I don’t remember the 2013 Evil Dead having any verbal references to the earlier movies in the series. In fact I actually hated that movie back when I first saw it because I thought it was a remake and they don’t really use any of the iconic moments at all and it’s actually very different, but once I realised it was actually a sequel I liked it more.
I go back and forth on the “get away from her” line. Movies have commitment to their own logic, but if they wanna take a moment to cheer, that’s fine. The last episode was all about fourth wall breaks, and this line was basically a little celebration. Cheap? Yes. A big cheer in the audience? Also yes.
I didn't get in under deadline, but I shared my thoughts about Longlegs and Alien with them, which they more or less echoed.Challengers and Love Lies Bleeding are currently my favorites of the year, but there's a bunch I havent seen.
I liked the CGI revived actor from Alien Romulus. I honestly love when they do that in movies. It’s so cool to me. That said, he looked way better in the second half of the movie than he did in the first half, like they got better at doing it but didn’t have time to go back to fix the earlier shots.
Matthew describing Longlegs as cilantro is dead on. It's clearly a movie you have a taste for or it repulses you. And I think that's why it was Neon's biggest at the US box office. There was a word of mouth that made people want to find out if they loved it or hated it. It was to my tastes anyway.
At 29:00, I have to fight back against Isla’s premise here. Nic an actor who disappears into every role. Recognizing him as Nic Cage doesn’t diminish that at all. Projecting the idea of, “ooh, that’s Nic Cage” is your problem, not the film’s problem. Like, imagine if they didn’t cast Jack Nicholson in The Shining cuz someone knew him from Easy Rider. Actors can play multiple characters, and Nic Cage is haunting and completely original in Longlegs. Not to be combative or anything. Great episode so far!
Loved Romulus and had a great time at a crowded Thursday night before release date showing. I see your criticism but I had a blast.
such an amazing feeling!

Evil Dead 2013 is my least favorite movie in that franchise. It’s like a clean, glossy version of The Evil Dead. I much preferred Evil Dead Rise.

My favourites this year would be Dune 2 and then Furiosa. Oddity was fairly decent too though I predicted the twist fairly early

Was the guy on the bottom high?
You say that like it’s a bad thing!
