You can get the bare LEDs in bulk from eBay if you search for "100pcs 5mm RGB fast flash" If you want the ones with domes instead of lenses add "straw hat" to the search. For the slow colour changing effect LEDs swap the word "fast" for "slow".
If you wanted to run the LEDs from a 5V USB power supply you could add a couple of 10 ohm quarter watt resistors in series.
