I have been a roofer for over 24 years. We do basic leadwork but would love to learn how to be able to do this as well as this guy one day. Top craftsmanship
I’m the same as you mate been roofing on and off for the last 30 years but only ever done stuff like step flashings and valleys. My brother was the one that did all the big stuff and lead burning. This bloke did a quality job
Same here roofing roughcasting and mainly plastering I do ,the 3 trades I've always wanted to learn are lead burning/welding,proper cornice work and Venetian plastering 👍
Fantastic beautiful work! As a young lad working as a Labouer in London I would watch lead workers on my tea breaks and lunch hour. His grandchildren will be able to see his work. How proud they will be.
Absolutely beautiful, you are a true craftsman. I live in the North East and we don't have many craftsmen here, in fact, it's hard to find a roofer who knows his job. If you advertise for a roofer here a couple of spotty youths turn up at your door with very little or no knowledge of any kind of roofing. Well done.
A gorgeous bit of leadwork there. I've got a wealthy mate who had a really big valley back gutter and flat roof done in lead. He loved the craftsmanship that went into so much, that he had a window installed on his stairs landing that overlooked the leadwork, so he could still look at it. Great video work to show off this great skill. Cheers.
Wow! It was like watching Bob Ross paint. truly memorising. such skill. Who says the British workmanship is gone. This whole project is showing the world that Brits can do anything. well done.
Let's hope enough people appreciate and value his work long enough for him to reach retirement , a true artisan.Thank you to you for showing this and to him for allowing us to see his historic skills.
Those lead rolls shown early on in the video where absolutely beautiful. It showed that we can still produce craftsmen of the very best in this country.
What a brilliant job and as you say who would not love to retrain, a clear craftsman who must have been brilliant to watch on the day. Quality, quality, quality, I hope this provides him with additional opportunities if indeed he needs them. Looking forward to the second instalment , great to watch and thankyou for sharing.
That guy is a true craftsman, what a brilliant job. How anyone could click on the dislike button is beyond me!! What an brilliant and hypnotic video, excellent, sorry to go on, but just beyond words.
Not sayin its a bad job, but why not hidden lead between the slates ? The finishing of that is so much nicer + no lead drips on those slates. The name of the finish i mean is "Strackort Noordboom" (Not 100% sure what the english translation is, but googling that should give you a clear view of what i mean) fyi i'm a roofer myself and my specialty is natural slates , in case you'd be wondering if i'm talking bullocks :).

@Biden Hunter true but I don't see any PPE at all. Proper handling of lead requires at the minimum annual blood lead level testing and gloves. There is no reason to use lead. For this application Tin Zinc Copper is the replacement product and it performs well. Also power tools are not toxic.
Fantastic skills, I spent my life being a contract paper hanger and enjoyed being regarded as one of the best out there, but seeing this guy work makes me wish I’d given lead work a try 👍🏻
As a PMG cable jointer in Sydney I became a Lead Cable worker who loved the plumbing and wiping of large communication cables. I remember it fondly and loved this episode. Loved his work. 🇦🇺
Beautiful work boys 😍 . The lead work is just stunning. It's ten years since I did it at college and getting back into it. Bossing has never been my fave but seeing something that beautiful has changed my mind!
Like you I will just about tackle anything, but got defeated on pebble dashing my garage. So reluctently I had to call in the tradesmen. In this case a grandfather, father, and son outfit. They worked together like clockwork and when all done the quality of finish was excellent. I was so pleased I paid them more than their quote! So you may have exceeded your budget, but it looks absolutely brilliant. Money well spent. . .
Great work, I'm a leadman myself, the only thing I do different is work the straps out so the laps land on the straps so they can't flap but each to thier own 👍
@@creativefilmenterprisespty8042 because the copper straps hold the lead down better and prevent wind lifting the lead up. Lead straps can potentially pull away so hes used copper straps then lead to hide the copper

As a former lead worker this guy is a craftsman , but nightmare trade to get into to name a few problems the weather , brick dust and old lead dust that’ll probably kill u in the end . Damage to your back picking up lead also repetitive strain injuries. It is a young mans game it’s not something after 50 you will want to be doing , it was nice to see someone doing it correctly tho . Nice work !

What beautiful craftsmanship !!! I have done copper roofs without any soldering but never a lead one. I am a 90 year old plumber in Australia
Copper is harder to work with you would piss lead
What a joy to watch a master craftsman ply his trade. It is a work of art that few will see. Well done Lewis

Here in the uk a good lead man is like gold dust, there just arn't many around. It's a good trade for a youngster to get into.

Good earner as well if you any good.
Ok so working with lead is extremely dangerous. This is irresponsible! There is a product out there that replaces the lead.
@@jimsbcarp power tools can be dangerous if someone inexperienced is handling them, lead is still widely used and safe when precautions are taken.

Very good call on NOT doing it yourself in this instance. That chap is a proper craftsman and it was a pleasure to watch :)

Absolutely quality lead is so hard to do unless you are proper skilled respect to the guy mega
Being a roofer who works with slate a lot, we stopped using lead, and more copper, due to the rain washing the lead into our water system, and lakes.
