I am a troubled person diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and PTSD. I was regularly abused physically and mentally and sometimes sexually, either. This drama series showed me some ways out if that craziness. It helped me a lot to fight against bad people and my inner demons, too.
Such a powerful show! Everyone is diagnosing narcissist or borderline.... this illness needs more awareness and hopefully heal the victims who are probably so confused by what they have experienced.
Not true, you can try with therapy. It’s called integration, and sure not everyone wants to integrate their alters into one, but that is the best way to heal a DID/OSDD system
@@lalaloodeedoo Integration is a decision that can be made by a system but it isn't right for everyone. They may not be able to function as a fully integrated individual as well as they can as a system, and certain alters may not want to integrate regardless of what people think they "should" do. DID/OSDD is a permanent disorder and you can't just get rid of it, even though integration. "Healing" it means dealing with trauma and getting to a state where you can all function and be happy, not erasing your whole system
Could you imagine being a classmate watching 1 lady having 8 conversations writing all over the place. How long did that take a full hour non-stop??? At some point the class got waved away by the teacher. "Just back away slowly and get out all of you"
The TV series was come to home for me, she did a real good job. I just loved how the professor finally got to see the whole thing. I wonder what would happen if Toni revisited this role but years later I mean we all know that she went away to get help, but somehow I think there could of been more though I do not feel that feeling anymore like I use to I know I still have one wanting to play hide and seek once in a while. Toni Helped me understand I wasn't completely insane that came later on in my life when things and blanks in time came back to haunt me. D.I.D is something that is serious and their are many out there that do not believe that it exists, but when you lose track of time or do something that hurts someone else and you don't remember doing it, it can get very scary.
I never saw this show until now. I loved it but I sometimes wonder if the show didn't get another season because of the way the handled the whole Bryce character.
Nearly 3 mineuts taken from me that i am thankful for. My aunt had some problems with Multi-personality disorder and this made my heart go out to her and everyone else. Including my first g/f that suffered with Schizophrenia. T.Y.
This might sound stupid, but ever since they took this show off of Netflix I’ve been so bummed not only because I love the show but because I can’t watch this awesome scene! And I’ve been having a really bad few weeks so to find this just made my day 🙂
I have this condition and its good someone actually made this to really explain it without it looking like the condition actually is to harm someone when it doesn't
Why wouldn't Toni's name be in the description of this clip?? She is a gem!! Totally Up there with Merrill Streep!!!. Also up there with impressive acting multiple parts/ personalities in the same film: Tatiana Maslani in Orchid Black!!! Then there's Eddie Murphy in his films...
MoBelGurl2288 i hate when people say it's on Netflix like its no problem. it gets my hopes up! different countries have different Netflix catalogues people! America gets all the good stuff, the UK Netflix is not nearly as good. i dont think United States of Tara was even shown on tv here.
loved this scene as well when i watched it. You are not crazy Tara, you are ill because of your trauma! And I liked this more bc this teacher did not trust about this illness as real. He said those patients were pretending, and then... he saw this live, by himself, happening for real in front of his eyes. Good. So, i would have liked more, tbh, writers letting her to say "im sick", instead of "im crazy"... or the teacher replying it to her. my poor one.
NEVER SEEN THIS SHOW TILL JUST RIGHT THIS MOMENT HOW COOL IT IS TO BE A LITTLE CRAZY AND STILL LOVE UR SELF' THANK THW LORD HE ACCEPTS OF JUST LIKE WE ARE. YES I SPELLED THE WRONG . GOT LOVE IT, SMELL ALL PICK NONE
I have DID and this show really negatively impacted my life, it claims to be a good representation of what having multiple personalities but it was really inaccurate and hurtful.
I don't understand how someone can not make an interesting tv show about DID, I mean the questions of personal identity it poses, contrasted upon the contemporary liberal push for more varied and appropriate means of personal experience, It is not exactly hard to imagine some thought-provoking content using such dynamics.
Worst portrayal of DID, ever. Keep in mind I adore her previous acting gigs, but I loathe the director's vision for this show. She's still talented and showed how diverse she could be with the alters (accents/posture/physical mannerisms), but the show itself...the premise...the lack of research...it's fucking sad.
I agree some basic research is lacking -- for example there's no magic pill to keep symptoms at bay & in my experience DID folk don't regularly and so specifically change their clothing/makeup etc. episodes can happen at any time, anywhere, usually triggered by some sort of intolerable stress. you're pretty much wearing what ur wearing. perhaps u might change clothes DURING an episode if ur at home & able to. i guess they wrote it this way to illustrate how the alters see themselves. some things they get right: the shame. the difficulties for all, the losing time. i forgave most of what i saw as inaccurate because toni collette is awesome. but it's a guilty pleasure for me. i hv not told clients about it, they might not appreciate it.
@@steelethescene We have alters that will absolutely change into clothes they prefer if we're at home, but yeah no... It's not as incredibly drastic as this show depicted. The first time Raymond fronted he changed into a turtleneck and slacks because of how proper he is, and one of the littles has sensory issues and regularly rip off clothes if they don't like the texture, but that's pretty much it.
How is this anyone's favourite scene that is not a healthy way to deal with issues within your system I'm *screaming* Declaring yourself "dictator" and referring to it as your own life rather than acknowledging other alters??? That's not what a good host/core/whatever does! It's about communicating! And figuring out what you ALL want to do with your SHARED life!!! And Tara referring to herself as crazy just feels like a stab to the chest honestly. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHY DO PEOPLE STILL WATCH THIS SHOW -Connor
Her acting is top notch. In the show, it took almost 3 seasons for her to get to this point. And she had been dealing with DID for 18 years previously. Her system was running rampant, ruining relationships, causing her professor who "didn't believe in the disorder" to bring her to the center of attention to embarrass her. She very politely asked him to lay off her, because stress and panic brings out alters. At this point in the show, we'd seen how much help they could be, but they're certainly not without faults. Tara was never portrayed as a perfect person. Just someone who wants to learn about herself and her alters. She was getting pressure from everyone in her life, and just hit a wall. This was literally a last ditch effort to find a common ground with them. For the alters, she has a child, a sexist-homophobic-violent Vietnam vet, a therapist, a 50's housewife, a rampant promiscuous teenager, an Id (running on animalistic instincts) and a sociopath. The annoying teenager was the one saying mean things, and getting bitten by the Id, Gimme. The vet was the one Tara mocked "well it ain't" And the therapist and Tara have a tenuous relationship, because while she helped Tara understand a lot, she slept with Tara's husband. With permission, but still felt betrayed, because she felt like she couldn't be enough for her husband. This complicated story unfolded beautifully and everyone loves this scene, because it not only shows how great an actress she is, but also, because the system was finally starting to act as one unit. The wording may not have been to your liking, but this show was not made for people who have DID. It was made for a wide audience. And the majority of the audience understood how it got to this point, and given how unruly some of them were, it was a necessary event. If you watched the show, instead of a single clip, you'd probably understand much better.
Wtf? This is my first encounter with this show and this is garbage. A minute in and I'm already offended by the portrayal. Tara has no fucking right to verbally assault her alters like that and say they don't have a right to a real life like her. Why are they so mean to each other? Alters don't act like this in real life. Normally they're a lot more protective of each other, even if they don't seem as nice about it always. Like, why are some of the alters kicking the littles? Showing people with DID as being child abusers is disgusting, especially taking into account that people with DID have all been abused as children.
I will say, we do have someone in our system that would willingly kick some of the littles, but he also has severe anger issues. I agree it's a horrible depiction though. - Harry

This scene is so great :) Love seeing all the tribe together. And Gimme chewing on the pen gets me every time!
