Ed is his Father. She didn't sign up for this, but she still takes wonderful care. She cooks for him, washes his clothes and shares the load. Not easy. I'm sure they both need a break.
She isn't mean love , I take care of a dementia woman at times u have to be a little stern for them to fallow directions trust me if she was mean he wouldn't mention her name so often, it isn't easy
As a daughter who took care of both parents who had dementia, these two are doing their very best. Until you take care of a parent with this, you have no idea how difficult, how tiring, how emotionally draining it is. ❤
@@mrsdsalnorcalI noticed the gate & thought it was a great idea after seeing you coming down to find him wandering around in the middle of the night. Keeps him safe ❤
I was a CNA for over 25 years mostly in memory care Danielle is not being mean or rude. Effectively communicating with someone with dementia sounds different for each patient. Some you have to give simple, firm direction and not let them get distracted with things like the treadmill in the hallway. If she didn’t use a firm voice and redirected to him to the task of getting dressed they would have been at it for an hour. You have to remember how hard it is to be a caregiver at home with a loved one with dementia. It’s physically and emotionally draining. I am a professional and I still would still sometimes get frustrated and I got to go home at the end of my shift. Danielle doesn’t get to clock out give her a break.
why i find her ... being .. i don't know.. rude?.. no... i don't know... something about her attitude... seems like, she had enough... or she's guetting tired about the situation... i don't know... i am probably wrong..!
No not at all...the Salingers are giving care giving at home to us straight as it is...having had a similar situation with my mother but much shorter time this is reality...Danielle and Dan and family are letting us in to a deeply affectionate part of living...complete setting aside of their life..for another....it's ok..keep watching tho...
Also, Ed himself thinks a lot of Danielle. I think she worked for him in his office and that’s how she met Dan. And I guess that’s the most important thing, how Ed feels about it. He seems to take the knocks and not feel too bad about it, but I can’t help but think his self image would be better (even if he didn’t remember it for long) if she was respectful and more patient with him.
While some of us might feel a bit uncomfortable, I can tell you absolutely, positively, he is so much better off than he would be in one of today’s nursing homes or Alzheimer’s units! Staff may treat family members decently, but most times they are different with actual patients when no family is around. Especially one with dementia that may be deemed unreliable if they complain. I’m so thankful for what they are doing, yet have to admit my heart goes out to Ed because I can imagine how it feels to have lost almost everything about your independence or personal choices, and not to understand or remember the details about it, then on top of it, feel everything you do or think, is wrong. We are all different, they have their way, we have ours and it’s human nature to find fault with each other. I’m truly thankful for Ed that they love and care about him and do the best they can for him in their own family home.
He has Dementia. Sort of like a toddler at times. My 3-year-old granddaughter does the same thing when I'm taking her somewhere she will stop and look at everything
It's extraordinary to care one's own elderly parents these days, so I would imagine it's even more so to care for one's parents in law. So refrain from judging. She doesn't have to prove herself to anyone, it's her own self honesty, only she knows the truth, and it needs no proof or validation.
CERTAINLY NOT. YOU HAVE TO MAUNTAIN THEIR OWN INDEPENDENCE. You xannot take it away frim the. Their cognitive has diminished hence you as the careguver must keep it real. I think Danielle is doing all she can as his daughter in law. Give her credir🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
