    Lemon is my absolute favorite flavor. When we were stationed in Japan back in the mid 80's, the wives of the command put together a cookbook. Before the release we had a party and to celebrate and we brought one of the dishes that we submitted to the cookbook. One of the girls brought Lemon Lush and it became a huge favorite for many of us. It's so light and fresh and wonderful on a hot summer day.

    Well hot diggity dog! This is what we always called "Heavenly Desert." I got it as a young married woman from an OLD church cookbook of my mom's. However, it says you can use different nuts in the crust, not just pecans, (i always have walnuts around) and different pudding flavors. My kids preferred chocolate, with chocolate shavings to dress it up, but banana was also divine, with banana slices in the pudding. It is a fabulous recipe!, and Lemon is certainly a winner, but try it with some different flavors as well! :-)

Bake until golden brown, then remove from oven and crumble it with a fork. Let it cool and crumble with hands. Top with your cream cheese mixture, then cherry pie filling, then whip cream. I shave some walnuts real fine and sprinkle onto of whip cream. Note* the walnuts get toasted when baking because they’re on top. The crust is so tasty!!!

    Hi, Tammy-I just found you. I see some binge-watching in the near future! The thing about using real whipping cream...you'll need to add some unflavored Knox gelatin (dissolved and completely cooled) to the whipping cream as you whip it. If you try to use just plain whipping cream, it just doesn't hold up, especially on warm days. The gelatin is undetectable but is the difference between a pretty, tasty presentation and whipped cream soup!

We don't have Cool Whip in the UK so cream in a squirty aerosol can is the only alternative (which will not hold up) but if you traditionally whip cream and put it in a piping bag, it definitely holds the shape for a week. I have a similar recipe called Lemon Lust. I use melted butter to mix with the flour and pecans (toasted) as it mixes better. I don't use lemon juice or zest but I might try that next time. I also only use one small box of lemon pudding even though it asks for one large box. It works because my 8" by 8" pan is not very deep. 🍋

    Whipping cream CAN be used for decoration, as a substitute for sugary icing as long as it has been stabilized. Add ¼ -½ c powdered (icing) sugar while beating the cream. You can also use a small box of pudding mix (this is where you can use vanilla, chocolate, even lemon instant pudding depending on what you are making) or 4-8 ounces cream cheese (again, its up to you as to how strong of a cream cheese flavour you'd like), some vanilla and powdered sugar to your taste. I think I'm going to show my downstairs neighbour how to make this for Sunday roast! Thank you for the easy to follow recipe!

    I love lemon desert recopies. Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed watching you just being natural with a healthy sense of humour, and I love when people taste their recipes at the end, kind of completes everything. About using whipping cream instead? Yes why not. While whipping the cream and adding the sugar just add with it one or two teaspoons full of Knox gelatin, it will blend into the whipped cream and help to keep it stiff.Also instead of using a store brand lemon pudding from a package, you can easily make your own on the stove top. Just place in a pot 2 cups mils, add 5 tbl corn starch and lemon zest, whisk it all up , add 3 whole eggs, mix well and keep whisking until it starts to bubble,then remove from heat and cover over with plastic wrap and let it cool before placing it into your dish. God Bless!

    I added vanilla to the crust and I also put chunks of Hershey candy bar in the whip cream
    My husband said the only thing that would make it better would be Hershey’s syrup swirled on top 😋

    My mother grew up on a dairy farm in Washington state, in the 1930s and 40s, and she told me that “dairy states” used to have laws about margarine, to discourage its use, decreeing, for example, that it be sold in its natural white state, with a packet of food coloring included. My mother herself moved towards margarine over the course of her life, from margarine that came in sticks like butter, to soft margarine, in a tub, and on to something in a squeeze bottle that was just a hair away from corn oil.

    • @TrishPatches
      @TrishPatches 2 роки тому

      @@kathyp9112 Easy just like you would do any cream pie ,leave out the eggs whites and put in lemon juice, plus some rind of a lemon, or flavoring, and some yellow food coloring for the color, use no vanilla. Can use eggs will be more of a pudding look, where if you just us Lemon it will give a jell look. . Lemon is the taste you want.

You make everything so real and I'm so glad you didn't cut that out! You have one thing up on me though, I'm used to beaters (2) and I was trying to eject them, boom! All over me! Yes you can make it with home made whip cream I just did I live in Alaska in the bush and I am a long way from the store I had cream but I did not have Cool Whip I just gotta make sure that everything is really cold I make whipped cream in a chopper electric one I just have to make sure that the bowl is really cold and the cream is really cold I put them both in the freezer for a while comes out perfect
    Last time I made this with bananas and banana pudding Because it was faster and I didn’t have enough time to make lemon
    this time lemon 🍋 😱😍

    My mom made a chocolate pudding version of this and it was called "Dream Bars." It was for special occasions only because it was so decadent. Sadly, her coveted recipe was lost in a move. She likely doubled the recipe because it was made in a 9 x 13 pan and the layers were nice and plump. Your lemon lush looks very similar to the ingredients. I think we could trade out the lemon for chocolate. I've also seen a pistachio pudding version (in 3 different hospital cafeterias!) that is delish as well. I love lemon, though, so I think I will try your version. BTW, I think the way that you sprinkled the lemon zest at the end is very appealing because of the asymmetry!

    While camping few years ago, I found that a battery drill (Makita), was the bee's knees! It worked excellent for a quick mixer when a broken wire whip was used in it and the speed was on low. Ever since, I have kept one in the kitchen and use it all the time. Is great for whipping cream and pudding, milk gravy, whipped potatoes and cake mixes, when the electricity goes out! Grandsons love to come to my kitchen and help me out making dinner and they learn to cook! Just think out of the box and keep making those memories!
