Sonny Red is my uncle. I am thankful for this release. My grandfather’s brother was an amazing musician and he inspired me to make music. Thanks for the support! We appreciate it.
Would be fantastic if Blue Note dug up some unreleased material from the Blue Train session (studio or live) to go along with Tone Poet release in a min box set or something, to truly make it special. It was also interesting to hear Joe say the Ornette Box Sets are "all out there" too, which gave me the impression that it will not get repressed. As we know box sets are resource intensive to make, and since Ornette is such a niche market, I wouldn't be surprised if the strategy is different than for other Tone Poets (i.e. "always available"). I could see individual records from the box being reissued... but not the box itself. Appreciate the time you take to prepare and ask great questions, Michael. I hope you'll continue to prioritize bringing in experts on a regular basis, even if means inviting back folks you've already had. We always learn so much!
Given what Joe Harley said about RVG running stereo and mono machines at the same time during ‘57/‘58, I hope that the Blue Trane Tone Poet is both stereo and mono versions.
Since my accident my vinyl purchasing has dropped vastly. Jazz seems to be the thing I've become most particular about. I don't see too many Tone Poets in my near future but I do like all these new pressings. It puts more used LPs in the bins. That's how I ended up with my copy of Shades of Redd, the only used Jazz album I bought since returning from the hospital. I also bought the RSD Miles Davis.
Great interview Micheal. We all learned a lot from it and especially so as you put Joe at ease so he relaxed and shared so much of himself. That’s the mark of an inspired interviewer. Also, I reckon we all loved how much he loved his dog and it was touching to see him lift him up for the camera. Good stuff and Kia kaha from Aotearoa, New Zealand. Ka Pai.
Greetings Michael! Really enjoyed that Joe Harley interview! I was also glad that he intimated there might be a release of the Blue Hour album by Stanley Turrentine and the 3 Sounds. One of the few albums which only got a 331/3 treatment in the Music Matters series. I was however , sad that he did not feel there would be any represses forthcoming of other albums from the MM series. Those were the iconic albums by those musicians and many people still search for those titles.
Thank you Michael for another great Tone Poet video. I played my Copy of the Sonny Red for the first time today. It is superb. The Jackie McClean isn’t available here in the UK until the weekend. I look forward to its arrival! Thanks again
My copy of Sonny Red turned up today. As someone else mentioned, the UK didn't seem to get any copies on release day. I didn't bother with Tippin' The Scales as I don't think I'd play it more that once. I used to get all Tone Poets/Classic Series, now I only buy them if I like them enough to play them more than once
Wow Micheal great video with Joe Harley 👏 great news on Blue Train by John Coltrane will get a special treatment, looking forward to that....I have the Classic records one and an early Japanese reissue from The King company which sounds fantastic....I would like to see Art Blakey Drums Around the Corner....this recording was only issued on CD in 1999 on the Connoisseur series, 8 tunes in total with Lee Morgan, Bobby Timmons, Jamie Merritt, Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Roy Haynes, Ray Barretto, Paul Chambers, recorded Nov.1959 and March 1959, great set !!!....I'm sure Joe has some great music 🎶 coming our way....all the best Michael....Ed in New York....😎☕🎶🎵🎶🥂🎷🎺🥁
Greatly enjoyed your discussion with Joe Harley. Although, I just can’t get into jazz, and I’ve tried many times… But it was very entertaining and informative. So, Thank You very much….
The MMJ Colrane/Blue Train, SRX or not, is in mono and 33.3 only, if I'm not mistaken. So it makes sense if it's on Tone Poet, in stereo, and in 45? Fingers crossed!
I’m contacting a builder to make an extension to the house for the ext few years of Tone Poets 😉 It was really interesting to hear from Joe that no MMJ titles will be TPs (apart from Blue Train), and I guess that means more MMJs in the Classic series......which saves us a few £s at least. And space too!
what blue note is doing is great! and it feels that the only difference between a BN classic and TP is the jacket (and title selection). I’m wondering what optimal did but just looking a the records , it feels different than the early BN 80 and classic. So now between those 2 series we get hundreds of audiophile quality blue note album!!
I over heard Joe talking a couple months back about duke pearson sweet honey bee tape being damaged beyond repair for a reissue and Rush around looking for one and one was for sale at vg+ 40 Bucks and it's a first press !
I enjoyed your Joe Harley interview a great deal. I find it remarkable that, so far, only two sets of tapes are unavailable for remastering. BN has done a wonderful job of preserving their library. However, now when I look at my Blue Train SRX I am thinking about how many records I could buy if I were to sell it off. A thought that was completely unimaginable before Saturday.
I've always meant to ask you, but just havent gotten around to it, but would you be willing to tell us what brand your old and new glasses are? I wear a pair that are very similar to the last pair you had been wearing, but not quite as stylish as them. I'd be very interested to know. Thank you, and I very much enjoy your videos. You're a great benefit to the community, so again, thank you for taking the time to do these videos. Blessings!
@@Michael45RPM Thank you so much! The YSL's were great, but these Henau's are something else. I LOVE the big chunky matte frame. You have great taste all around, sir. :D
Great video! Thanks for the overview of the 2 new releases and the Joe Harley interview. I wonder what the “very special” treatment of Blue Trane will be?
Michael, I went back on this 6 times, hearing you say John Coltrane Blue Train. This will sell out. I will buy two copies of Blue Train. Your production quality with video is outstanding, that background is blown out. Michael that picture is so sharp, I can tell what you are thinking. Those glasses are nice. Michael what mic are you using for your videos. Have you picked up a copy of that 50th Anniversary Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" The Marvin Gaye is very well done. Michael, I buy all of them Tone Poet, Classics it doesn't matter, that Lee Morgan multidisc boxset is pretty much gone. I can't wait until they did deep into Hank Mobley collection. I'm going back to watch that interview with Joe Harley, thank you very much. "Ears Up, Put those Needles in the Groove"
It’s quite infuriating here in the U.K. at present. Out of the blue showed up last weekend but Tippin delayed for a couple weeks. Of course they all show up eventually but for whatever reason(s) they can’t seem to keep it together with the release dates
John Scoffield / Pat Metheny - Tone Poet - is this one you own and if so what are your thoughts - did not find any mention of their album in any of your reviews. Like your approach, comprehensive honest views, and willingness to engage your community.
OH! It just occurred to me... I completely forgot to ask you to pass on this question to Joe Harley: Why did they leave out the two Lonnie Smith originals on Dr. Smith's "All in my Mind"!! One of which is the title track! Shoot, I really wish I knew. Oh well.
My first TP with pops and cracks. Second side only. After some intense washing it is acceptable now. Also my first Sonny Red record. Kind of feelgood Jazz. I like it. My 23rd Tone Poet. I skipped the scales. Sorry Jackie. No must have for me.
Fancy, dancy glasses Michael! The interview was good, but I think you should ask more questions and allow the interviewee to speak more rather than intervening with your opinions so much.

wow thats cool! and thx for the kind words
@@juliosanchez95 you are so right. I forgot music was so obviously objective🙄
@@juliosanchez95 then why are you watching?
@Nick Speed - Really glad to be able to buy these fabulous editions again.
@nickspeed - you uncle is GENIUS....this record is in my top 10 favourite records of all time
Such enthusiasm from our fine German friend! My copy of Jackie McLean is in the mail! Can't wait! Tone Poets forever!
we are truly in the golden age of jazz reissues !

As always a great report and there is news, new glasses.
Even cooler than the old frames, very nice.

I'm looking forward to that Sonny Red album. The supporting case is incredible - Roy Brooks an absolute beast on drums.
Great! I was starting to watch your video and I received my copy of Sonny Red Out Of The Blue!!!! I'll be listening to it tonight.
Hello Michael, Joe was right. The Pat Metheny album Side Eye V1.IV is excellent! A must listen for sure! Thank you for your vinyl world incites!
Please keep these posts coming regularly Michael. I look forward to them every day.
