I was hearing a pop singers drummer until you said Billy Idol and 🎉 that is it. Oh no...now I'm singing "With a rebel yell she cried more, more, more" thanks JP ❤
At first I was like "Lunar Sea" -- by Camel? Cool! Alas, no. But apparently Luna Sea were huge in Japan. To my ears, I don't detect any prog or punk rock, but it's hard to judge based on one song. The sound IMO is a mix of speed metal and hair metal, while the presentation is your basic anime boy band (apparently these guys were part of a wave of bands that were all about their looks as much as their music. Which sounds like hair metal to me.) Still, the Japanese never do anything by half measures! Thanks, Justin. I've expanded my musical horizons today. 😁
To me, it sounds like standard 80s arena rock with a slight gothic/new wave flair, he mentioned Billy Idol and that’s probably the best comparison. Some of their other songs lean more into the gothic/dreamy side, such as I For You, In Silence or Loveless, other good tracks in the vein of this one are True Blue and Storm.
When you are watching a current Japanese Rock/Metal and you're thinking about who influenced them. The Bands of the 80's and 90's in Japan were far better than 90% of the western bands. 2 to look up X Japan and Show Ya!!!
LUNA SEAをアップしてくれて嬉しいです(`・ω・´)ゞ
