This is called Million Dollar Pie in TN... Possum Pie is from Arkansas and has either a cream cheese or vanilla custard layer followed by a chocolate custard layer and topped with whipped cream in a pecan shortbread crust. Topped with chopped pecans. It is to die for. It's my family's favorite.
That’s the possum pie we make too. It’s occasionally called chocolate delight here.
You got me on the name....We call it "All Occasional Pie" ...same ingredients, except we drain the crushed pineapple....and top it with a few sliced Merichino cherries and shaved pecans....so delicious!!!
Yes Paula, you can freeze this pie and it's delicious that way! I have been making this pie for years and I make it the same way but I add sweetened flake coconut to mine..then I cover the top with coconut...then stick it in the freezer... delicious!!! Little did I know I had been making Possum Pie all these years 😆

You can freeze it. My niece has made this for years, but calls it something else. It's quick and easy.
I am going to make this...and add coconut! YUM. I think it will turn out similar to Hagan Daz pineapple coconut Ice cream...which I love! Too funny when Michael said "Possum?"...lol. Hope ya'll have a great week and God bless!

Frozen is how I grew up eating it, only it was called a "make one, take one" pie :0) My mom's recipe was enough for two pies...thus the "make one, take one" name :0) It was my cousin's favorite pie and my mom would always make it for her when she came for a visit. Fond memories :0) Frozen is the way to go!

When I read opossum pie, I thought you were going to use opossum in a pie. I thought WHAT, no way. Dad ate a real opossum once and only once. Your opossum pie sounds good and, rats, fattening.

I make a dessert similar to this except there's no sweetened condensed milk. I make a vanilla wafer crust reserving just 1/3cup of it for sprinkling on top then I make a glaze w/1/2 cup powdered sugar & 5 or so Tablespoons of milk w/ 1/2tsp. vanilla. Then I use 2 reg. tubs of cool whip & I mix in 2-15oz cans of crushed pineapple that's been drained & almost all juice squeezed out of it. Spread the glaze on top of the vanilla wafer crust then top w/cool whip pineapple mixture & sprinkle w/remaining 1/3cup of crushed wafers. Nuts are optional. I like nuts but I don't care for them in this recipe so I leave them out. To make the crust it's just one box of Vanilla Wafers crushed up w/1 stick of melted butter added. The name of this recipe is Russian Scuffle. Of course refrigerate it for at least 4hrs if not over night before serving.
Hmm :( the video is good but the recipe sounds WAY WAY WAY to sweet. Whipped topping is sweet, canned pineapple(is super sweet) sweetend condensed milk(although I understand why it's needed) to firm up the pie is SUPER sweet :( If you adapt and use homemade UNSWEETEND whipped cream, canned pineapple and Coconut cream, i think it would be AMAZING.

My possum pie don't have no sweetened condensed milk.
It has sweetened whipped cream with powdered sugar and vanilla, chunk pineapple without the juice and pecans.
