    Enjoyed the video fellas. Aaron’s a great guy. Nice to hear someone on your show speak a bit about what goes on at SCV, which he did very well!

    I credit Aaron's teaching to 70-80% of the reason I was able to earn a spot at SCV. Great video, and well spoken!

    As someone who wants to eventually join SCV on quads, this video was actually pretty helpful. Especially because I currently live in Germany, and it's not easy to attend one of their camps.

    As a golfer and someone who marched snare in highschool, the technique conversation has a multitude of philosophical similarities between the two worlds, such as, is it more important to achieve perfect static positions or to prioritize the way you move between and around them?
    Generally I think if the goal is to be as consistent as possible, you would want to simplify the motion down to its most basic and linear form, mitigating as many variables as possible. Bryson Dechambeau is known for doing this in the golfing world, and he happens to get a lot of hate for it, as it challenges conventional wisdom. I feel marching percussion is very similar to golf in that when splitting hairs at the highest level, it comes down to the fact that everybody’s good is good, but how good is your bad?

      Good point. I also love how nerdy Bryson is about the physics of the game. Using that to weed out variables as well.

    I love how he leads the question to them to help them shape their minds around the concepts SCV reinforces. There is great information about the actual purpose of percussion and its impact for the ensemble. I’m speaking a little exaggerated here, but rather than other groups who make the music to win or gain points (exaggerating this idea). He emphasizes the point of making and communicating the music for the purpose of the music, and like stated earlier, the best way to communicate those ideas is to play them the cleanest and the best, instead of thinking what content will help us win.

      For the sake of comparison, which groups make music for points/to win?

      @@MichaelRMcKenna It’s a general comment from World Class groups I have personally marched, to many anecdotes of close friends at their respective world class groups as well. Having full music changes to the show right before the end of the season just because it really doesn’t earn enough points without regard to what the actual art they are creating is trying to say. There is a fine line designers and staff walk when challenging the question “is it truly a design issue or is something else at play here” and they do their best getting feedback from judges to handle these design comments. But the staff who do these changes with the judge and a number in mind, fail to recognize that most of the time it isn’t the part that is failing to be delivered in an effective way, it’s the way it’s executed and preformed. Drastic and numerous changes at younger, inexperienced corps nearing the end of a season is very common with the goal of scoring higher, and more trust should be placed on performers to execute their show instead of praying the designers make it make sense for them. I’m sure many people who have marched can relate to this sentiment.

    Love how they put so much attention on musicality and not just technical stuff in what they do....that is a rare thing to see in many groups....scv found a great balance of the two

    Aaron is AWESOME!!! Great insight. The kids were lucky to have him.
    I do wonder why you two fellas don’t reach out to Sandi and Paul and do a FULL ensemble video? I guess it would probably blow up the site??? Cause problems in the ecosystem 😂

    Did we ever figure out if the “stave shell” snare drums were a thing or not from dynasty??

    • @SgtHulka95
      @SgtHulka95 Місяць тому +2

      Yes! When Aaron confirmed red chrome and not powder coating I was hoping he'd talk about the stave shells Dynasty teased in the caption when the new drums arrived. Perhaps as a prototype they don't want to say too much yet.
