I've settled on the Megelin Red and NIR therapy pod as the best to heal me up as ~70% of the lights are NIR. The power, chips, bulb count all seem in-line, too. What are your thoughts? And if you have a referral code, I'm happy to give you credit for the purchase, Thanks so much!!
PS I've totally been to New Zealand twice! 2019 and 2023. Wonderful people, and fantastic outdoor adventures - hiking, biking, kayaking, boating, and paddle boarding. Absolutely stunning flora!!
I'm glad you like the spreadsheet. I'm sorry to hear about the accident, and I hope you find some relief from RLT. I have yet to review that product, so I can't comment. I personally prefer panels due to their power output. NIR is essential for deeper penetration. Thus, 70 % of NIR looks promising. If you are torn between this and a panel, check this out:ua-cam.com/video/x--wMmcspfw/v-deo.htmlsi=6OSy1eQWfcpnXl6j
Hi Alex, mito has now made a pod. Can you tell me just based off the descriptions without having to test the mito pod which pod is better? (Hooga vs mito)? Thank you!
Alex, great video! You mentioned the light intensity is virtually none when pressed up against the light. Is that the same with panels? I have a Platinum BioMax 450. Sometimes I like to almost lay it up against my back or my legs when sore, it is pleasantly warm too. But would you say the intensity may decrease up against the skin and perhaps better to be 3-4 inches away? Thank you very much with your reviews, I bought mine a couple months back based on your reviews. 😊
On the website, the irradiance of the pod on contact is 40mw, biomax 450 is 160 mW at 6”, normally it is higher for panels, you can see the website for reference. It’s best to be further way for panels as the irradiance may be too high if you are too close.
@@Jemolian thank you!! That makes sense. I have used red light beds at commercial facilities and laying on my back, the lights are very close. I will keep the 450 at minimum 6 inches … my plan is to eventually hook up another one to it! Thank you again.
Thank you :) Oh I mean it was virtually none in the areas that were not over or very close to the LEDs. You are still getting light over the LEDs. So the same would be true for the panels - the spaces between the LED's will not have much light coverage if you are pressed up agaisnt it. However the panels do have larger 'bulbs' and are often closely spaced, plus they are a lot more powerful than a mat. Also - there is a school of thought saying that the light photons disperse when they hit the body, so it may not be an issue anyway.
Hi Alex great video, I was wondering what is your opinion on Led belts? I am looking something easy to use for pain m for my husband, he became paraplegic 13 years ago, and due to no movement from waist down, he has crazy peripheral neuropathy pains. Also by using upper body all the time, he gets some shoulder pains , etc… i was thinking that belt i could just wrap on certain area , just wanted to know if it’s powerful enough, to heal joints, etc…. I see Hooga has one . Is it any good, or should I just get him small panel, for now, cause the big one, we are not ready for it yet… he is in bed, ..thank you and have a blessed day🙏❤️
Hey. So my experience is very limited - just this review - ua-cam.com/video/wHAvcwG7RLQ/v-deo.html and this product - ua-cam.com/video/aUt_MQRP9uo/v-deo.html - the latter is something my wife has used for her lower back. I'm sorry to hear about your husbands condition, the poor guy :( The issue with the belts is that they are quite under powered compared to panels. BUT on the flip side, you can use them right up against the body. You may want to ask or search our FB group - facebook.com/groups/lighttherapyinsiders - for more on neuropathy (it's not something I'm familiar with sorry). As for what product to go for, well I'm a little stumped here. A large mat - like the Hooga or MitoRed light options - could be easier to use. But there is the concern that it is underpowered and you don't get the results you are expecting. Otherwise you go for a small panel, but then you have to move it around to get full body coverage. Maybe put up a post in our FB group and see if anyone else has experience with this.
Alex, thank you for all your red light therapy videos. They are very informative. I purchased the BioMax 900 based on your recommendation a couple of years ago and got 5% off using your discount code. I noticed that Hooga also sells the infrared PEMF mat. Have you look into PEMF as an alternate therapy device? It would be great if you can do a review on the infrared PEMF therapy mat. Thanks!
Hey! No i haven't looked into PEMF. I know some people in our FB group talk about - facebook.com/groups/lighttherapyinsiders - you may want to jump in there and do a search?
Hi Alex, many thanks for all your hard work doing these really informative reviews. One question, when you did this Hooga POD review about 6 months ago I think Hooga was literally in the process of updating the model, which they have now done. Each LED is tri chipped (1 x 660nm / 2 x 850nm) which is exactly what you was wishing for in your review. Now the updated POD is available (I receive my new Hooga POD next week) could you kindly do a review on it and also compare it the the MitoPOD? many thanks... Kevin.
I am new to your channel and so glad to have found you! I'm in the market for RLT pod and wondering if you have compared the Hooga vs Megelin brand? Or is there another pod in the same price range you could recomend? Thank you!
Hey, no I haven't reviewed Megelin sorry. I will need to check it out. Welcome to the channel by the way. You may want to ask in our FB group - facebook.com/groups/lighttherapyinsiders
So grateful for this information. JuvaPod is more than twice the price, but has more lights (4300 as opposed to 1800 in the Hooga) and 50% 650 and 50% 850. will you be reviewing that pod at some point?
I bought this. It's not too bad positioning yourself so that your head is covered. Is it "wonderful" having it covering your face? No, but certainly tolerable for 15 minutes. I use a very soft cloth and some mild spray cleaner after every use.
Light intensity does weaken as you move away from the source - this is known as the inverse square law. As for laterally moving away from the LED then yes we also see a drop off in power as the LED is designed to emit light outwards, not laterally.
Hi Alex, do you have a video on the therapeutic values for the various wavelengths such as 610, 630, 650 etc. and why someone would choose one over others. Ditto for the NIR wavelengths, such as 810, 830, and up to 950? Thank you! Also the Red Light Therapy Shopping tool is AMAZING! I absolutely love it. I've yet to buy a panel. Am continuing to research.
Thanks for the awesome review! I'm curious if you'd recommend this for muscle recovery. In the portion of the video where discuss power testing, you say that the light is only powerful for 3-4mm. Does that mean that these lights wouldn't penetrate all the way to the muscle? If so, a panel would be better for muscle recovery?
I noticed the Hooga pod product listing has a few discrepancies on its website. One spot says 61" and another says 63" long. Also, in one spot it says 3 in 1 chip technology (1RL:2NIR) (Each light bead has 3 chips, 2 near infrared to 1 red for superior power output and even light coverage) but later it states the device has a 4RL:1NIR ratio (Clinically proven wavelengths of 660nm & 850nm 4:1 ratio), which is quite different. It also advertises as an FDA listed class 2 device but at the bottom of the website has this disclaimer: The statements on this website have not been evaluated by the FDA (U.S. Food & Drug Administration). Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Our products are low-risk, general wellness / fitness products that do not require FDA clearance, in accordance with the “General Wellness: Policy on Low Risk Devices” draft released January 20, 2015.
My concern after getting one is that the plastic is going to get minor scratching deflecting light. Does that seem like it could be a concern with you experience
Hmm it's not something I would be concerned about. I twill be hard to scratch the plastic, and even if you do as the body is so close to the LEDs it's not going to matter much.
The sauna blanket is designed to heat/make you sweat. Have a read of this - www.lighttherapyinsiders.com/light-therapy-101-buyers-guide/#light-therapy-vs-infrared-sauna
Hi Alex! I'm new to red light therapy and my gym has something called the "Cocoon Deluxe Fitness Pod". It's like a little personal sauna pod you lie down in that uses dry heat, infrared heat, and vibrates like a massage chair! There are a bunch of red light bulbs down the middle in there and I have no idea if they're just for decoration. There isn't a whole bunch of info on it online and there are so many different versions of the pod.. the most I could find on the wavelengths was a single sentence: "Ambient Red Chromo Light Therapy improves cellular function generated by wavelengths (630-850 nm)". Not sure how much I believe it though. I really enjoyed your video on the Beauty Angel and I was wondering if you could also review it but it might be hard to find. If it really works I'd be over the moon!
This is the million dollar question! It''s very tricky to answer. Watch this - ua-cam.com/video/dynWCpql2ew/v-deo.html and read this - www.lighttherapyinsiders.com/how-to-use-red-light-therapy-101/
Great review. I have been researching and researching. Have an upcoming ankle replacement in January and I am hoping this will help with the recovery so I can get my active life back, along with all the other benefits. I am going to order the XL today. Are there specific goggles or glasses one should use?
Also, so wanted to know about the effect of wearing clothes. You mentioned keeping it in the living room, so I think it should be fine? From my own research, clothes DO make a difference, though, especially with shorter wavelengths. I'm sure you've done videos on this. I'll look through them, but (THANKFULLY) You've done a lot of research and made a lot of videos for me to use and peruse.
It’s like the love & hate combo - I live in a cold climate and it’s hard for me to visualise myself standing naked in front of a panel for 20mins, so a pod like this could be awesome BUT - WHAT ABOUT THE PHTALATES from the heated plastic 😱 this could be an endocrine disaster to an already tough problem to solve globally in the environment, so why add to it at home torturing the body even more ?? Danny Jones did an awesome podcast episode on the topic and plastics are the culprit behind why everyone is „genderless” all of a sudden. Love your work, thanks for the honesty, Blessings 🙏
Alex, how often would you use this weekly? 20 minutes every other day? Also, Does the Pulse mode have different benefits than just the highest mode (P5) on the pod? How would you use it, if it were your every day red light? Thanks!
This video has me curious about the MitoPod, because it has 66% near infrared and 33% red light. It seems like he would prefer that blanket to the Hooga Pod.
Hey, I use the Hopoo Color device - ua-cam.com/video/AQArU9qLi8g/v-deo.html - there is an app, I need to try that (it requires some handy man DIY construction to get it fully setup) so I will test that and share a review in time.
Alex can you review a commercial red light therapy unit by INVISA RED unit which is a LASER not LED and has FDA approval for weight loss ! I would like to know if this would be a good investment for my clinic !!!
Hey, I still need to test the belt. Join my Facebook group. The odds are that someone in that group has purchased the Hooga belt and can give you their feedback. facebook.com/groups/lighttherapyinsiders
Hi Alex. I have the opportunity to buy the used flexbeam at a really good price. I'll be using mostly for my lower back, but also my shoulder and knee. Does it really work, and is it worth $375 Canadian? Will the flexbeam penetrate the skin in order to treat muscle, joints and ligaments? Should I save my money and buy the kineon?
Did I hear you right? There is virtually no benefit from the light you are laying directly on? 3:44 in the video. A few weeks ago I purchased the LOVTRAVEL (looks almost identical to this) 6 ft, 200W mat (not a sleeping bag like this) - should I be wearing it as a blanket instead? Liked and subscribed - dig the actual measurements and reference to studies and producers. You are producing unique content in this field.
What I am referring to is the 'dead spots' in between the LEDs - where no light is being emitted. BUT I have recently come across an argument that the light photons 'disperse' when they hit the body. Thera re also systematic benefits of RLT - more on this here - ua-cam.com/video/Omhs8yenHZY/v-deo.html I'm not familiar with the Lovtravel device - but I had a quick look on the net and yeah it does seem like a similar product. You can lay on it or wrap your body it in - either way is fine :) And thanks for the support!!
Please make a review of Mito Light from Europe, and how does it stand against the leaders from US like Mito Red light ..Many Europeans wondering if Mito Light is real deal …
Working on it! I have updated the LTI shopping tool with my specs for the mitoHacker 4.0 which you can see here products.lighttherapyinsiders.com/ the review will be out in a few weeks. Also check this out - ua-cam.com/video/R3ZaAMZTSPw/v-deo.html
Of the 1800 LED's, there are 945 on the back section and 855 on the front section. Eeach led chip has 1 Red and 2 Near Infrared so you have double the near Infrared than Red.
One reason I am considering a smaller mat, is as part of my illness, I have light sensitivity. I can no longer tolerate sitting in front of my panel, even with my eyes covered as the light penetrates. I am also in bed a lot. I can't afford, nor do I have space for a fancy stand that goes over the bed, so the portability of a mat is really helpful. I can see why cheaper mats might be an option for people who have mobility issues or spend a lot of time in bed etc if they can't afford a panel with an over the bed stand. Some red light has got to be better than none!
I researched this company, it looks like they use 660 nm "strength" which is the most effect. A lot of the masks and other products out there use a weaker strength. I think this company might be legit.

I hope at some point, I will be able to do a comparison video with these products. There are just so many new products!
Thank you for the review. What is the best option for chronic fatigue syndrome?
Hey, oh I'm not sure about that sorry.
Hi, Alex, no problem. Thank you so much for responding.
Thank you!
Mito pod seems better
@@LightTherapyInsidersThank you! That makes sense. Love your videos, I have learned so much! 😊✅
I'm sorry to hear about your husbands condition, the poor guy :(
The issue with the belts is that they are quite under powered compared to panels.
I’m about to buy the 2 panel 900’s from biomax with the horizontal frame; would you still recommend it? Any real results?
Hi Alex, many thanks for all your hard work doing these really informative reviews. One question, when you did this Hooga POD review about 6 months ago I think Hooga was literally in the process of updating the model, which they have now done. Each LED is tri chipped (1 x 660nm / 2 x 850nm) which is exactly what you was wishing for in your review. Now the updated POD is available (I receive my new Hooga POD next week) could you kindly do a review on it and also compare it the the MitoPOD? many thanks... Kevin.
I hope to, just so many RLT devices to review. Glad they updated to the triple chip!
Can you test the infraheal red light mat?
Maybe in the future! Too many projects lined up...
I can add it to my list.
I bought this. It's not too bad positioning yourself so that your head is covered. Is it "wonderful" having it covering your face? No, but certainly tolerable for 15 minutes. I use a very soft cloth and some mild spray cleaner after every use.
Thanks for the feedback.
Why do you think the power falls off so quickly with small distances? amA few mm to 1 seems strangely ineffective.
Light intensity does weaken as you move away from the source - this is known as the inverse square law. As for laterally moving away from the LED then yes we also see a drop off in power as the LED is designed to emit light outwards, not laterally.
Can u please review the Megelin mat?
Looking into this company for a review towards the end of the year.
Check out my wavelength cheat sheets here - www.lighttherapyinsiders.com/blog/ Thanks for your kind words :)
I think a panel is much more powerful and would help with muscle recover better.
Hooga verified the following: All our PODs have tri chip which emits two NIR wavelengths to one Red wavelengths.
The POD itself is 63'' long.
Great, Thanks for sharing!
This vs the Mito Red Light Therapy - MitoPOD… which is the better one?? 🤔
I have not reviewed the Mitopod; thus, I can't do a fair comparison.
How is this different from the Hooga infrared sauna blanket? That I’ve already purchased
Hey, yeah I have never heard of this sorry.
FINALLLLLYYYYY BOOOOOMMMMM 🎉🎉🎉🎉
lol yes :D
Hi I am from India only hooga is available that too at a high cost what options do I have ?? I need deep tissue
Try Alibaba. ua-cam.com/video/zJOHngd7PUI/v-deo.html
Curious what is more effective red light blanket wrap or the panels?
panels are more powerful.
How do you figure out the timing? How long to do sessions?
This is the million dollar question! It''s very tricky to answer.
Watch this - ua-cam.com/video/dynWCpql2ew/v-deo.html
and read this - www.lighttherapyinsiders.com/how-to-use-red-light-therapy-101/
Great review. I have been researching and researching. Have an upcoming ankle replacement in January and I am hoping this will help with the recovery so I can get my active life back, along with all the other benefits. I am going to order the XL today. Are there specific goggles or glasses one should use?
Hey! Typically RLT products come included with protection eyewear, but it's not a big issue with this pod as you're not looking at the lights :)
I have been waitingggggg
=D
I’m sold on red light therapy! I have the hookah panel and I like the idea I can get the whole body and relax a little!
It is very relaxing :)
great review! thank you!!
My pleasure!
Can you test the therasage infrared sauna?
Hey, yeah I might do. I just did an interview with them :)
Hi Alex! So what is better -hooga mat with 1800 led lights or mito with 2320 led lights?
I haven't used the mito. But it does have more LEDs so that is a win.
Check this out - ua-cam.com/video/jAiG0mlpy98/v-deo.html
It’s like the love & hate combo - I live in a cold climate and it’s hard for me to visualise myself standing naked in front of a panel for 20mins, so a pod like this could be awesome BUT -
WHAT ABOUT THE PHTALATES from the heated plastic 😱 this could be an endocrine disaster to an already tough problem to solve globally in the environment, so why add to it at home torturing the body even more ??
Danny Jones did an awesome podcast episode on the topic and plastics are the culprit behind why everyone is „genderless” all of a sudden.
Love your work, thanks for the honesty, Blessings 🙏
Glad you liked the video, and good luck with your decision!
Can you review the Mito Red Light Therapy - MitoPOD
Working on it.
Alex, how often would you use this weekly? 20 minutes every other day? Also, Does the Pulse mode have different benefits than just the highest mode (P5) on the pod? How would you use it, if it were your every day red light? Thanks!
Yeah I do 4-5 sessions a week (10-15mins). Pulsing - see this - ua-cam.com/video/DVBOHQbq3OU/v-deo.html
This video has me curious about the MitoPod, because it has 66% near infrared and 33% red light. It seems like he would prefer that blanket to the Hooga Pod.
Hey, yeah pros and cons of each I guess
Hey Alex, are there any affordable spectrometers that are good enough?
Hey, I use the Hopoo Color device - ua-cam.com/video/AQArU9qLi8g/v-deo.html - there is an app, I need to try that (it requires some handy man DIY construction to get it fully setup) so I will test that and share a review in time.
Alex can you review a commercial red light therapy unit by INVISA RED unit which is a LASER not LED and has FDA approval for weight loss ! I would like to know if this would be a good investment for my clinic !!!
Hey I'll look into it.
Should I apply this review to their belt as well?
Hey, I still need to test the belt. Join my Facebook group. The odds are that someone in that group has purchased the Hooga belt and can give you their feedback.

Hey that does sound like a good price and the Flexbeam is super popular. I just haven't tested it so I don't know how well it performs.
How to try these expensive things before wasting a lot of money? 😅 cannot find a clinic in my area
Have you tried a spa or a message therapist?
Did it help you with hair growth? That's what I want to use it for too..
Check this out - ua-cam.com/video/cf1LzWLWuqI/v-deo.html
Thank you so much.
My pleasure :)
Would love to see it compared to the Mito product. It has a higher NIR to red light ratio and more lights.
Glad you are happy with it and also glad I could help.
I like the low EMF
A video highlighting low EMF panels is coming out within the next few weeks.
It looks like it would be delicious feeling lol
Lol, yes, it's not the word I would have used but it is rather pleasant!
Also check this out -

I ordered it from your review and just received it and only half of the lights work! Very irritated!
Hey, half of the lights are Near infrared, which are invisible. Have a look at this - ua-cam.com/video/XTIE8VPFheM/v-deo.html
People get into those public tanning beds. At least these pods are for personnel use and don’t cause cancer! 😊
Hows EMF level?
Low, most pads are.
Are there goggles included
no
Yes I just received mine they added something like sleep mask for eyes
Great review 👍
Glad you liked it
Why would you want to get into the blanked naked? Doesn’t 660nm and 850nm go straight through clothing?
Not very well. Check this out - ua-cam.com/video/jAiG0mlpy98/v-deo.html
Cool product!
It is!
Doesnt the PLASTIC which is TOXIC get absorbed in the skin?
Through skin contact? I'm not sure tbh. The skin is a pretty good barrier, but I don't know enough about this topic to comment sorry.
Thx Thank you 🙏
Would you rather have an HG300 for $140 or a HG200 for $120? First time buyer. Getting the face and belly is most important. What say you?
Of the 1800 LED's, there are 945 on the back section and 855 on the front section. Eeach led chip has 1 Red and 2 Near Infrared so you have double the near Infrared than Red.
Thanks for that info!
Awesome 🇦🇶
I am glad you liked the review!
Celluma makes a body panel as well as a face panel with plenty IR and Red led
Hey yeah I need to test them
COSTS
The price is stated in the video. However, I suggest checking out their website for the current price. aferg.co/hooga-rlt (Code ALEX) 10% OFF
One reason I am considering a smaller mat, is as part of my illness, I have light sensitivity.
Oh I'm sorry to hear this but yes a mat in this instance would be perfect for you!
I researched this company, it looks like they use 660 nm "strength" which is the most effect. A lot of the masks and other products out there use a weaker strength. I think this company might be legit.
Hooga is a very reputable company.
Thanks for sharing this. I've been looking at a similar product... Great video... Could be better if you did the review.. Shirtless 😜
BIOMAX panels seem more powerful
Yes, the BioMax panel is a lot more powerful.
@@LightTherapyInsidersmany thanks
Not supposed to use on a bed only a hard surface. If I laid naked next to my husband in this we wouldn’t be getting much light therapy😂
Valid point and so true!!!
Expensive
Many options on the market for RLT might be more in line with your budget.
Wouldn't the glossy plastic surface stick to your skin, especially in humid climates 🫠
The people who use it faithfully love this product. For me, I sweat too much and would stick.
