This is an insane value for what you’re getting. I mean this car practically has all the latest and greatest BMW tech, the engine from the M4, and has a 6 speed manual. If you can get over the looks this is a very good car. I personally think this is a very handsome car.
i wish it wasnt so heavy
You need glasses
agreed. took me 2 seconds to come around on the looks, especially after seeing it in person. very aggressive and well proportioned.
$90k USD in Australia, so much more expensive than the outgoing model
in black the look is fine.
Really been loving these living with type videos recently
Completely agree on merging! How people try to merge at 40MPH boggles my mind
I find myself pleasantly surprised when the person in front of me is actually merging at speed
Welcome to America. That, hogging the left lane, and braking whenever an oncoming car passes are my biggest pet peeves.
This commute is crazy. Michigan roads are on life support. lets get the people who dont wanna drive off the streets! fund public transportation. Great vid topher jr.
I went on 8 mile road.
It’s like going back to the 1910’s with how bumpy the road is. Felt like I was driving on cobblestone. It’s BAD.
Reducing car dependency hasn’t been any more important than ever before.
Not saying we should ban cars, but we definitely need to start funding public transport and infrastructure providing for alternative methods of transport, like in Europe.
@@faheemabbas3965 usa has more open rural land vs population. best to compare it to russia
I was there for a few weeks. Cant say it’s my favorite state
@@claus1225 what do people drive in that state?
"I don't understand why people can't merge at highway speeds...". So so true!!!!
Just found your channel and subscribed! Love your type of reviews very calm and super engaging. Keep up the good work dude!
Boy it offers a lot - but man, a brand new $65k car with dashboard rattles. Never change BMW, never change.
I also hate folks that can’t merge properly. Most cars today have plenty of pep yet they merge at 60 mph into 80 mph traffic.
Commuting is amazingly easy and comfortable in this car. Very practical for a vehicle at this caliber. Just love it!
Hmm! Even though I don’t practice any specific religion, I respect them all, as fellow man has to be given respect, to be respected.
bro its 90 thousand dollars. What do you mean by "practical for a vehicle at this caliber" A toyota camry is practical at commuting.
@@alexwhiteman2628 bro, it starts at $62. After all said and done , about $70 out the door. It’s a lot of money, but you get a lot too ( ie 450+ hp, rear wheel dr, with BMW world class suspension engineering). Plus you get back seats and damn comfortable. Anything else at this level of performance is only for the purpose of driving on track, plus costs a lot more. Look at the whole picture my dude. Btw, I also have a Camry and it’s the best commuter ever :)
@@arymonem americans are so poor they drive toyota
manual gearshift are nuclear physique for 95% of americans
@TopherDrives thoughts about the usefulness of Live Cockpit Pro and HUD for commuter use? 👍
I daily drive my G87 6MT 50 miles round trip every day from CT to NY. Lots and lots of traffic.
The only cocern i have is about the rattle you mentioned , thats the kind of issue that will drive me crazy .
Sad that they don’t put the rev counter in the center of the dash (and make it a digital rendering of a round tachometer). My i4 e40 has iDrive 8 which is okay for an EV where you only need the speedometer and it’s in the heads-up display. Vocal commands are okay to change HVAC settings but the response time is too laggy to conveniently flip between radio channels.
LPT: The mic button is more reliable than saying "hey bmw"
19:00 That's because many of those stickers on that Subaru subtract 5hp. 😆
How was the road noise at highway speed. I had an older STI and couldn’t talk to passengers w/o raising voice for them to hear me. On the fence between m240i
Nice video. I have to agree, that after driving in Germany for five years, where people obey the rules of the road, people here don’t have a clue. Nice thing about driving a car with a lot of HP you can usually out run the idiots. Be safe. 😎
I would love to join you in one of these drives
I find drivers in the US quite good actually. Come try driving in Australia for a few days. People go out of their way to try and cut you off or drive into you.
The interior looks amazing. I'm just curious about the crotch bump on the front of the seat. Does it get in the way when your shifting?
Did you have any issues with the manual gearbox and the bucket seats with the carbon cod-piece? A lot of reviews point this out as an issue.
12:48 As a new learning driver this type of situation is what scares me the most. What am I supposed to do if there's nowhere to merge? There's literally like 50 feet of room to think lmao
Drive it in Atlanta next. See if you can manage not to beat somebody’s ass.
You think merging is an issue there? Come to South Florida. These people will test your patience at every level imaginable.
Yep I was thinking come to Philly. Those roads he’s driving look like country roads compared to what we’ve got up in the northeast. South Florida I know is notoriously bad.
@@bluegryp I have family living in Ringoes, NJ 15 mins from the PA border. Potholes and ballsy drivers. See PA at least has cops that do their job. Its just the people paying the fines without sweating coz they filthy rich. Here the police force is spread thin.
jesus christ that iDrive took about 6 years to think... i thought this was 2023 LOL
Giddy up Batman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🥶
Thanks for the review 👍
I wonder if BMW produces M2 convertible?
Please bting back e90 level steering.
How well is the interior put together, my 230i the trunk shelf is rattling and I am getting a rattle from a seal by the driver window
that seems to be a 2 series problem, my 2022 3 series has none of the rattling anywhere
what apple watch band is that?
this is not just a car, this is a men's big toy
This guy sounds like a news reporter.
You made a good point about how tense people are now on the roads. I live in the DFW metroplex and you never know when someone’s going to pull out a gun if they don’t like the way you drive. I live just by the Allen outlet mall where a gunman massacred people shopping.
Is this the G87?
Driving manners is also same in india too. people drive like crazy sometimes.
I have the M2 6MT and the only annoying thing is how jerky 1st/2nd are. Maybe I just suck at driving a stick but the other manual cars I've driven before were definitely not as bad
If you’re in sport mode it will be more jerky. Try comfort transmission instead 👍
@@Tibialstone7 Just took a bit of time to get used to it. Comfort is definitely easier.
@@Kyle-ci4cx That's good to hear. Any other good/bad observations on the car ownership so far? One thing I was slightly worried about was the MPG - but I guess you don't get an M car for the fuel economy haha
@@Tibialstone7 Highway commuting in comfort gives me 26mpg. Really not bad for what kind of car it is.
Only thing I don’t like is the weight. Before the M2 I had a 2.0 MKV Supra, and throwing that 3200 lbs car around some tight turns was a dream. M2 can handle it, no pun intended, but you can most definitely feel the weight.
Can't hear the dashboard.
13:00 Illegal for Semi's to be in the left lane usually. The real fault here is whoever designed this trash highway where they gave you 100 feet to merge.. we have plenty of those where I am and people come flying in the right lane making it annoying to merge because we have to get over and then they slam on their brakes.
Good driving, except the manual changing gears, lol.
Anyways, I started to watch all your videos right now and i like them. Thanks for sharing.
It looks like a matchbox car.
"Does that say ligma? No it can't... it can't say ligma."
ligma balls
Man I just wish it looked nice
interesting to hear about the steering feedback. is it different/worse than the g80? I personally liked the g80 xdrive feel and thought it was definitely more sporty than the competition from RS and AMG.
edit: couldn't agree more about the lack of road manners nowadays. It's the result of the current self esteem/entitlement movement that breeds narcissism. people are less and less considerate and it shows on the road unfortunately. stay safe out there!
I have an f90 comp mxdrive. Xdrive Ms feel dead in the steering compared to their rwd counterparts.
The front looks weird to me
Why is everyone driving at the same speed in all lanes 😢
Don’t defend idrive 8, just don’t.
Whyyyyyy do they make the steering feel like a disconnected video game.. Oh my soul... it hurts
ok 👍
yeah
It's a 2 series.
Love your videos Chris but a lot of those merging problems you’re having is mostly on you. Especially the second one with the Cadillac, you’re supposed to yield to him and slow to let him pass, then file in behind him
Glad you love the videos! It's more about nobody paying attention. If I were to brake to allow that Cadillac to come past me that introduces the risk of the person behind me on their phone to cause something much worse.
Sure there's technically a "wrong" and a "right" way to merge, but it should just flow naturally without having to dodge people or nearly get killed trying to merge behind someone going 30mph into 75mph traffic.
Im so glad the interior looks good because the exterior is just hideous
-a BMW fan
19:35 Ich wäre komplett überfordert, weil jeder fährt wie er will. Es gibt doch in Amerika auch ein Rechtsfahrtgebot und trotzdem benutzt jeder die Spur wie er gerade lustig ist.
This car looks like it came out of overly skilled asian car enthusiasts hands who mastered cardboard car designs.
I don't get this. Why's it called Topherdrives if he never drives? 😂
Also you say entry level M like the 3 and 4. Nothing entry level about an M and you realize the M3 was the M
a m2 for 72k wouweee i wish it was 72k here lollll😅
@Christopher-Jayden eeh are you sure this comment was ment for me? also the prophet could not read🙄
People that don't merge to let others on the highway, when it is possible, are completely selfish assholes that increase danger for everyone involved. Drives me absolutely nuts too
*Cough* Buy a CT4 Blackwing or Integra Type S *cough cough*
You drive a bmw they expect aggressive lane change without signals.
The front end looks so bad.
How anyone can support these companies who make absolutely hideous vehicles and charge a monthly fee for features already installed on it and every other vehicle like heated seats is beyond me.
It looks like BMW messed up both transmissions with the M2. The automatic is surprisingly laggy and manual is the usual tall rubbery ones that BMW makes. Another point for the last gen.
where have you seen/heard the auto is super laggy? i havent driven one yet but ive heard the zf8 really wakes up the engine on this one
the auto isn't laggy...?
@ShaiyanHossain See the Zygrene review. A couple of other ones mentioned it too.
what crap are you talking about the auto is best on the market. you broke failed american dream toyota cvt drivers need to stop commenting
@@milesfathi Most reviews say the ZF8 is awesome and not laggy at all. Stop nitpicking for a car you would never afford anyway.
this is my dream car though I prefer the ZF8HP because my back hurts from 20 years of driving stick. might grab a CPO model eventually.
It looks bad tho, especially from the rear.
It's too bad this thing got to be so big and heavy. Great that BMW still offers manual transmissions. Sure wish they could revert back to their roots...the 2002. Of course, this car is totally wasted as a commuter.
Big? It's tiny.
american cars are so big
Great advice, yea.. "quit your job" 🧔♂️

Your comment on the stealing is pretty silly, you make it sound like it’s a Jeep…
at 12:45 you're asking a semi to brake speed so you can continue on at your speed. Your thinking is off. You have a brake and accelerator pedal, use it to merge. It's not their job to merge you, it's your job to use your resources to merge with traffic. The big problem was the Burgundy F150 being driven like a Grandma so everyone got held back at way below merging speed
it's more about not being selfish and moving over to let people merge
@@pau6545 I’d argue it’s selfish to expect everyone to move over for you. Especially because the law is written in a way that supports my view and not yours. Merging traffic must merge with established traffic flow
specs - yes, visual - no
Hard pass. The m2 is no longer the compact light car. It weighs as heavy as a Mustang GT.
6-speed manual the way god intended! none of the lazy DCT nonsense
watch some bozo get mad over a comment
The auto is torque converter....
Heh
Looking at the F87 and then this....BMW ruined the M2.
This video confirms that BMW is losing their original fanbase in order to attract newer and younger crowd. A light steering is only good for people who never driven analog manual and doesn’t care about steering feel. The entire experience is nerfed. Who cares if it had 800HP like a Tesla, the soul of a pure driving experience is gone.
The kids that race around the mall for the Instagrams care
This really makes you miss the times when BMW actualy build nice looking cars that don´t rival an AZTEK or Fiat Multipla in uglyness
why is it so fugly
It looks hideous that colour is rank as well
Whoever designed that digital dashboard layout, should never be allowed to do any industrial design. If they were going for the poorest, most not intuitive method of delivering information, they have certainly succeeded. You have a computer behind it and this is what you come up with? With no way to change to some civilized layout? What a fail. But I guess this is what you get from Playstation generation of "designers".
The market for this car is practically nonexistent. Any adult will be tired of this car after a month. This car is made for nepo babies to destroy on a track over the weekend and youtube reviewers to fawn over, so they keep getting review cars. The high performance your paying for will never be used on the road. You'll just be stuck listing to loud engine noise all the time and a bone shattering rough ride all the time.
Did I mention the backseats are unusable and the trunk will not even fit a large suitcase. Everybody thinks these electronic gauge clusters are so great, but no you have to do everything thru them. No AC buttons or heated seat buttons everything is thru these screens , so when it freezes or goes out, you're screwed. These screens are in cheap cars like KIAs, so you're not getting some premium experience, they are just easy to activate options already installed on the car. You may have options like, heated seats actually build into the car but unless you pay to have them activated , it will not show up on the screen.
There is nothing premium about the screens, they just look like any other generic screen.
Some folks like loud engine noise. Some folks like feeling the road. Some folks keep the a/c at 70 and don't think about it; worry about something that might happen, like a screen freezing, sounds like a horrible way to live. Regarding the backseats, some folks don't need to carry passengers; or, some folks only have small kids or a dog. As for the trunk, it fits suitcases large enough for two adults to travel for a week and change. For some, it's about the drive; if you have the opportunity, drive it. You might like it...
Agree.
bone shattering ride? its not a honda civic thats aweful riding
You would never buy this since you don't have the money pal.... So why complain about it?
BMW butchered an amazing car by hiring a drunk designer...shame really.
Ugly car but great driving
This car is heavy, ugly and made in Mexico. No interest to me. For 100k CAD i expect it to be made in Germany at least. I like your channel though. The videos are a good watch.
This is one of the ugliest things BMW has designed.
Its over for manual.. Dual clutch more fun moe engaging
needed some aggressive driving. vid was boring
🥸GOOD REVIEW. Tip:Mergers have all the responsibility to merge. It’s called traffic laws. It’s not called Courtesy driving laws.
