I have a 72 SS 396 Camaro, factory 4 speed, non air car. The one in the video is quite nice. I also have the cowl hood but it is not stock. The VIN on my car is quite late in the production as the Norwood strike start April 7. My car was build last week of Feb/first week of March in 1972. Have only found 3 other SS396 1972 Camaros with higher VIN numbers so far. GMs records are either nonexistent or a mess. Love these beasts!! Truly the fastest thing I have ever owned from gas pump to gas pump!!!
I know they whacked H.P. on a 396 by 1972, the paint and color is spot on, it looks like it was dipped, somebody knows how to paint for sure. In my teens, early 80`s, there was a 70 Camaro, Hugger Orange, black stripes named Sassy on the rear spoiler, the Chargers, Cudas, Chevelles could not even touch that car, it think it was a 454 car. By far it was the fastest car in our neighborhood, my buddy had a 440, 6 pack Charger, and we couldn`t touch that Camaro, the guy took off the engine call outs, so we never knew what he was running, and he never shared. We cruised Gratiot every weekend, about 30 minutes north of Detroit, that Camaro brings back some memories guys, it looks stunning, I love the rallyes, take care.
Love the cloth seats on these. 396 is such a great overall engine for camaros like this PLenty of torque last a long time easy to fix. I want to reach through my monitor and cut out the back of that cowl to get more air in lol
A SUGGESTION GUYS. PLEASE START OPENING THE TRUNK FOR A LOOK SEE. ANOTHER SUGGESTION. REMOVE THE WORD SH1T FROM START OF VIDEO. DOESN'T BOTHER ME, BUT SOME FOLKS WILL JUST LEAVE VIDEO BECAUSE OF IT. JUST SAYING GUYS. A FEW MORE SUGGESTION COMING. FREE OF CHARGE. THANKS AGAIN. VERY NICE SS BB. 17TH TEXAS DIVISION
It's a great car, for sure, but I guess I'm too old for it. I'm so used to these cars everywhere back in the day with flat hoods, I just can't un-see that now.
Dont like the hood either. Not a great copy of the cowl scoop...id def open up the rear of it and seal the air cleaner to the hood otherwise why have it At least he didnt try to make a fake rs out of it
Not a 396.Its the LS3 402,and that's what the engine was finally correctly referred to as starting in 1971.1972 last year of the bb Camaro, and production numbers were low for a bb Camaro.Pretty rare .
As someone that lived through those times, big block second gen Camaros were extremely rare. Z28's were much more common. Probably why the price is so high. We knew the 396 was .30 over(402) starting in '70. We still called them 396's.
"basket handle shifter"?!? Y'all down south call staple shifters some crazy names, even heard y'all call the horseshoe shifters too🙃😂🤷♂️ Never seen a horse with square hooves😅
Sweet car. A very good friend has a 72' SS 396 4 Spd Numbers matching. I believe there were only 249 made in 72' with the 4 Spd. He has the big rectangular port heads on it but he does have original casting heads for it. Other than an upgrade to 16" tires it is basically original. Super sweet ride. The strike at Chevy was the main reason for low production numbers. I don.t believe the cowl hood is original....
Almost bought a '71 396. The SS396 alot less money than the Z package, was rated at 300 HP but had more torque than the Z28 and came with 3.42 gears. Supposedly they only built 600 SS396 Camaros and only 200 we're 4SP manual transmissions
IMO, the split bumper looks better. Along with the original rally wheels. Are you sure that Cowl Hoods original, too? Just a suggestion, include some footage of the underneath as well.
@@skxjwith the bigger motor, rs was a visual package and ss and z28 were performance packages. You could not get a car with two performance packages like a ss z28 but you could get a rs ss or a rs z28
@@johnie19644 that's right, my point is the split bumper option came only with the RS package whether you ordered an RS , an RS/SS or an RS/Z28 these cars would all have the split bumper. If you ordered an SS or a Z28 you would get the full width front bumper.
Not worth 60 grand When they take 4 minutes to let you know its a boring automatic transmission I'll offer 39 thousand Tops That All it Really worth boys
While a gorgeous car, not even remotely fast, my 2012 v6 Camaro probably keeps up, definitely slower than my 2013 zl1, good luck with Smokin" matching numbers " nothing desirable about this car

My 70 z had the stock hood
Always thought the cowl should be carried over to the 2nd Gen, or maybe the stinger hood Love cold air induction

ONLY 240 HP rating for the '72 SS396 in this car...

Guys that decade pulled the BB out and in went small blocks, 2 bbl carbs and maybe an Isky supercam or Elgin RV cam.
Love to know what that paint color is. For sure a sweet tweak on Hugger Orange, looks to have some pearl in it..
You just don't see these. Color combo sweet. All around super nice.
It really is!

End of 396 engine at the end of 1970 production year. How can numbers match on this ‘72?
402s...basically the same engine, 396
Well this looks like another one of the better ones you have I wish I had 60 Grand I would love to have it
That engine wont last long, already smoking.
Bad rings sounds flat too
If it's bad rings it would have blue smoke. It's probably colder outside so the condensation in the exaust system
No.... blue smoke running on the road. It's the rings
If the rings were bad there would be no compression and there would be burning oil.
He Said it was 30° & I saw No Blue Smoke
Change the piston rings and throw a good carb on it then it'll be good to go
Qjet and a curved HEI. I dont trust aftermarket efi to even be a fraction as reliable as oem. Can say Ive never had a carbd camaro leave me stranded.

Had a 70 Z and while it was a great package these Camaros were a little heavy.
A big block is perfect in this case. Nothing like that low end grunt!

Split bumper cars were RS option, the SS got the full bumper, If you ordered an RS/SS you would get the split bumper.
Cowl hoods were NEVER offered as a factory option on a 2nd generation Camero

Hood is aftermarket they were all flat when new.
That's one sweet bow tie...
How much is it please
Yes it will😅
i had one but was a 402 BB
This one should measure out to 402 if it is the original engine.
SAme thing, 396/402
Surrr Surrrr Surrrrrrrr!!!!!
Nice but automatic transmission. Bleh LOL

Why the engine sound like that 👀👀
Let er rip😁
SWEET
Love these cars but to be honest Pontiac shit all over Chevrolet’s head year after year
Only bummer is that it's an auto 😢 Who orders a big block with an automatic?!? Baffling 😵💫
