    Excellent video! I've got a penn battle and a penn slammer that were found on the bottom while diving. Excellent video to walk through break down so I can clean them up and use them!

    For applying grease I use elf eyeliner brush
    Also I wash bearings in diesel fuel or kerosene , put them in a water bottle with kerosene and a shake shake shake,,,

    Great video. Why do you use a different kind of grease on the drags ?

    • @TSGReelService
      @TSGReelService  2 роки тому

      Thanks for checking out the video! The brown grease is more expensive, and designed to be used with carbon fiber drags. You can use over the entire reel also, if you want. More vids to come.

    Fantastic video once again, I watch your videos when I work on my reels.
    I made a bit of an amateur mistake working on my Slammer cleaning my drags and thought soapy water would do the trick:/ the glue holding the drags to the plates gave. Am I able to glue them back on? What type of glue or should I get new ones? Advice much appreciated. Antonio

    • @TSGReelService
      @TSGReelService  6 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching, brother! Sorry to hear about the drag washers issue. I use Brake Cleaner on those things when I want to get them clean and never had an issue, so it separating with just some soap and water seems odd.
      If the carbon fiber is fine, yes you can glue them back on.A thin layer of JB Weld (ORIGINAL) should work fine... just need to put some weight on it for about 24 hours so it can set properly (read the instructions).... just be sure to not have the weight interact with the glue, otherwise, that's where the washer will stay. Hope this helps. Barry
      P. S. - I would probably just get new ones.

    Nice breakdown of the reel…..Have a slammer 6500 that too acouple hard hits on ground.I feels rough now but not sure why.Hasn’t been used a lot.Took it apart and nothing obvious as far bear damage.Thought maybe main shaft got bent but doesn’t appear that way.Rolled it on a mirror to check it.Any thoughts?

    • @TSGReelService
      @TSGReelService  Рік тому

      Thanks for checking out the video. A bent shaft would result in more of a sluggish feel while oscillating. The first thing I would check are the line roller bearings, then the pinion and main bearings. If all those are fine, do a close up check the teeth of your main and pinion gears.... if they're worn, you can try adding some shims to the MG. Hope that helps.

    Great video! I just purchased a Slammer III 10500. I’m looking modify the drag washers to get more low end for bait fishing. Are the Dura Drag washers interchangeable with other drag washers (the HT-100)? Or can I simply remove one of the drag washers to get lower drags out of the reel?

    • @TSGReelService
      @TSGReelService  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching! I'm assuming you're referring to the lower drag, since that's where the majority of "heavy drag" originates. In theory, you should be able to remove one of the lower end drag with another metal washer, and that should help, but will affect top end drag. You're probably better getting a second smaller reel for smaller fish.

    God damn this video is a life saver. I’m attempting to rebuild/replace some seals in my Slammer 4500. I noticed some differences in the 9500 but for the most part things seem similar. Anything I should be aware of? Also what is safe to use as a degreaser or cleaner for the internal body of the reel and gears?

    • @TSGReelService
      @TSGReelService  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching! Glad to hear you found the video useful. Nothing significantly different that I can think of off the top of my head. For cleaning, I would probably just use Corrosion X (or another type of penetrating oil), Q-Tips, a toothbrush and paper towels. It'll be the safest way. More vids to come.... spread the word about the channel.

    Just wanted to tell you how helpful your videos are for me. Excellent and very thorough. I just serviced my Slammer 3 5500 using this video as a reference. One thing I noticed with my reel was the rotor nut, if just hand tightened to much, made the rotor sluggish. I had to back the rotor nut off until it was almost loose before the rotor would spin freely. Is this normal? I put the nut cover over it so it won’t move. I understand if the rotor is tightened to much it can cause the rotor to bind. My rotor nut must be loose for the rotor to spin. I also have a 4500 model, and that reel I can tighten the rotor nut and it still spins freely. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

      Thanks for checking out the video! I have a smaller version than this 9500 that came in that I'll record servicing today.... should be posted in a month or so.
      Regarding the loose rotor nut explained..... sounds like you have a pinion bearing issue.... start by replacing the lower pinion bearing to see if that helps. Then go to the upper.

    • @TommyS3119
      @TommyS3119 2 роки тому

      Thanks for the reply. I’m gonna try what you said and see what happens. I’ll just pick up 2 bearings from mystic. The existing bearings look like new, but who knows until I try it. . The only way the rotor even spins is if I hand tighten lightly. I notice the rotor has a tiny wobble also, due to not being able to tighten down the nut. Anyway, thanks again for the advice. Much appreciated.

      You're welcome and no worries. For some reason, those reels feel better with a little extra grease on the gears. You can try that first and see how it feels. Still the same? Then try playing with the number of shims on the main gear.
