Boss GX700 - Master of Puppets (ish) tone

- Tried to dial in a bit of Puppets style tone with the GX700. Used the BG Lead preamp and Vintage OD as a boost. Also had the EQ on the Boss pulling out some 800Hz and boosting the lows +5dB. In Reaper, I used the EQ to take out 6dB at 1000Hz with a Q of 1. Using my Cort G300 Pro with JB in the bridge. Mic is a GLS Audio ES57 on an 80s era G12T-75. It's in the ballpark but not quite there yet. Excuse the crappy playing too, my down picking just ain't what it used to be (ie. never was, haha!).
100% tone achieved!
@@Eric_S Thanks! I don't think it's quite there but pretty close for a 90s era modelor.
You do a good job working with these multiple fx units and preamps. Sounds great.
@@mikepadgett8074 Thanks man! These old rack units are fun to mess with. You can find a lot of them super cheap too, which is a nice bonus.
I have a Boss GT-5 which I think is the same thing in a floor pedal format. The 5150 model is probably what I use most of the time.
Yes, I think the GT-5 is the same. I'll have to mess with the 5150 model on this one a bit.
@@low_e_music I think that is what Bolt Thrower used when they used the GX700.
@@wootks Yep they use the GX700.
@@low_e_music World Eater time?
@@wootks I don't know when they started using them but you can find plenty of pics with them on stage.
Sounds awesome, really close bro
@@mikerauter1859 Thanks Mike! There is too much "hair" on the top end. I think I need to drop the gain and presence and try double or quad tracking.
Maybe tracking two or four tracks will make it closer?
@@MathiasBronnes Yeah, that's the secret sauce. Need to back the gain and presence off too.
@@low_e_music i was so pissed when i had to basically change my recording tone completely when multitracking🤣 i got great results though
@@MathiasBronnes Yeah, it's definitely a different way to do it.
Have you ever used the GT10 .?
@@jcalzada74 Not yet. I have had a GT3, GT5, GT6, and this GX700.
could i just buy this and run it into a zoom IR?
@@michaelbuczko4967 Yes, you can run it into an IR loader. It helps to have a power amp sim as well but I wouldn't say that's 100% necessary.
@@low_e_music thank you, love it
Sounds more like early Pantera. Vulgar Display Of Puppets. HaHa.
@@billyhall2006 Yeah, I can hear that. For a cheap digital piece of rack gear though, it's not bad.
@@low_e_music Yes Sir, good job
