Before you comment: 1. No I do not like hell levels. I just use Slaughterhouse as an example cuz it's well known and it nailed its atmosphere as mentioned in the video. 2. Each chapter is separate from each other. So in a way, comparing Slaughterhouse to Tidal Wave, Slaughterhouse will be more memorable imo. But in the grand scheme of things, hell levels are overdone anyway, so Tidal Wave is definitely a fresh breath of air. 3. I barely mentioned the gameplay in the video. And all the stuff I mentioned about the gameplay are purely speculation as the level wasn't out when this video was made. 4. Bad Top 1 =/= Bad Level. Overall as a brief conclusion, TW could've been executed better, that's what I don't like about it as a Top 1. Otherwise, good level. 5. Yes I acknowledged the like to dislike ratio is bad, stop commenting about it since you're not adding anything to the criticism. 6. Wish I could reply to all the new constructive criticism comments, but honestly the bad ones drown them out I don't really care about replying anymore. Stuff like "lmao x amount of dislikes on this video what a joke" and "gd player when no hell level as top 1" gets old really quick. Original Comment: To make things more clear, Tidal Wave is a great level for a solo project, it has a good idea for a theme and tried to stand out from all the hell levels we got recently. Respect to OniLink for improving in creating immensely. And to those who are saying I just want more hell levels, I would say no. In fact it's the opposite, I just want more levels that stand out like Ascension to Heaven, Heliopolis and many more that might release in the future. And for final clarifications, for Top 1s, not just levels in general, **TOP 1s**, I would prefer something intense and stands out. Levels like Flamewall, Heliopolis, Ascension to Heaven does those well. Has really intense gameplay, great theming and definitely stands out, and both are the opposite ends of the gameplay spectrum (one is an insane timing level, one is an XL fast paced level). Tidal Wave for sure stands out, though it lacks in executing the theming and decoration, as well as the gameplay as compared to upcoming top 1s like those mentioned above. Therefore, it doesn't fit that well as a top 1 personally. Edit: Damn y'all really took this video too seriously, it's just an opinion video, geez. I think that it's silly to expect that a top 1 level needs to be edgy and hell themed. I welcome Tidal Wave as a much much needed breath of fresh air from red and grey levels that have been choking the top 1 scene for a while.

i love how chill tidal wave is for its top 1 position. basically proves that a level doesnt need to be some edgy hell themed bs with the most hellish song possible (couhg cough slaughterhouse). we need more top 1s that are unique in their own way like tidal wave. obviously it still has to fit the top 1 spot well, but that doesnt automatically mean hell theme and edginess
I love the fact that this top 1 isn’t so edgy, top 1s should be a challenge but they can still be fun an upbeat they don’t gotta be depressing and intense

Has Tunnel of Despair gotten decent feedback ? The only one I've seen was from Ninjadan who said they had an incredibly fun time botting the level I do agree with the comment btw, the reputation Zoink has gotten because of Avernus is so unfair and blown out of proportion, it's insane

@@AustynL It's not bad, it's greatly unpolished, the waves at the bottom of the first wave section look completely ass, while some other parts in the level look gorgeous. Some transitions are beyond lazy while others are ok. Once again, an unpolished level in my opinion.
Top 1 is not about the nature of the level or how it looks, it is quite literally about it’s difficulty. Yes it might not be a good top 1 but it will be a top 1 anyway just because of how hard it is no matter if it is more or less intimidating than Slaughterhouse.
for me, tidal wave doesnt look as intimidating, even though it is harder than slaughterhouse, and i just had that small grudge on it, its just my own opinion certain players who has no concept of difficulty still might think slaughterhouse is harder cuz of how intense and intimidating it is, since that's majority of the community's population if you think about it, which this video is directed towards (the entire community) but yeah, valid take on this, thanks for the feedback
@@EHMM Nothing has to do anything. Not using levels difficulty to add to the theme is a huge waste of opportunity, so a top 1 that fully ignores its difficulty is really disappointing to see. (And using difficultly and giant difficulty range is a unique art tool that GD has, so to me Tidal Wave being popular is quite insulting to GD creativity)

In my opinion, top 1 levels should be about gameplay and depending on how hard it is should be its placement. Not saying repetitive gameplay like straight fly, tight jumps, and precise wave movements should be in a top 1. Also, this is my opinion.
He agrees with that, he's just saying that thematically it doesn't work as a level of this difficulty and that the decoration is horrendously unoptimized (as beautiful as parts of it may be)

To be honest, a few things I have to agree with there. Slaughterhouse and Acheron definitely look a lot more intimidating, but I think it’s a bit nice to have a calming and slightly more sight-readable top 1 and it gives us a little break from some overused top 1 styles. I think it is very overdecorated tho, and I personally don’t think it will be a great top 1 as well, but a top 1 is still a top 1. But it will prob still be bad cuz Zoink will superbuff it again lol

Personally, I think it is my favorite level ngl. I watch it all the time on youtube and I love the music. The reason it should be top 1 is because those waves look really hard, and the buffed version got rated im pretty sure.
I think many players are at a point where we can take anything that’s objectively not a bad level and not hell themed to be a top 1. Tidal Wave to me looks kinda unpolished still, but the overall intensity, its build up from sunrise to sunset, and XL length make it seem to me like one of the most intimidating challenges the game has ever seen. It’s kinda like an even better Sonic Wave.
if most of the top 25 have hell/eerie-themed levels then tidal wave would be a PERFECT top 1 imo, bc with all of the garbage we currently have this level could make the game even better due to its ideas with gameplay and decoration (which is unusual but in a good way)
The Apocalyptic Trilogy, Grief and Every End are already complete and Trick is gonna start verifying TAT very soon, I don't know when the respective verifiers will start the other two tho
I think decoration-wise, ocular miracle is such an insanely good representation of an ideal top-1 kind of aesthetic. hell theme has had the crown for years. i love the artificial ascent/ocular miracle stuff.
I think this level has some originality, I mean, we've never seen a top 1 with happy music and a beach theme, I honestly like the level, that's if the decoration is weak, but at least it's a decoration that doesn't bother like the one in slaughterhouse 😺

I agree with the "slaughterhouse or tidal wave" one, cuz ur completely right slaughterhouse is so intense and you can see the difficulty of it while tidal wave is more like a really nice level with good deco but its top 1
some of the points u made are the exact reason why i and many more think this is an amazing top 1, ever since cataclysm which was top 1 when i started playing years later almost every top 1 still follows this trend of the same edgy and hellish theme with a few exceptions which are in my opinion the best top 1s we have ever had (zodiac for example), what i hope tidal wave and the levels that come after it will achieve is finally diversify the top levels in terms of themes (and gameplay too hopefully)

I'm not in any position to judge or speculate how levels would interact with the game/community as a whole, but I will say that the level itself is a welcome change of scene from the all too well known "dark, hell, or intimidating" theming that's often used and prioritized in the hardest levels circulating throughout the game's lifespan. Although, I'd have to agree with your statement on how the level doesn't quite live up to some player's expectations and standards (i.e. the reused backgrounds). Nevertheless, the noticeable imperfections could simply be chalked up as an excuse due to the level being a solo project, which is indeed is the case. In the end, I would say that opinions generally have to be taken with a grain of salt, as an individual's personal beliefs on a certain matter holds wildly varying levels of scrutiny.

I think in my opinion we have seen so MANY HELL LEVEL TOP 1 that now we are not used to normal levels now Edit: Onilink did this as a solo? My goodness such a great level but i should say this: Lets hope there will be more top 1's like this.

There is no reason why I a top 1 should have to be hell themed. There are far more approaches you can have to making a top 1 than just “intimidating lava atmosphere”.
I personally like it, I feel it would be an ok top 1, but it doesn’t have the top 1 feeling, however the gameplay looks really fun, despite probably being better if slightly nerfed, it’s also xL so it’s way more accessible, I also like how it looks, it’s really charming but also is kinda messy which is my main issue, I still really like it tho Good video
Honestly, it does have top 1 feeling. In fact, there IS no top 1 feeling, it was just ruined by a whole series of hell/dark levels, so it looks like a light level wouldnt be a top 1.
I somewhat agree, it’s more of there’s something about it that makes it not feel right as a top 1, similar to acheron for me I do think light levels can feel good as top 1s, I think ascension to heaven and eod, or limbo would make great top 1s Though limbo and eod never got that cuz of other levels lol, but they weren’t really advertised as top 1 anyways
Here's my personal opinion on why I like Tidal Wave. 1. Defining a Top 1 In my personal opinion Top 1's are hard while also being appealing and standing out from the rest. For example, Slaughterhouse is hard while standing out in the crowd and being a well known top 1 level. For Bloodbath, it was very hard and it stood out because it was absolute leagues above anything else at the time. The only problem that I have with the 2 levels above this are the fact that they are based off of a certain theme. It's so overdone that I'm just tired of it and Tidal Wave is difficulty, stands out and it uses it's on unique theme. Another level that I really love is Kocmoc which is purple instead of red. I'm actually sad that this level isn't as popular as something like Bloodlust. To sum it up, in my opinion a Top 1 has to be hard and it has to stand out from the rest. 2. My opinion on Zonk Personally, I don't like it when Zoink verifies a buffed version of a level that was meant to be in the top 20 for example. The level feels to hard and it isn't that fun to play. In my opinion, if somebody like Trick had verified the level instead then it would be a much better level, however it's still a good level. It could be a lot better but it still feels good to play for people. 3. Level Quality This level has great quality. It has some clicks that are fun to practice and it has some really good decoration in my opinion. Do I really have to say anymore? It's also Solo sooooo. Overall tidal wave is a good level in my personal opinion
That’s is the reason why a lot of people think it’s a good top one because it unique and not like most top 1 levels that are dark and hell themed people have jus gotten used to that and when they something that strays away from it they call it bad
its unique for sure, and it definitely grew on me ever since i watched it for the first time, its just there are way better levels that fit the top 1 spot like ascension to heaven and i should also note that i dislike hell levels lol, its just slaughterhouse really took level intensity to the next level back then compared to levels like zodiac
I think its way more fun to have very unique levels with fun themes that don't take themselves seriously. A beach theme isnt even that outlandish when you compare it to games like celeste where some of the hardest level themes include: voting in a presidential election and a troll remake of the first level
kyouki would be a better example imo, the decoration and gameplay is really great, intense and intimidating plus, its being a solo project while being solo verified (verified by the creator themselves instead of someone else) as well, thats the cherry on top for me

Im sure you have heard this alot by now but legit im really happy to have a top one that isnt hell themed. This is the first top one in a WHILE that really caught my attention. Like ya i agree that hell themed levels are probably more fitting for a top one but when most of the top ones we get are hell themed it gets really hard to care when someone creates a new hell level. So this is a really nice change of pace. Plus, the level looks really fun. I wish I was good enough to play it
its a nice change of scene (GD reference not intended), but personally tidal wave is overall not executed well enough to deserve that spot, i'd much rather wait for ascension to heaven, heliopolis, and many more better levels to be out either way, im glad zoink verified this beast of a level, despite me personally not liking this level as much as other upcoming top 1s ill probably play it on stream as well so i can see how fun it is since ive heard a lot of positive stuff about it

There are alot of hard extremes that aren't hell themed but the only somewhat recent top 1s that arent hell themed that come to mind are tidal wave and zodiac. If you wanna stretch it firework too but that level isn't much different from a hell themed one.
This is one of 2 levels that isn’t a hell themed top 1 the other being zodiac. I hate how every single top 1 has to be edgy and hell themed and it’s so boring and repetitive.
Hi guys and @Anglified, Zoink is better now to buff because of the community reaction after avernus. Also he is helped by lordvadorcraft, atomic and others to make the level nice and enjoyable.
Just for clarification, I’m pretty sure onilink said that the level was actually originally top 1, and that he is carefully watching zoink to make sure he doesn’t ruin the level. That being said, I THINK he said that, not perfectly sure :D
@@projugofastall oki, I never said that fixed hitboxes were bad tho. Only a few per section is fine imo, more than that is overkill. So yea, i think there’s not fixed hitbox spam. Especially after the hate zoink got for that.
I disagree with the atmosphere thing A level is a level, top 1 or not The level not being hell themed actually makes it stand out from all the other hell themed levels But i completly agree that the frame perfect gameplay is just trash And yes, i also agree that it feels repetitive and lazy decoration wise
i think the gameplay turned out really good + it not having the hectic feel of other top ones gives some breathing room for more clean difficulty rather than just not being able to see stuff
I like the fact that Tidal Wave is a level that escapes the monochromatic red that hell levels are, most of the demons that have this theme are made for the Demon List, to look like a demon, to live up to the top 1 position extreme demon, but I'm already sick of these types of levels, I think now they sound like more of the same, Tidal Wave escaped that and made a top 1 with a colorful and calmer atmosphere, as well as having really cool music, which despite that is a NON, they made a remix that can be used in the level. I believe it will be a memorable level, both for the decoration and the difficulty, I wish OniLink and Zoink much success for having collaborated to make this level a top 1.
I'd say it starts getting very intense after tmn's part, at around 60%~, the "last stretch" being this long leaves a lot of time for the pressure to settle in, making for a very intense ending It's also very memorable as it is the last top 1 we had before the endless chain of edgy/hell top 1's (Tartarus, Firework, Slaughterhouse, Sakupen Circles, Abyss of Darkness, Acheron)

I agree that Slaughterhouse has a really great atmosphere, yes, but all the other top 1s similar to it feel trashy because it's basically the same concept done worse. It's kind of like watching a "forbidden lovers" themed movie, there's Romeo and Juliette which is iconic, and then almost everything else feels like a copy of it. Tidal Wave actually made me feel again, for the first time, the same way Slaughterhouse did. Anyone who's played the game for enough time can see how terrifying it is. It's literally wave gameplay as tight as river's part in SH for 3 minutes straight, with almost no breathing pauses. It's not like other top 1s, which were a bit harder than the last one, this one is in a whole, insane new level. It wasn't made to intimidate new players who know nothing about gameplay, and it doesn't need to be edgy or spooky for that. It's terrifying as it is
I think that this would be better off in its original version (the top 10 one, or even the extended list one), since we all know how terrible of a verifier Zoink is. But it is a great breath of fresh air for this to be the next top one, since they've all been hell styled or extremely edgy since ICDX, with the exception of Sonic Wave and Zodiac.
Everyone collectively calls Zoink a bad verifier when he also verified tunnel of despair and kocmoc. Also, all of the playtesters say Tidal Wave is really fun and balanced.

Your opinion is kinda wrong. New players won't even understand the gameplay so they will trust the list, a level's difficulty is based on gameplay and not decoration and new players are smart enough to know that so they trust the list. Also it's good to have something not hell themed with reddish and black colors all the time as a top 1, it basically was the same decoration with each top and the only thing that changed was the difficulty of the timings. Tidal wave has top 1 gameplay but with a different style on decoration because it doesn't want to show that it's specifically a top 1 and have that boring feel to it, if I was grinding a level, I would rather it have the decoration of tidal wave than slaughterhouse so I think it's a pretty good top 1 and refreshing from all those hell themed levels

i agree this level is a good level but its not a good top 1 although its a breath of fresh air from the hell levels. its much better as what the creator wanted it to be, a top 10

Zoink didn’t actually buff this level, it was the creators which means no fixed hitboxes. However a top 120 being buffed to top 1 is questionable 3. I agree with you here. Yeah it obviously can be, but this level is adorable, not even remotely close to being intimidating. Honestly least intimidating top 50 maybe other than poocubed but that's just because it's a joke.
This is my opinion. Please don't being an asshole For me tidal wave is a mid top 1 but better than other top 1 at 2022. Because this is not hell theme. The song and atmosphere is good for me and the difficulty is way harder than other top 1.
I completely agree with you. The theme and song is great, but that's about it. It's yet another Top 1 heavily reliant on wave gameplay, and it's getting old.
I like having more variety than simple hell levels, but I do agree I like having intense songs/design for Top 1s. I think Tidal Wave is intense enough though. I mean, the wave is just crazy. I think Grief will be the perfect successor to Slaughterhouse though, it’s very fresh for a hell theme.

Tbf, a lot of them aren't able to formulate their own opinions and just fueled by pure dick riding, but the ones who does made a respectable move by sharing their thoughts and opinions, some of my views on this level had changed but I still stand by my point
I personally just believe it needs an update to make it look less like something that can be created in 2.0 by anybody and with a boring colour palette in some areas, to something that shows more potential
To be honest, I appreciate your respect for opposed opinions and honesty about your opinion yourself. Many other creators commit that mistake often. Personnaly, I don't think style matters that much about the levels' position in the Demonlist. Yet, buffing Demons for a higher ranking isn't quite usual and sometimes feels off and even disrespectful.
Buffing a levels is usually in a gray area for me. If people buff a level so that it's balanced, as long the level is well playtested and every input feels fair, I don't see a problem. But if the level is buffed just for the sake of it, without doing much playtesting and balancing afterwards, that's where most problems arise
Im so over hell themed top 1s 🤦🏿♂️ When Firework and slaughterhouse were in the process of being verified and placed on the list I was actually rooting for Firework to be harder
I have been on the community for quite a time now, something around 8 years or so. I've seen many things through that time, including Bloodbath's verification, Bloodlust as a top 1, the rise of Zodiac, Kenos, it's been quite a story now. But getting to the point of the video there are a few reconsiderations that should be made, even if you dislike the level. 1. Starting with the balancing, after 1.9 update the gamers' look into the top 10 levels was never about how good or how bad a level looks or it's atmosphere, it's about difficulty, what makes my point stand out is the fact that we are talking about a list of the HARDEST humanly possible levels in the game, so saying that something isn't accessible isn't a valid argument due to the nature of the list itself. 2. Themeing, of course it's personal opinion on this topic, but the fact that finally players are deconstructing the hell-themed levels as top 1 is a good thing, not only because we could get more and more creative ideas for top 1 feeling-like levels but also other themeing ideas are to come for top 1's, what I mean is that there would be stuff with dense and tense atmosphere for these who like, such as horror themeing and even more themes, a good example of creativity in the community is the new top 50 level called Jigsaw, take a look at it, it's amazing, Bloodswamps too, maybe even Tenebre Rosso Sangue ps: I love UltraKill. (I like a lot hell-themed levels, but I know just so many of them.. it saturates after some years) 3. Not On Newgrounds song, due to the nature of Geometry Dash I agree that it truly makes the full level experience less accessible and harder to get rated, but I can't see why SlaughterHouse did that and no one has ever said a thing. 4 Level quality, not much to talk about, the problem is really the level, but in such a high speed gameplay you wouldn't notice. In the end of the day we can really talk about level quality, it's quite questionable, but even if it was Hell-Themed, at this point it would be a joke too. People are used to the usual stuff of course, but changing can be for good, and about the level gameplay's which I see it was your most concern, there is a reason to it, which is to look like an impossible level, when you do some research you can see a pattern in impossible levels, and you can do the same to Tidal Wave, actually the level has 200 60FPS Frame Perfects and is made to look hard. Anyways, nice video, quite explaining and good edition, but that part talking about accessibility really caught me off-guard and I laughed quite a bit, I'm sorry, lol.
These are good points, and it’s true that it’s very unbalanced. For example: the wave parts are literally impossible considered to the rest of the level
tbh tidal wave stands out more then slaughterhouse for me and not because its more of an exiting level its just because the theme of slaughterhouse aka "scary hell demon pit" has litterly been made a million times like there's bloodlust, cataclysm, sakupen hell, sakupen circles, archeron bloodbath, arcturus, tarturus, and avernus, but tidal wave is just so much different and it just kind of stands out more.
reason why the golden didnt have issues like these are because it had atmosphere of top 1(unescapable and intense). tidal wave is worse than the golden.
Also yeahhh idk I wouldn’t really expect the gd community to have any sort of speaking comprehension let alone the capability of formulating any thoughts below surface level 😭 so don’t worry, you’re still doing the good work
Imo top 1s should stand out. Top 1s shouldn’t be a harder version of a lot of list demons, and yes, I’m referring to hell themed levels. Tidal Wave is different. Thinking about the fact of all the list demons, a beach themed level with upbeat music is the hardest, makes it a sound top 1
good take, i just find TW subpar, not worthy of that spot, much rather wait for something else to take that spot, but yeah, your take is still good and valid
Before you comment:
1. No I do not like hell levels. I just use Slaughterhouse as an example cuz it's well known and it nailed its atmosphere as mentioned in the video.
2. Each chapter is separate from each other. So in a way, comparing Slaughterhouse to Tidal Wave, Slaughterhouse will be more memorable imo. But in the grand scheme of things, hell levels are overdone anyway, so Tidal Wave is definitely a fresh breath of air.
3. I barely mentioned the gameplay in the video. And all the stuff I mentioned about the gameplay are purely speculation as the level wasn't out when this video was made.
4. Bad Top 1 =/= Bad Level. Overall as a brief conclusion, TW could've been executed better, that's what I don't like about it as a Top 1. Otherwise, good level.
5. Yes I acknowledged the like to dislike ratio is bad, stop commenting about it since you're not adding anything to the criticism.
6. Wish I could reply to all the new constructive criticism comments, but honestly the bad ones drown them out I don't really care about replying anymore. Stuff like "lmao x amount of dislikes on this video what a joke" and "gd player when no hell level as top 1" gets old really quick.

To make things more clear, Tidal Wave is a great level for a solo project, it has a good idea for a theme and tried to stand out from all the hell levels we got recently. Respect to OniLink for improving in creating immensely.
And to those who are saying I just want more hell levels, I would say no. In fact it's the opposite, I just want more levels that stand out like Ascension to Heaven, Heliopolis and many more that might release in the future.
And for final clarifications, for Top 1s, not just levels in general, **TOP 1s**, I would prefer something intense and stands out.
Levels like Flamewall, Heliopolis, Ascension to Heaven does those well. Has really intense gameplay, great theming and definitely stands out, and both are the opposite ends of the gameplay spectrum (one is an insane timing level, one is an XL fast paced level).
Tidal Wave for sure stands out, though it lacks in executing the theming and decoration, as well as the gameplay as compared to upcoming top 1s like those mentioned above. Therefore, it doesn't fit that well as a top 1 personally.

I think that it's silly to expect that a top 1 level needs to be edgy and hell themed. I welcome Tidal Wave as a much much needed breath of fresh air from red and grey levels that have been choking the top 1 scene for a while.

Top 1 is not about the nature of the level or how it looks, it is quite literally about it’s difficulty. Yes it might not be a good top 1 but it will be a top 1 anyway just because of how hard it is no matter if it is more or less intimidating than Slaughterhouse.
for me, tidal wave doesnt look as intimidating, even though it is harder than slaughterhouse, and i just had that small grudge on it, its just my own opinion

Not using levels difficulty to add to the theme is a huge waste of opportunity, so a top 1 that fully ignores its difficulty is really disappointing to see. (And using difficultly and giant difficulty range is a unique art tool that GD has, so to me Tidal Wave being popular is quite insulting to GD creativity)

In my opinion, top 1 levels should be about gameplay and depending on how hard it is should be its placement. Not saying repetitive gameplay like straight fly, tight jumps, and precise wave movements should be in a top 1. Also, this is my opinion.

To be honest, a few things I have to agree with there. Slaughterhouse and Acheron definitely look a lot more intimidating, but I think it’s a bit nice to have a calming and slightly more sight-readable top 1 and it gives us a little break from some overused top 1 styles. I think it is very overdecorated tho, and I personally don’t think it will be a great top 1 as well, but a top 1 is still a top 1. But it will prob still be bad cuz Zoink will superbuff it again lol

I think many players are at a point where we can take anything that’s objectively not a bad level and not hell themed to be a top 1. Tidal Wave to me looks kinda unpolished still, but the overall intensity, its build up from sunrise to sunset, and XL length make it seem to me like one of the most intimidating challenges the game has ever seen. It’s kinda like an even better Sonic Wave.
I think if the decoration was just optimized then half the problem would be gone

I think decoration-wise, ocular miracle is such an insanely good representation of an ideal top-1 kind of aesthetic. hell theme has had the crown for years. i love the artificial ascent/ocular miracle stuff.

I agree with the "slaughterhouse or tidal wave" one, cuz ur completely right slaughterhouse is so intense and you can see the difficulty of it while tidal wave is more like a really nice level with good deco but its top 1
some of the points u made are the exact reason why i and many more think this is an amazing top 1, ever since cataclysm which was top 1 when i started playing years later almost every top 1 still follows this trend of the same edgy and hellish theme with a few exceptions which are in my opinion the best top 1s we have ever had (zodiac for example), what i hope tidal wave and the levels that come after it will achieve is finally diversify the top levels in terms of themes (and gameplay too hopefully)

I'm not in any position to judge or speculate how levels would interact with the game/community as a whole, but I will say that the level itself is a welcome change of scene from the all too well known "dark, hell, or intimidating" theming that's often used and prioritized in the hardest levels circulating throughout the game's lifespan.
Although, I'd have to agree with your statement on how the level doesn't quite live up to some player's expectations and standards (i.e. the reused backgrounds).
Nevertheless, the noticeable imperfections could simply be chalked up as an excuse due to the level being a solo project, which is indeed is the case.
In the end, I would say that opinions generally have to be taken with a grain of salt, as an individual's personal beliefs on a certain matter holds wildly varying levels of scrutiny.

There is no reason why I a top 1 should have to be hell themed. There are far more approaches you can have to making a top 1 than just “intimidating lava atmosphere”.
I personally like it, I feel it would be an ok top 1, but it doesn’t have the top 1 feeling, however the gameplay looks really fun, despite probably being better if slightly nerfed, it’s also xL so it’s way more accessible, I also like how it looks, it’s really charming but also is kinda messy which is my main issue, I still really like it tho

Honestly, it does have top 1 feeling. In fact, there IS no top 1 feeling, it was just ruined by a whole series of hell/dark levels, so it looks like a light level wouldnt be a top 1.

I do think light levels can feel good as top 1s, I think ascension to heaven and eod, or limbo would make great top 1s

Here's my personal opinion on why I like Tidal Wave.
1. Defining a Top 1
In my personal opinion Top 1's are hard while also being appealing and standing out from the rest. For example, Slaughterhouse is hard while standing out in the crowd and being a well known top 1 level. For Bloodbath, it was very hard and it stood out because it was absolute leagues above anything else at the time. The only problem that I have with the 2 levels above this are the fact that they are based off of a certain theme. It's so overdone that I'm just tired of it and Tidal Wave is difficulty, stands out and it uses it's on unique theme. Another level that I really love is Kocmoc which is purple instead of red. I'm actually sad that this level isn't as popular as something like Bloodlust.
To sum it up, in my opinion a Top 1 has to be hard and it has to stand out from the rest.
2. My opinion on Zonk
Personally, I don't like it when Zoink verifies a buffed version of a level that was meant to be in the top 20 for example. The level feels to hard and it isn't that fun to play. In my opinion, if somebody like Trick had verified the level instead then it would be a much better level, however it's still a good level. It could be a lot better but it still feels good to play for people.
3. Level Quality
This level has great quality. It has some clicks that are fun to practice and it has some really good decoration in my opinion. Do I really have to say anymore? It's also Solo sooooo.
Overall tidal wave is a good level in my personal opinion
That’s is the reason why a lot of people think it’s a good top one because it unique and not like most top 1 levels that are dark and hell themed people have jus gotten used to that and when they something that strays away from it they call it bad
its unique for sure, and it definitely grew on me ever since i watched it for the first time, its just there are way better levels that fit the top 1 spot like ascension to heaven

Im sure you have heard this alot by now but legit im really happy to have a top one that isnt hell themed. This is the first top one in a WHILE that really caught my attention. Like ya i agree that hell themed levels are probably more fitting for a top one but when most of the top ones we get are hell themed it gets really hard to care when someone creates a new hell level. So this is a really nice change of pace.

I like the fact that Tidal Wave is a level that escapes the monochromatic red that hell levels are, most of the demons that have this theme are made for the Demon List, to look like a demon, to live up to the top 1 position extreme demon, but I'm already sick of these types of levels, I think now they sound like more of the same, Tidal Wave escaped that and made a top 1 with a colorful and calmer atmosphere, as well as having really cool music, which despite that is a NON, they made a remix that can be used in the level. I believe it will be a memorable level, both for the decoration and the difficulty, I wish OniLink and Zoink much success for having collaborated to make this level a top 1.
Well, Zodiac isn’t insanely intense, yet it is (for me) the first thing that would come up when someone mentions a top 1.
It has great progression, zodiac is great as a top 1 imo as well
I'd say it starts getting very intense after tmn's part, at around 60%~, the "last stretch" being this long leaves a lot of time for the pressure to settle in, making for a very intense ending
It's also very memorable as it is the last top 1 we had before the endless chain of edgy/hell top 1's (Tartarus, Firework, Slaughterhouse, Sakupen Circles, Abyss of Darkness, Acheron)

I agree that Slaughterhouse has a really great atmosphere, yes, but all the other top 1s similar to it feel trashy because it's basically the same concept done worse. It's kind of like watching a "forbidden lovers" themed movie, there's Romeo and Juliette which is iconic, and then almost everything else feels like a copy of it.
Tidal Wave actually made me feel again, for the first time, the same way Slaughterhouse did. Anyone who's played the game for enough time can see how terrifying it is. It's literally wave gameplay as tight as river's part in SH for 3 minutes straight, with almost no breathing pauses. It's not like other top 1s, which were a bit harder than the last one, this one is in a whole, insane new level. It wasn't made to intimidate new players who know nothing about gameplay, and it doesn't need to be edgy or spooky for that. It's terrifying as it is
I think that this would be better off in its original version (the top 10 one, or even the extended list one), since we all know how terrible of a verifier Zoink is. But it is a great breath of fresh air for this to be the next top one, since they've all been hell styled or extremely edgy since ICDX, with the exception of Sonic Wave and Zodiac.
Everyone collectively calls Zoink a bad verifier when he also verified tunnel of despair and kocmoc. Also, all of the playtesters say Tidal Wave is really fun and balanced.

Your opinion is kinda wrong. New players won't even understand the gameplay so they will trust the list, a level's difficulty is based on gameplay and not decoration and new players are smart enough to know that so they trust the list. Also it's good to have something not hell themed with reddish and black colors all the time as a top 1, it basically was the same decoration with each top and the only thing that changed was the difficulty of the timings. Tidal wave has top 1 gameplay but with a different style on decoration because it doesn't want to show that it's specifically a top 1 and have that boring feel to it, if I was grinding a level, I would rather it have the decoration of tidal wave than slaughterhouse so I think it's a pretty good top 1 and refreshing from all those hell themed levels

i agree this level is a good level but its not a good top 1 although its a breath of fresh air from the hell levels. its much better as what the creator wanted it to be, a top 10
1. I feel like a level can do a good job at being “threatening” without being hell themed. I feel like sonic wave and zodiac demonstrate this well.
2. Zoink didn’t actually buff this level, it was the creators which means no fixed hitboxes. However a top 120 being buffed to top 1 is questionable

For me tidal wave is a mid top 1 but better than other top 1 at 2022. Because this is not hell theme. The song and atmosphere is good for me and the difficulty is way harder than other top 1.
I completely agree with you. The theme and song is great, but that's about it. It's yet another Top 1 heavily reliant on wave gameplay, and it's getting old.
I like having more variety than simple hell levels, but I do agree I like having intense songs/design for Top 1s. I think Tidal Wave is intense enough though. I mean, the wave is just crazy. I think Grief will be the perfect successor to Slaughterhouse though, it’s very fresh for a hell theme.

tidal wave is 3 minutes long tho, the amount of energy you need to focus the entire time is insane. While others usually ends in 1.5 minutes

I don’t really like Tidal Wave, it feels more like a top 1 challenge list level, not a top 1 demonlist level. It just doesn’t give the right vibe.
To be honest, I appreciate your respect for opposed opinions and honesty about your opinion yourself. Many other creators commit that mistake often. Personnaly, I don't think style matters that much about the levels' position in the Demonlist. Yet, buffing Demons for a higher ranking isn't quite usual and sometimes feels off and even disrespectful.
Buffing a levels is usually in a gray area for me. If people buff a level so that it's balanced, as long the level is well playtested and every input feels fair, I don't see a problem.
But if the level is buffed just for the sake of it, without doing much playtesting and balancing afterwards, that's where most problems arise
For me, any top one which isint hell themed is good, and its fresh and new.

I have been on the community for quite a time now, something around 8 years or so. I've seen many things through that time, including Bloodbath's verification, Bloodlust as a top 1, the rise of Zodiac, Kenos, it's been quite a story now. But getting to the point of the video there are a few reconsiderations that should be made, even if you dislike the level.
1. Starting with the balancing, after 1.9 update the gamers' look into the top 10 levels was never about how good or how bad a level looks or it's atmosphere, it's about difficulty, what makes my point stand out is the fact that we are talking about a list of the HARDEST humanly possible levels in the game, so saying that something isn't accessible isn't a valid argument due to the nature of the list itself.
2. Themeing, of course it's personal opinion on this topic, but the fact that finally players are deconstructing the hell-themed levels as top 1 is a good thing, not only because we could get more and more creative ideas for top 1 feeling-like levels but also other themeing ideas are to come for top 1's, what I mean is that there would be stuff with dense and tense atmosphere for these who like, such as horror themeing and even more themes, a good example of creativity in the community is the new top 50 level called Jigsaw, take a look at it, it's amazing, Bloodswamps too, maybe even Tenebre Rosso Sangue ps: I love UltraKill. (I like a lot hell-themed levels, but I know just so many of them.. it saturates after some years)
3. Not On Newgrounds song, due to the nature of Geometry Dash I agree that it truly makes the full level experience less accessible and harder to get rated, but I can't see why SlaughterHouse did that and no one has ever said a thing.
4 Level quality, not much to talk about, the problem is really the level, but in such a high speed gameplay you wouldn't notice.
In the end of the day we can really talk about level quality, it's quite questionable, but even if it was Hell-Themed, at this point it would be a joke too. People are used to the usual stuff of course, but changing can be for good, and about the level gameplay's which I see it was your most concern, there is a reason to it, which is to look like an impossible level, when you do some research you can see a pattern in impossible levels, and you can do the same to Tidal Wave, actually the level has 200 60FPS Frame Perfects and is made to look hard. Anyways, nice video, quite explaining and good edition, but that part talking about accessibility really caught me off-guard and I laughed quite a bit, I'm sorry, lol.

tbh tidal wave stands out more then slaughterhouse for me and not because its more of an exiting level its just because the theme of slaughterhouse aka "scary hell demon pit" has litterly been made a million times like there's bloodlust, cataclysm, sakupen hell, sakupen circles, archeron bloodbath, arcturus, tarturus, and avernus, but tidal wave is just so much different and it just kind of stands out more.
reason why the golden didnt have issues like these are because it had atmosphere of top 1(unescapable and intense). tidal wave is worse than the golden.

Imo top 1s should stand out. Top 1s shouldn’t be a harder version of a lot of list demons, and yes, I’m referring to hell themed levels. Tidal Wave is different. Thinking about the fact of all the list demons, a beach themed level with upbeat music is the hardest, makes it a sound top 1
