Hi Luke, sad to say I have only recently discovered your channel and I must say it’s great. Very informative and interesting and also your thoughts on music production, equipment, exposure etc reflects my own thoughts exactly.. I’ve been making electronic music since 1977 and still love every minute of it but apart from my family and myself no one else has heard it as I do it for my enjoyment and possibly my sanity. I am slowly working my through your back catalog of UA-cam videos and am really enjoying them. One question, what name is your music available in Spotify. Cheers Glyn.
Hi Glyn, those are very kind words…thank you! My music is on Spotify/Apple Music/BandCamp under my given name “Luke Stark”. What about yourself? Where do you publish your music? I’d love to hear some.
Hi Luke, thanks for the info mate, I will check it out shortly. I’ve never put my work out into the outside world mate, its purely self indulgent, I might one day as people like yourself, Gary Hayes, Grimpee etc have made me realise it might not be such a bad thing. Cheers Glyn.
The "Tascam 16x08" is not bad also. I have one and I love it. 16 audio channels IN - 8 audio channels OUT - 1 standard DIN MIDI IN and 1 MIDI OUT ports - ASIO USB sound card interface. $374.99 on Sweetwater.
Dear Mr. Seeker, the more Berlin school videos you make the more I’m just going to watch and watch and watch. Thanks for all your hard work. I really do like the modular hardware you are doing lately since I’m a Neutron/small case hardware user.
The room pulses with the resounding aura of the Matriarch, her essence intricately entwined in a bass melody that reverberates through the very fabric of space and time. A giant hand delicately navigates the sonic landscape, its touch a masterful caress on the strings of creativity. The sequencer assumes the role of a celestial choreographer, guiding a dance of notes that gracefully weaves through the ethereal realm of sound, casting a spell that echoes in every corner of the artistic cosmos. Together, the Matriarch, the giant hand, and the sequencer create a harmonious convergence, sculpting a musical experience that transcends the ordinary. Thank you luke!
I just found and subscribed to your channel. I’m experimenting with Berlin School in Ableton Suite and wondering if you have any simple ways of injecting occasional snippets of ratcheting, or if you already have a video that discusses this. Thanks for your content!
In suite check out the note-repeat midi device or the beat-repeat audio device. Both are good options for making ratchets. I’ll try to do a video showing how. :)
Thanks for the idea to do Jam-uary. I'm really going to try to commit to this, even if I produce absolute rubbish. I'll send you a link to my Soundcloud in January in case your ears need more torture.
Hours of fun :) I brought an Behringer X32 rack 8 years ago for running all the synth rack models via a patchbay and its been and still is great. Its also class compliant USB audio and can use its own ASIO drivers. Can give you 32 channels in and out over USB. Can use it in many different ways, works well with VST FX's on a host laptop as well so you can get the best of both worlds at the same time. Just picked up a X-Live card for it which allows you to record 32 channels directly on SD cards. So it turns it into a hard disk recorder, with some limitations. That Ableton link clocking module is funky. Got it on the Akai Force here but not really made use of it yet.
I have tested it at Knobcon, jamming with a fellow who brought a “Force” and it worked fine. They’re pretty neat and the Force was a useful tool as well!
@@synthseeker I'm on the fence still after 3 years of owning a Force. It looked like the near perfect standalone unit (even before the firmware updates over those years) but in use i find it frustrating to use. Its still a half baked product for my use. I guess that's what happens when the marketing dept drives the software dept.... But i can load up my old Akai sampler libraries with it and I'll keep it around for now in never ending hope the next update will improve things...
@@synthseeker Alas, most of the recent releases have been underwhelming - and I made videos about them! 😊 No idea what's coming up but I'm limited in what I can use (eyes) but hoping for some interesting stuff from Behringer. Sometime. Eventually 😊 I have a silly number of soft synths so I'm hoping black friday won't be a temptation 😢
depends on the synth, in the modular a clock multiplier and a secondary sequencer can be used to add ratchets ( check out @GaryHayes - he does amazingly fluid ratchets). the sequencers I'm using in the modular have ratchet functionality, I'll try to use some tonight.
Absolutely entertaining and instructional. Both the WiFi clock synchronizer and the Metropolix are on my radar....but the bassline harmonization is what truly makes Berlin School so unique. Klaus Schilze in his sequences was one of the masters of that together with Edgar Froese...
The simple steps shown here have no right to lead to such a great sound! Also, I held my breath for almost 20 minutes, anticipating the rack to drop down into oblivion. You really know how to capture an audience :)
Grazie veramente grazie ancora. Il video è fantastico e molto di base. Sto imparando moltissime cose rimaste sempre oscure. 🙏❤️
Sono molto felice che ti piacciano le cose che condivido. Sii sano e fai bella musica!
Hopefully the missing link finds some company to keep warm as winter approaches.
The TR-8s most likely. :)

I’m on a bit of a modular kick from now through January. ;) buckle up!

Lol ! “The Giant Hand” is going to be a song title I think. Thank you.
Re-Harmonizing...
Another thing i learned i loved from TD. Ratcheting was another technique.
Nice.
Ratcheting is on the list for the next video ;)

I’ll do the same for you lol! Mine might be terrible!

nice ! I love my Metropolix...so powerful .
Same here, time will make it so that I understand it more.
I only own modular in software form - MiRack and Audulus 4 - but your stuff provides ideas to help me expand my use and knowledge of those…
Don’t buy into it!
I'm lucky with retirement I don’t have the $ anymore lol ... I'm safe @@synthseeker
Great channel you've got here!
I hope it’s useful! ;) welcome!
Hey Luke - neat tip. Sounds great. Will have to experiment with that 👍
Thanks Ian! I’ll go sniff around your channel for the most recent videos … anything coming up that you’re excited about, synth-wise?

…is your modular rack set up and just resting on two laptop stands??
Yes! Good catch! I needed to elevate it and they work/are surprisingly stable.
I have a couple myself, they are solid… but I’m amazed the rack doesn’t tilt off level every time you plug or poke something!
The enclosure is over-built and quite heavy so that may be why it’s stable…but I may change thing around. :)
how would you add ratcheting to your rig?

looking forward to more sequencer videos, esp. metropolix - can't wait!
Coming this week probably…
Pretty damn awesome Luke... Very inspiring, on so many levels 🙂👍
You’re inspiring ME, I haven’t even tried to drone yet. Need another Osc for that. :)
That was really nice. I think that simple no frills honey sweet bass is the 'Matriarch' sound.
I do love the Matriarch, but like all synths it has some gaps…I wish it had a step sequencer similar to the Sub37s…
Great vid! I played bass and sang lower voice parts for decades so reharmonization is second nature to me. Nice to see it in this context
I'm no expert, but it works for me and I was primarily a bass player for many years...so there may be some history there. :)
Gorgeous tones & sequence, excellent tutorial !
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. :)

It’s rock solid. I’ll demonstrate in the future. :)
