    As a Brit myself, I offer my most sincere apologies to all Polish people. You were a vital and courageous fighting force without which the Nazis would have won the war.. You where very badly treated post WW2 by the Brits and Americans, it disgusts me. I love the Poles for their endeavor and tenacity in WW2 . god bless you all

      You people are nuts. The US never treated Poland horribly and never 'sold them out.' Did you really expect the allies to go to war with the soviets? Thats how we sold them out? By not continuing the war? It isnt our fault Poland lies between Berlin and Moscow, please.

    • @sotogremble953
      @sotogremble953 5 років тому

      Nope. Ive never heard an ill word spoken about poles and ive lived in 2 countries (US/Canada) and about 6 u.s. states. In canada had several polish friends. Youre a whiny apologist, for something that didn't happen. Not where i lived, speak for yourself or the UK. This "on behalf" business is a bit pretentious. This youre uninformed bit doesnt work either. You havent bothered to explain what these terrible wrongs were supposed to be. Dont call on europeans and poles for help! I dont need to ask them. You accused Americans buttwipe now back it up with something other than a snivelling appeal to others.

      @joe jitsu seriously? it was the brits.. the declared war on germany for invading poland but not on russia for the same deed at the same time and Roosevelt died before the end of the war so he had no part in the second betrayal

      Yep, i knew it. Pointing fingers at allies while ignoring the 3rd party at Yalta. I guess you fools think the u.s. and england could have persuaded Stalin otherwise. Russia didnt need anyones help pushing that border all the way to Berlin. And he certainly wasn't afraid of either party. Whatever was said or unsaid at Yalta isnt terribly relevant.

      I don't think we, America, sold out the Polish. You forget how much this country is made up of Polish immigrants and descendants. Roosevelt was not a socialist. The man was elected 4 times, and served 3 terms in our democracy. He did a heck of a lot for my country. The fact is, a lot of people resent America because of our prowess and how much people rely on us. As for the Soviets, the British were pretty much alone and couldn't take down the USSR. Even when we and others joined in, we were exhausted and war weary, and we, the USA, took it on the nose in the Pacific, where we lost most of our guys and gals.
      Tactically speaking, we couldn't cover that much ground and hold it. The basic thing is, when it comes to the USA, we are called upon a lot more than others. It is a mixture of jealousy, resentment, and a lack of understanding of why we are a great nation, despite our past transgressions. And one thing also must be remembered: If America is so terrible, then why are people coming here seeking a better life? Why is there a waiting list to get inside and start making a better life? Hardly any other country is sought by so many to come and reside in.

    The thing about the Germans "thinking in straight lines" is still pretty true today. As a Brit living in Germany for 30 years I can assure you that irony and sarcasm don't play well here because they tend to take what you say at face value. I was once asked why I left England to live here and flippantly replied (with a straight face) "I killed a couple of guys and had to get out of the country fast". Two weeks later someone ELSE asked me, in all seriousness, if it was true!
    The best description of the German people I ever heard was: "The Germans love spontaneity - as long as they know it's coming"

    If only we had brave men today, like these wonderful heroes. And how these men would be ashamed, if they could see, what the politicians of today are doing to the country and continent they helped save, during the dark days of WW2. These politicians are, in fact, throwing the achievements of these heroes back in their faces, as worthless. Otherwise they would be doing all they can to retain the country so many risked - or, indeed, sacrificed - their lives to protect.

      Trixie Trueblood You missed the entire point of the show. It ends with “He didn’t know his own courage until he found it in war.” We’re luck that the war the “Greatest Generation” fought among the world order they set up after it has not require the same courageous sacrifice of that era. But that does not mean there are many Today who could do just the same if required.

    This excellent series really takes a condescending view of "Treasure" or Lily Sergeuiew, calling her dangerous and unstable. She did a lot more than collect chicken feed! Where did McIntyre get this information? True, she was angry that her dog was not returned to her. She had a temporary kind of breakdown there; but so did the male spies, who took terrible risks. Lily she was also paid a real pittance, far less than the other spies whom the British courted. Then, the British charged her rent. The men, meanwhile, were paid handsomely. A more nuanced view can be found on various places,, and the more I learn about this brave woman, the more I dislike this terrible and sexist portrait of her.

People who rely on videos and quick google searches gleaned very little from history (though they comment as if they’re experts). Well done yours. Mike Summers-Smith _____ No one knows if he 'worked' for the Germans or not. The actual truth was that many agents 'worked' for both sides. They had to, to stay alive. As long as the British, or Germans believed, on balance, that an agent to be worth more than they were costing them they kept them and didn't look to closely at their modus operandi in the field. It was a very dirty business - still is.

      75,000 American troops landed in D Day; out of a total of more than 150,000 Allied troops. The whole operation was led by the brilliant General Dwight D. Eisenhower, an American. But this British production barely mentions the tremendous sacrifice of these men, along with Canadians, Australians, etc. It's understandable that the English should take pride in this production, but it's ludicrous to devote nothing more than a sentence or two to the contributions all of the Allies made...along with the loss of life. Not one word about the Russians who lost so many lives.
