You watch him on anything, but particularly panel shows like QI or 8oo10CdC or the Last Leg, and it's his ability to time every single one of his outbursts to the absolute second that makes them so very funny.
He seems like a surreal dysfunctional version of the wee fat guy from Abbott & Costello the 1940s/50s comedy movie duo. Amd he works the look like a well oiled instrument. Fearlessness and yet vulnerability. Explosive combination. Belly laugh material every time.

The completeness of his honesty, fragility, darkness and light make me laugh, shed a tear and think deeply all at the same time, in waves and waves. All as it should be. An absolute comic genius and you just know that the world will not protect him and he'll end up in harm's way and that's what make you treasure him even more.

i saw johnney years ago in Edinburgh at "late & live" it didn't start until midnight and nobody remembers when it ended. It was a bear pit for comics with heckles expected. I so remeber Johnny becaue of the hush. We genuinly didn't know if this was his act or he was having a full on breakdown on stage. Thankfully it was his act, i think, and he won the crowd over by being hilarious.

Back when Johnny was a loose cannon. I remember seeing him on a talk show. (Johnathon Ross I think) saying he sold his wedding photos to viz magazine for £1 and that he still hadn’t got it😂. He’s a lot more sober and calm these days though!
That young guy was SHITTIN BRICKS on the way to collect that award. Certainly got taught what comedy really is and put in his place. He couldn't wait to make his escape. Actors need scripts. A real comedian just needs an opportunity when there's no gaffer tape over their mouths.
