Looking forward to additional feedback on accuracy for trim work. These small saws should (in theory) be great for the occasional trim repair, but for larger trim they rely on both the bevel and slide functions. Both if those (bevel and slide can introduce additional accuracy challenges (i.e. non-parallel blades affect the slide and bevel cuts are more susceptible to blade deflection, etc.). When do you think they will update the 36v to this new featureset (led, better side supports, better ux)? This is so good, better than the Festool, just don't want another battery platform... Happy with the 18v
I've been kicking myself for not getting the 10" 36v when they had it on sale for 512usd with 4 batteries. but after using the company one and seeing the improvements on this one I can't wait until they release the 40v here.
I'm really tempted to buy this saw, just wondering how long the batteries last under typical use like 2nd fixing a large house, not always got power in the house when on 2nd fix
If i understood correctly, your issue is that the wood you are trying to cut has slight bend in it. When you are cutting, you are creating relief cut. Since you push the blade, the wood wants to "fold" towards the blade gripping it to a halt. The wider the material is, the bigger issues you have.
Unlike the older model you showed in this video does the new 40v one have the groove so your able to mitre say 4 to 5 inch skirting in the upright position
such a nice tool, and so compact, lightweight. might be nice if they could also bring back the laser at the same time as keeping the shadow line. to cover widest possible range of different lighting conditions. well it doesnt matter to me i guess! as i dont need a mitre saw. good tool to get for 40v platform though. the quality of it really so well built
Looks count for my enjoyment of a tool and that darker metal is sweet looking. Holy shoot! The shadow line like my DeWalt. I want the corded Makita saw for the rail to wal space saving. Maybe an updated version by the time my DeWalt is wearing out. Also did you know a random carpenter UA-camr sells angle plates made out of heavier metal? He started selling years ago but it’s in US and he has to have 50-100 or some number of orders to have a batch made. May have to wait but it’s awesome he made them. Name is Stene Woodwork here on the Tubes.
Great video thank you. I'm sold, gonna make my order. Can you (or anyone) share the height of the base to the table top ? I want to check if i need to make a new table to fit this in so the rest of my table willsupport the material when it's placed on the table bed. I can't seem to find the information anywhere. Appreciate your time.
I was going to buy the big 12" version and after watching this I will now buy this model. It made me realise the 12" is probably too much saw for me. I hope the Australian version is the same as the NZ version. Thanks.
I just got mine, and ... The Right Bevil unlock sticks. You pull it out, and you bevil... then try to get it back to zero and you have to get a hammer and a pin to tap it back home so the saw can lock back to zero. I also had to spray penetrating oil on it. I now have it sitting at an angle with 3-in-1 oil hopefully seeping down inside the miter joint to grease whatever it is that was painted after the fit. I think we can now say why it is Makita doesn't make the 1 handed all in 1 adjustment mechanism for the newer 40v cordless Miter saws they have released in America. This setup seems to be the weakpoint and the strongpoint of the saw at the same time. Am I the only one that is having this problem?
Whenever something sticks on my miter saw, I use a dry lubricant like graphite powder, as long as it's not contacting any grease from the manufacturer. It works so good
You make a great informative video, plus your audio was loud and very understandable. That is a great saw, I've owned several makita miter saws in the past. I purchased makitas first battery miter saw years ago it had a 7 inch blade. Great little saw for shoe molding etc. But did not have enough power and RPMS. Looking to get this one, wanted the Milwaukee miter saw but to many complaints.
Hi mate been looking at this saw online is there any chance the next time you have the saw out an you tell me if it would cut 95mm X 16mm skirting board standing vertical against the fence? I cut my mitre's and scribe's this way saves me laying the saw in the bevel setting thanks and keep the good reviews coming 👌🏻
XGT 40V just launched in the U.S.A. today...but the miter saw is not part of the initial launch (just "coming soon" unfortunately). It will be interesting to see if folks are willing to jump to the Makita 40V instead of the "one battery" that works on everything with Milwaukee (high amp batts) and Dewalt (Flexvolts fir on regular 20v max tools). Makita seems to try to compete on the features and quality of their tools (like this one)...not sure it will be enough.
The only thing that's bugging me and keeping me from getting it is I'm 99.9% already on flexvolt and 20v max dewalt line. So unless there's some sort of a gizmo adapter that I can 1. Plug it into a socket like the flexvolt miter saw 2. Adapter from makita to dewalt battery... Kinda like I have the Milwaukee nail guns with dewalt batteries. Unfortunately I can't get with having multiple chargers and multiple battery platforms. There's just no sense in it. Also in my opinion. Makita 40v battery line is too large for any of the other tools. It's just too bulky. Kinda like runing flexvolt battery on impact... It's just 2 big. Best solution is to have some adapter that makes it a corded or cordless unit
I have a question I can’t get this saw square I put a square against the fence and then put it against the blade when it’s square I tightened the screws but then I if I want to cut the full length of the saw it’s like 2/3mm out I can’t figure it out maybe There is something wrong with the blade or something
Well I think I know what’s going on probably the saw is not sqaure to the bars iam going to send it back unfortunately cuz I really like how it works but mine is not accurate not even for framing 😂
Omg 8:59 they have to fix the locked away position to make it tighter instead of the 3mm movement banging around. been listening to my 36v bang around in the back of my van for years drives me nuts. love the pin idea. i usually jam a rag in it
Trying to order one here in the US. Sadly it’s not available. I have the Makita 10” saw but after back fusion and two knee surgeries… I’ve got to cut weight of of my tools. I wish Mikita would make this same saw with a 10” blade, keep the same size frame, rails etc. Just go to the larger blade and adjust the head to accommodate. I’m a big fan of the shadow light. I have it on a couple of other saws we have, a Dewalt and Milwaukee. The Milwaukee will work in all but direct sunlight. I’ve found all I have to do is put the saw in the shade. Thanks for the great review.
I was looking on the Mikita web site. It says 48.52 shipping lbs. my 10” Makita is 57.9 lbs. I’m going to guess. If the 48.52 shipping lbs is correct then the box, packaging add up to about 5 lbs. So the unit with batteries is probably 45 lbs. but all this is a guess. If your correct on weight. Then it’s heavier than the larger 10”.
@Tools & Stuff Any recommendations on mitre saw stand? Would always be transported around. Would like to go Makita but if have a better recommendations that would be great. Enjoy 🤘
I waited and waited and waited before buying the 36 volt saw because of the price and just how big it was. But my trusty old small and light Ryobi was just feeling its age and Home Depot had a great deal on a kit so I pulled the trigger and bought it. And then literally 2 weeks later this XGT saw was announced and it is the perfect setup. Of course it's a lot more expensive and I can't get it in the states yet. But I sure want it even thought he 36v saw is great (except the laser).
This saw is available in some parts of the states. But you may want to hold off until you have seen the reviews of the 10" and 12" XGTs which are already out in some parts of the world. Reviews here soon hopefully...
Picked this up last week after looking at options for a small but feature-rich saw. Nice out of the box. The shadow line is useless. Every other element of the saw is spot on!
This saw was never advertised to have a shadow line, its just a work light, dewalt has the patent for shadowline so i don't know where you seen where it says it has a shadow line, who ever said it has this feature is talking bo--ocks and if anybody on utube said it has is wrong too, as this guy, its just a work light, this guys full of shite
I wish they had this as a 18vx2 when I bought the 190mm dropy (don't no the item number) I just waiting for a half decent reason to start buying 40v as there is not alot of 18v makita tools I don't own.
No dude. Send me a quick vid to my email or Instagram showing what exactly the problem is because I'm not sure we're on the same page. If I can't sort it I'll give you the email of someone who can.
Some tools do not really need to be dc powered, especially the not so mobile ones like this saw. What's the advantage really? This is more of a workshop piece of equipment- I prefer the corded one.
At first sight, I said WOW. Under your lighting, it looked like gunmetal, not the normal raw metal look. Great review. The bevel cuts on 12x2 timber was a taxing on the 2.5Ah, I didn't hear you say that with the 4Ah. Also, it seemed you were comparing the size of a 12 inch miter, with an 8.5 inch. Of course the 8.5 is going to be smaller. Great video, and I am in the market for a Makita miter saw, but I was leaning towards the plug in type.... Not sure if I'll be moving it much.
@tools & stuff I’m an apprentice carpenter and my company is now putting me in my own truck to be on my own I need a good 12in miter saw but don’t know what one to pick. Any opinion?
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL I’m not sure I’ve always used my leads corded but the cordless makita isn’t too much more then the corded, everyone complains bout prices but I want a good one cause you gotta spend money to make it in my opinion.
Hey mate, not sure what that detent plate is, but the 18v x2 detent plate is magnetic as there is a thin piece of steel underneath. I hope this one isn't the same. I've replaced mine with a stainless steel one.
I finally saw this in person at a store. I was even allowed to touch it. It looks very premium. I was really considering this when buying a more compact saw, but it weighs more than my 255mm, so I went with a 190mm saw. I really want to rig up a dual port dust collection like this has...somehow.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Well, I've never picked it up, so I'm just going by its listings online. Maybe that's the package weight total, but it says 25kg. My old 255mm was 20.4kg. The 190mm I ended up with is 15.4kg, which is still a good bit heavier than the Milwaukee 190/185mm.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Well it's too late now because I bought a different saw for that very reason. Makita should really post the actual weight on their website, because there website and everywhere lists the weight as "55.1lbs," including acme, which lists it as "assembled weight: 55.1lbs." You're awfully hostile. I love this channel. I think it's the only tool channel I'm actually subscribed to, and one of the only channels I have notifications on for. I've bought tools based on recommendations here, including imports, but most of the times I comment, a back-bitey reply is quick to follow. Have a good day.
seem's like a good review, but as i am viewing from the state's, some additional info in inches & pounds would be cool, maybe info could be placed on screen like captioning, otherwise nice review.
Hey mate, not sure if you'll still be monitoring the comments on this video but I'll ask anyway. Are you still using this, and if so any new thoughts after long term use? I'm another kiwi builder looking to grab a new droppy and the weight and size of this is super tempting but I'm worried I'll miss the capacity of the 305mm blade.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIALGood to know. I'm tossing up between the one in the video and the LS1219 (based on budget). I'm leaning toward the LS002 but I'm having a hard time committing to the smaller capacity. Cheers for the chat!
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL How are you liking the 305? I'm on fence between 216 and 260 for home use, my research says the 260/305 are basically the prior chassis with stainless indent plate and shadow line. The 305 has more substantial wings than 260 but same format. I'm looking for a Festool killer.

Can you please do a comparison between the Metabo 36v Miter Saw vs the Makita 40v... thank you 😊
It's a 40v max... which means, like Dewalt, it is really 36v... Regardless, it's a Makita so it will be awesome and last a long time!
I've been kicking myself for not getting the 10" 36v when they had it on sale for 512usd with 4 batteries. but after using the company one and seeing the improvements on this one I can't wait until they release the 40v here.
Or you could wait until they bring a 10 inch XGT out, you know it’s only a matter of time, it might be a 80 volt two batteries, that will be good..
I had to calibrate mine.
Quarter of a degree on base an 1 degree on vertical.
Apart from that it’s a good saw!
I'm anal about that too!
I'm really tempted to buy this saw, just wondering how long the batteries last under typical use like 2nd fixing a large house, not always got power in the house when on 2nd fix
Does it come with a stand ? If not what one is compatible ?
I’ve had some issues of the saw kicking back quite frequently when pushing through cuts. Does anyone know why? Is this happening to anyone else?
That is a sexy saw.
Awesome review too. The attention to detail is first class. 👌🏻
Thanks. Much appreciated.
Great review. It convinced me to buy one! Thank you
Looks count for my enjoyment of a tool and that darker metal is sweet looking.
Another awesome review, knew I wouldn't be disappointed in the 40v 216mm Mitre Saw. Any dates for the 260mm or 305mm 40v?
Not yet...
I was going to buy the big 12" version and after watching this I will now buy this model. It made me realise the 12" is probably too much saw for me. I hope the Australian version is the same as the NZ version. Thanks.
They are the same.
good afternoon will this saw cut vertically 40x80? 35x80?
Will she cut a 40x80 beam while lying with her head piled under 45?
Darn, why can't Makita just make a 36V LXT version of this saw and a 10" version. Or some kind of double LXT (36V) to XGT (40V) adapter...
I know it cuts 90 x 18mm
@@tysonfoster7223 will it do it on 45° aswell?
@@11711BRANDON upright? Yea
@@tysonfoster7223 thanks
So unless there's some sort of a gizmo adapter that I can
1. Plug it into a socket like the flexvolt miter saw
Or iam scared it’s the bars but they look straight to me
Well I think I know what’s going on probably the saw is not sqaure to the bars iam going to send it back unfortunately cuz I really like how it works but mine is not accurate not even for framing 😂
Today I tried to buy this saw .In Australia it’s currently sold out and pre orders are expected February 2022.
I can send you one from here... shipping might be a bit steep though...
Omg 8:59 they have to fix the locked away position to make it tighter instead of the 3mm movement banging around. been listening to my 36v bang around in the back of my van for years drives me nuts. love the pin idea. i usually jam a rag in it
Did you ever work with a Kapex? Can you compare blade deflection?
The 40v 12" is not far away. I will try and find out how heavy it is. I have seen pics and it looks smaller than the 10" lxt.
Wow, it's super heavy! 30kg (66 lbs)
I'm talking about the new LS003G 12''
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIALyep…. Sorry. That’s not too bad for a 12”
Comparison vid with the hikoki 36v 185mm miter saw?
@Tools & Stuff Any recommendations on mitre saw stand? Would always be transported around. Would like to go Makita but if have a better recommendations that would be great. Enjoy 🤘
That's something I've never done a comparison on. So I don't know which one is the best I'm afraid.
The handle suits left and right handers as well as the double bevel
Is there an adapter that can hook this up to AC power? This will mostly live on my bench with the odd time I would need only battery power. Thank you!
No.
Pull your head out of your arse mate. All new Makita 40v mitre saws have shadow lines.
Thanks for video, my next tool. Cheers
Is it possible to get blade light to come on when you press trigger
Have you tried out the 260mm version? I predominantly frame so not being able to cut 90x35 on edge is a bit of a deal-breaker.
Why not lay it flat?
@@andy2231 can't cut studs as quickly or use props to cut large quantities quickly.
Can you fit a 235mm bladein there?
I wish they had this as a 18vx2 when I bought the 190mm dropy (don't no the item number) I just waiting for a half decent reason to start buying 40v as there is not alot of 18v makita tools I don't own.
How do you adjust the rails. Mines cutting into the plastic when pulled right out on a left mitre.???
Have you adjusted the kerf plates.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL is that the plate with the stop indents on it??
Great review, very informative
At first sight, I said WOW. Under your lighting, it looked like gunmetal, not the normal raw metal look. Great review. The bevel cuts on 12x2 timber was a taxing on the 2.5Ah, I didn't hear you say that with the 4Ah. Also, it seemed you were comparing the size of a 12 inch miter, with an 8.5 inch. Of course the 8.5 is going to be smaller. Great video, and I am in the market for a Makita miter saw, but I was leaning towards the plug in type.... Not sure if I'll be moving it much.
This saw is so dreamy I’m so keen to see the what more the xgt range has to offer
Have you watched the other 6 xgt tools I've reviewed? 😉
I have mate your videos are addicting
Damn that thing doesn't slow down at all on those bevel cuts.
What is the height of the base to the table?
I'm still waiting for makita to release the 165mm 18v saw which is like this but smaller. Might have to order from Japan.
#Tools&Stuff this is an awesome vid, Just bought this tool last week...
@tools & stuff I’m an apprentice carpenter and my company is now putting me in my own truck to be on my own I need a good 12in miter saw but don’t know what one to pick. Any opinion?
Dewalt 12 inch drop saws are pretty much the go to for most just look up a bunch of UA-cam reviews on them either corded or cordless
Do you want a cordless one? If so, the best in my opinion is the Makita DLS211
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL I’m not sure I’ve always used my leads corded but the cordless makita isn’t too much more then the corded, everyone complains bout prices but I want a good one cause you gotta spend money to make it in my opinion.
Great saw, except you can't cut a standard 4x4 post in one pass. The blade is 1/16 too small.
No saw with a blade this size will.
Can’t wait to get this in Australia.
Hurry up Makita.
Haven't you guys got this yet? It's been out here for nearly a year.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL
Not yet and Makita haven’t got a date yet.
Can you cut 140 x 18 on edge with it.
Hey mate, not sure what that detent plate is, but the 18v x2 detent plate is magnetic as there is a thin piece of steel underneath. I hope this one isn't the same.
I've replaced mine with a stainless steel one.
This one is def not Ali, as soon as I opened the box I looked in and thought "Yes! Stainless mitre gauge!"
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL nice, I still want to try order this saw but the 18v 165mm version from japan, do you know how to go about doing so?
ebay.us/DDUE4R Shipping will be a killer
Whoops, I just saw you wrote 18v not 40v
The 18v should be available in Aussie. DLS600
Can you use 5ah battery to makita ls002 mitre saw?
Yes.
Is the machine come with the battery and charger
Like most Makita tools you can buy it in a kit with battery and charger or as a bare tool if you already have batteries and a charger.
I finally saw this in person at a store. I was even allowed to touch it. It looks very premium. I was really considering this when buying a more compact saw, but it weighs more than my 255mm, so I went with a 190mm saw. I really want to rig up a dual port dust collection like this has...somehow.
Weighs more than which 255mm? This saw is so light compared to most saws.
Pity you haven't actually watched this video as I talk a lot about the weight.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Well it's too late now because I bought a different saw for that very reason. Makita should really post the actual weight on their website, because there website and everywhere lists the weight as "55.1lbs," including acme, which lists it as "assembled weight: 55.1lbs."
You're awfully hostile. I love this channel. I think it's the only tool channel I'm actually subscribed to, and one of the only channels I have notifications on for. I've bought tools based on recommendations here, including imports, but most of the times I comment, a back-bitey reply is quick to follow. Have a good day.
Well it does annoy me when people comment on my videos without watching them and spread incorrect information.
seem's like a good review, but as i am viewing from the state's, some additional info in inches & pounds would be cool, maybe info could be placed on screen like captioning, otherwise nice review.
Very good review!
Damn, why couldn't they have made the handle horizontal, and added the option for a ac power.... come on makita.... great review man
That would be good, ac power as well, but it all adds to the cost
Great review thanks
Can you fit a 235mm blade on it?
No.
Great review, thanks
Hey mate, not sure if you'll still be monitoring the comments on this video but I'll ask anyway. Are you still using this, and if so any new thoughts after long term use? I'm another kiwi builder looking to grab a new droppy and the weight and size of this is super tempting but I'm worried I'll miss the capacity of the 305mm blade.
I monitor all videos, all the time. I didn't keep it because as you say, I wanted the capacity of the 305mm. So now I use the 305mm LS003G.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Cheers for the response, much appreciated. Fair enough, any complaints about the LS003G?
Awesome saw but very heavy. Twice the weight of the one in this video.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIALGood to know. I'm tossing up between the one in the video and the LS1219 (based on budget). I'm leaning toward the LS002 but I'm having a hard time committing to the smaller capacity. Cheers for the chat!
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Love your video. Can you do a review on 305mm? haven't seen any in-depth video on the 305 on youtube
Are you going to review the 260mm XGT mitersaw, or did I miss it?
I've got the 305mm... review eventually.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL I presume the 305 is more or less the same as the 260
Pretty much.
Waiting for the corded version. Waiting...... waiting...... waiting......
Wish they made this style in a 10 incher
How deep can it cut 18mm timber standing upright against the fence ?
