I thought that this was one of the songs that Collins actually wrote??? Like my mom, who was three years older than Collins, I simply adore Collins. There was no one better for this Christmas performance at the Biltmore Estate.
When I was in college in the late 90s, she came to my school and performed this concert promoting the "All on a Wintry Night" album. I found out about it from a friend who was in the choir that was to be backing her. Had I known about it sooner, I'd've joined the choir, just for the chance to maybe meet her personally. Instead, though, I landed a seat in the front row. She opened the concert with "Joy to the World," and I literally burst into tears from the pure, pristine beauty of it. It's one of my finest memories. This song effectively opens the album, which is fine, but I still recall "Joy to the World" being the first I saw. And this recording has a rather key different segment. Thank you for uploading this!
Back in 2003 give or take a year Judy did a Christmas concert at the Stanley Performing Arts Theater in Utica N.Y. I was part of the choir who backed her up that night and I especially remember this song because the harmony was so beautiful! It was such an honor!
Cindy Zapf Hi Cindy. I just saw your reply tonight because someone else just put up a comment. Yes I got to meet her. She was very pleasant and classy. She was sincere too. She was very appreciative of the choir I was in that backed her up. Truly an experience I will always remember!
What I didn't put in my post last year is that Judy was truly a pleasure to converse with. Though she may or may not remember me specifically, I will always remember her.
This song will be featured on Judy Collins' upcoming "Christmas with Judy Collins" CD, to be released October 22, 2013. It is a compilation of her previous Christmas CDs, with the addition of a wonderful, upbeat, new single called "Angels in the Snow." You can buy the single now on iTunes and Amazon, and view the cool cover of the new CD now on Amazon.com
Today I learned the voice of so many Christmases of my childhood - the B side of a worn blue Scotch audiotape- Judy Collins. tears. What a gift :')
Cohen was a great poet and composer , Judy Collins sings like an angel, we are blessed.
Judy Collins sings like an angel because she is an angel. As you say, we are blessed.

@@lesvitraux JC did compose this song in fact. It's become a holiday classic, in this house anyway!
