    I just want to say Thank You! I was a pipefitter at one of the largest shipyards in the US and got to participate in Main Engine start on several new vessels we constructed! I have also built Ships Starting Air compressors and worked on Pipe Test!

    Thank you so much for this interesting video. It's very educative for me as a marine engineering student. I hope that they would release an app for mobile application. It would be more convenient for student who doesn't have a laptop.

    New challenge. Run the engine through a two hour stream 'voyage' whilst 'buying' (shore intake) the least amount of fuel possible

      That would be interesting. Unfortunately I don't think you could start the engine with only two hours fuel on board. There are minimums that have to be crossed before certain equipment will operate properly. You could attempt to start it with minimal fuel, or start it quickly. The fastest I've ever been able to start the main engine is around 30 minutes. I imagine with practice someone could start it much faster.

      @@Usul I've had plenty of time with this software and believe to have found most of its little bugs. I've never timed myself but I can get a dead ship to crank in what I believe to be 10 minutes. Now you can take advantage of the bilge system and flood the tank with straight seawater to start the OWS

      Step 1: use seawater to fill bilge tanks.
      Step 2: set oily water separator to auto
      Step 3: wait and transfer oil in collection tank to HFO bunker
      Step 4: sell oil at Port as "Excess fuel"
      Step 5: Profit

      @@SmokyPizza6853 , I agree that is a super annoying bug. Using shore power, and just a tiny bit of shore DO (to start steam), you can use the OWS to generate infinite HFO and DO. Maybe this vessel isn't sailing in the saltwater ocean, but in a vast sea of hydrocarbons instead? Do you work in the maritime industry?

    first of all thank you for the video, im a first engineer and currently doing marine engineering clases , so because of the pandemic maybe will no be able to use the simulator ofc the university and i was looking something free to do some online leason
    your tutorial was good , but can improve in concepts for example, when you where transfering fuel with the transfer pump you will never close the valves before stopping the pump (positive desplacement pump for fuel system of course you still have a relief valve)
    also you say it but you would have never start suply and booster pumps of the fuel system before having the service tank with a good level
    also you before you start the main engine you supose to have the boiler circ pump for the exhaust recovery system already running to not melt down the economaizer
    also normally you start the lub oil purifier before the main engine that help you to reach the temperature of the oil otherwise would be to cold (but that software problem)
    when you transfer form sludge tank from oily bilge separator to the fo trasnfer system you would never never never put it in the DO storage, some chief eng order to put it back to some fo storage to save money personally i would never do it you would fuck up your engine
    those are my feedback but very good specially if you are not a marine engineer

I do not work in the marine industry and have no industry experience. I am simply a fan of marine engineering. Thank you for all you do, and good luck with your career. I wish I could go back to my early 20's and join a marine academy.

      @@Usul you make me rember something else, afteryou did the turning of the engine with the indicator cocks open, after you close them and remove the turning gear you supose to do a test only with air foward and backward ( so the bridge give you order dead slow ahed and then stern, and the fuel rack you only push it up until 0 ,to only use air (the engine suposse to turn like 30 rpm i have not test it yet so i don n t know if works , yo do that that to test is freely moving both direction , but if not if you are putting the power of the fuel the damage of the engine would be bigger than just by the compress air
      -also when you were using emergency compressor you have a relief valve at the moment of starting supose to be open and then close it other wise if is manual diesel compressor with a handle would be imposble to start it up

    You need to synchronize first the dg 1 b4, transferring the load to avoid black out

      Nope. The full version is only available from a few marine training companies, and they want to sell it as part of a larger system. I'm sure the price is in the thousands of dollars.

      +harsha vardhan That would be nice. Full versions of the software can only be obtained through marine supply companies. None of them list a price. I'm guessing that means it is very expensive. The free student version is quite old, and many systems are not included (or do not function).

    wow really nice.
    I am not a professional just a curious and machines lover. So I have some questions if you don't mind.
    Why the engine needs a lub oil and fuel oil separator ? And why the steam ?.

      The reason you need a separator is to remove contaminates from lube and fuel oil. Stuff like chemical contaminants, water, and other junk need to be removed from the oil before being fed to the main engine. Cooling water can end up in the oil, there might be oil recovered from the bilge, or maybe you were forced to bunker terrible oil from some questionable port. There are plenty of places where contamination can enter the system.
      Steam is critical for many ship operations. It is used in the separators, and is also used to heat heavy oils making them easier to transfer with pumps. If the oil gets too cool, you wouldn't be able to transfer enough of it to feed the main engine. It actually needs to be pretty warm for it to flow easily. Steam is a safe way to heat the oil, as opposed to using electrical or other sources (which may be a fire hazard). The boiler can also be used to provide heat to the ship's cabin, clean water, and many other useful things.

      steam is to preheat the oil coming to separator. heat aids in better separation of unlike density
      electric preheaters are present in boiler burners.

    shouldn't you use the synchronization panel to switch the load from the eg to the dg. also shouldn't you close the indicator valves prior to starting the main engine. ( iam in school to become a maritime officer all ships so i know how it should be done)

      No, you leave the cylinder cocks open because some water might have accumulated on the cylinders when warming up and you don't want to compress that.

    Dont know why when the main engine just get starting automatically the air pressure from air supply drop and cause my main engine to stopped

      Are you waiting for both main receiving tanks to be full? Also, make sure both are open. I've been thinking about making more videos about this software again. It has been almost 5 years since I posted this, and people are still watching.

      I did not make this software. It is professional training software. The current versions cost thousands of dollars and needs to be purchased through a special marine training supplier. They do not sell it to the general public. I wish it were more available. I think a solid simulator like this would do very well on Steam. Totally agree. I do not think the owner of this software company cares about making the software more accessible.

      I don't believe so. It is PC only. This simulator is quite old. The maritime school you join will have much better options.

      I think it is still the same in our school. One more question, is it really necessary to increase the engine's rpm so that it will be tripped off, shut down the SG and automatically power up the D2? It causes many alarms, will it be okay on grading with my performance?(talking to my bachelor of science that i'm taking with)

      @@clintdenndalangpan8938, I did this to cause a fault on purpose. The free version of the software does not let you introduce faults. I caused an overspeed condition on the engine on purpose to cause an overspeed trip and main engine shut down. It is useful to see how the systems react to a multi-system failure.
      Doing this to an actual engine would probably be a great way to get fired.
