    I live in a country where rms voltage is 230v
    So basically 325peak volt as shown in the video
    I want to order a surge protector online
    Same specs as in the video
    In 20ka
    Imax 40ka
    But with uc 275v
    In the video it says uc value shouldnt be near the peak voltage
    So can i still use that ?
    Even in my country here in store
    They sell ones with uc lower than peak voltage
    Also the up is 1.2 v is that better for voltage spike ?
    Or 1.5v is better?
    Please somebody help me with this
    asap
    Really need some help here

    • @ElectroAcademyEA
      @ElectroAcademyEA  11 місяців тому

      UC is maximum continuous voltage and is related to the RMS voltage.
      Since RMS voltage is 230 volts here, this SPD with 275 V UC limit is ideal to use.
      When consider the UP level, 1.2 V SPD, or even a one with 900 Volts is better than the 1.5 V unit for sensitive electronic items, but it should be used as the secondary SPD unit only.
      That means you should have a primary SPD with a UP level of around 2.5 V at the entrance then.
      Since we normally go for only one SPD unit for a home, better option is the unit with the UP value of 1.5 V.

      @@ElectroAcademyEA i am just trying to protect my electronics from voltage spikes from power outage and surges
      Where i live, i don't really have any issues with lighting

      So i will have both type 2 and 3

    • @ElectroAcademyEA
      @ElectroAcademyEA  11 місяців тому +2

      If your area is free from Lightning issues, type 1 SPD is optional only.
      So you can go with Up 1.2 V SPD, and it has better protection level than 1.5 V SPD for electronic equipment.

    What if I have a 230v supply feeding a split board with 2 rcds in the consumer unit

    • @ElectroAcademyEA
      @ElectroAcademyEA  Рік тому

      You can install Type1 SPD at main incoming line after the main switch. (Before splitting the circuit.)
      If two sub-distribution boards are available with equipment need to be protected, two SPDs (Type2) need to be installed in two DBs before the RCD.

    Do we need a dedicated earth bar, or we can connect the SPD to the existing common earth bar.

    • @ElectroAcademyEA
      @ElectroAcademyEA  10 місяців тому

      If the earth wire size from present earth bar to the ground rod is 10 mm2 or more, same earth bar can be used for SPD connection.
      If it is less, you need a separate earth wire with 10 mm2 or more, from SPD to the ground rod.

    If a 3 pole surge protector ( Siemens bolt shield) is installed in a home with 120/240 v, no 3 phases capability, will the surge protector still protect ?

    • @ElectroAcademyEA
      @ElectroAcademyEA  2 роки тому +2

      Standard 3phase SPD should work as long as you select matching voltage for single phase.
      For a 230 volt single phase supply, V RMS is 230V.
      V max is 325 volts.
      When you select with 10-15 % extra voltage, SPD should have 375-385 Volts value.
      Any two poles on SPD can be connected for single phase lines, keeping the extra pole empty.
      How ever, ask the manufacture first, since some sophisticated units may not work with one pole is without a phase line connected to it.

    Do we get electric shock when we touch any metal appliance which conected to the earth cable when the spd release the lightning volt trough the ground cable?

    • @ElectroAcademyEA
      @ElectroAcademyEA  Рік тому

      Always better to avoid touching metal parts unnecessarily, since we don't know the magnitude of the current going to flow, when lightning occurs.

    • @alimansoor78
      @alimansoor78 11 місяців тому +1

      So I think it's better to keep a separate dedicated earthpole for the spd to avoid any kind of risk

    Great video.. In a surge scenario, the SPD will ground the excess voltage but WILL it also trip the MCB??

    • @ElectroAcademyEA
      @ElectroAcademyEA  Рік тому +4

      Even a high performing MCB will take more than 2 milliseconds to operate.
      Sudden transient voltages appear and dissapear within few microseconds.
      1 microsecond is 1 millionth of a second.
      A good SPD will operate within few nano seconds.
      1 microsecond is 1000 nanoseconds.
      It shows how fast SPDs act.
      MCBs are not capable enough to detect those transient voltages.

    Three phase ki spd me agar two phase lagaye aur nutral na lagaye to kya spd work karega

    • @ElectroAcademyEA
      @ElectroAcademyEA  2 роки тому

      If a surge appears on any line connected to the SPD, it will by pass it through the earth wire to the ground.
      If Neutral wire is not connected, still the phase wires connected to the SPD will work.
      But, any surge appears or comes in to the house from outside on the Neutral line, surely can damage the equipment connected.
      That is the reason for connecting all the lines from outdoor to the SPD, before entering the premises.

    This diagrama refers only for CT1 type of connection and is wrong because in TT systems RCD should be before SPD and not after. Only in TNS is after. Also who the hell uses CT1 today ? CT2 is by far beter for TT and TNS for electricians

    • @ElectroAcademyEA
      @ElectroAcademyEA  Рік тому

      CT1 type is used at main switch board and if sub-distribution boards too are available, CT2 type should come on to the sub-panel.
      (CT2 type is not there as a replacement for CT1 type)
      CT3 or type 3 SPDs are also available and should be installed separately with specific systems when protection is needed for security cameras, telephone systems, PLC operation etc.
      Further, RCD is nothing to do with SPD.
      SPD is better to be fixed even before the main switch, but since it needs to be isolated when replacing or new one being installed, SPD comes after the main switch.
