After many years of hand sharpening drill bits, I finally pulled the trigger on a Drill Doctor and have been very pleased with the results. One of the best reasons for having a sharpener is to be able to sharpen small diameter bits that are very difficult to sharpen by hand. All my bits look like they have come from the factory and I can really tell now when my bits become dull. I don't see the weight of the machine as being a problem as long as the design is good. Great video thumbs up.

You seem to have a lot of tips and tricks that you include in your videos as if they are nothing special. They are! Please go into depth on every aspect of what you do each time. They may seem like nothing special to you but to many of us who don't work in machine shops this information is gold!!
Years ago when the first Drill Dr. came out I was so impressed with its performance I gathered up ALL of my millions of dull and broken drill bits, sat down a couple evenings and sharpened ALL of them ... I stored the ones I didn't have indexes for in clearly labeled plastic pill bottles. If one gets dull or broken, I just go to the inventory and back to work. I sharpen the dull ones and return them to stock about once a year. About 10 years ago Drill Dr came out with a new - improved version. I gave my first on to my son and bought the new one. Both machines are still putting sharp points on drill bits.
I did the same with the Drill Doctor I got. Took it on the job and sharpened every dull and broken bit in the job toolbox. I liked that this one came with a diamond wheel. I think later versions didn't.
Mr. Pete. Thank you for the candid and direct eval of this unit as well as the Americanized instructions. A long time ago you told new machinists to buy a tool every payday. I headed that advice and now I have a pretty much fully equipped shop. (you have cost me a bundle!) This is not exception. I bought one of these upon your recommendation and I am delighted with the price, quality, and performance. I was fortunate that my dad showed me how to hand grind drill bits. He was a tool grinder that worked for CTD before Acme Cleveland bought them and moved to China.
I would like to thank you for producing these videos on drill sharpeners. I purchased a MR-13B bit sharpener after watching your first video about it, and have been very happy with it. Not only does it do a great job sharpening standard twist drill bits, it can also sharpen carbide spotting drills. Because it can accommodate bits from 90° to 140°, it can sharpen bits beyond the range of Drill Doctors sharpeners. The larger grinding wheels also do a better job. For larger bits, Vevor sells the model MR-20G which goes up to 20mm, but it's almost twice the cost.
Always hated drill sharpening jigs... sloppy cheep junk.. I was sharpening .3mm to 1.5mm drill bits for jewlery making use. 😁 59 degrees for metal and 57 degrees for wood. 12 degree relief. This machine looks easy and accurate. nice would save a lot of effort and eye strain. Thank you for the video.

Back in the early 80's Darex sold a version of their sharpening system which you need to use you own grinder with. It used the same high quality chuck as their premium devices. I think I saw it in the Home Shop Machinist, and I bought one and mounted it to a plate with my grinder, it works great but in 40 years I can count the drill bits I have sharpened on one hand. I just buy new or almost new bits at the flea market, even if I don't need them. A man can never have enough drill bits
This is clearly a high-quality machine with well-made components. I will get the MR-13B for sure. That being said, I think you have grossly underestimated the quality and ease of use of the Drill Doctor. I purchased the exact model of Drill Doctor you show here, on a Snap-On truck almost 30 years ago and it has sharpened thousands of bits at my shop. It is easy to use, and just like this machine can get bits sharper than new, without the need to understand the geometry of the bit which is required here. On either machine, splitting the point is the best feature. Look closely at the image at 17:45. The leading-edge tapers wider toward the outside of the bit, so your index setting is off slightly. This image clearly shows the wide spot in the center of the bit where no cutting takes place. This drill bit will require pre-drilling a smaller hole to go through a piece of 1/2 inch steel plate. Splitting this point will essentially put a smaller drill bit right in the center of this bit so you don't have to drill twice to make one hole. Not all drill bits are 118 degrees, and the Drill Doctor can check and instantly adjust precisely for the two most common angles. This machine is on a whole new level but requires a strong understanding of the bit geometry for one to benefit from its ability to grind almost any type of bit (esp. the MR-13B).

I've had the Drill Doctor 750 for many years now and it works great, I dont care if the chuck is plastic as long as it works. I have dozens and dozens of bits and it sharpens them all plus carbide bits that I use on masonary and hardened steel
I have a first gen drill doctor and ok but want one of those. Looks more heavy made and a lot more precise. I have so many good quality bits that need sharpening. Preciate ya video.
I stopped the hunt for drill sharpeners when i got my drill doctor. No doubt the heavy steel sharpeners are going to last a long time and do a good job. Thanks for the video keep on keeping on.
Back in 1970 I took a metal working class in college. We had to sharpen plain blades, handsaw blades, and drill bits. You passed your drill sharpening test if the bit would spin out two even ribbons of metal. Also made a sharpening gauge for drill bits, cold chisels, center punchs etc. Like your You Tube channel, the class was an excellent learning experience for practical knowledge.
Bought one from amazon, it is unreal how well it works. Had to play with it a little but when I got it figured out can do a drill bit in seconds.But it will not do a lot of bits in a SAE 29 peace drill set as the collets will not hold the bits. (too big or too small) But that being said I'm Very pleased and would highly recommend it for any shop.
I’ve been using a drill doctor for a couple of years now. It is as described in this segment but it does work if you follow the directions to a tee. It will get the job done in a hurry. I only use it about once or twice a year. So just three or four uses. I just have to go over the directions each time. Too long between sharpening sessions. I am particularly interested in see how the end mill sharpening feature works on the second version. If that proves to work I’ll be forced to invest in one. I’ve got several carbide ends mills I’d like to save if at all possible.
That Craftsman model works, but you have to have a permanent setup for it with everything bolted down. The advantage it has is that it will sharpen a drill bit larger than 3/4". It is really the only one that I have seen that does that. It is a pain to set up, so I use a regular grinder. I got a grinder from harbor freight that has a groove in the guide and that seems to work good enough. Additionally, it is nearly impossible to find directions on how to use the Craftsman. You have to twist it.

Glad you bought one. I know people think I’m getting paid to do this, but that is the best drill sharpener I have ever ever used in my life and I’ve tried most of them. Except of course for the. Darex which cost $2000.
I own a Drill DR for drills up to 3/4...it actually produces decent edges but, as mr pete alluded to , the cord is the biggest problem dealing with and instead of dealing with it I'll resharpen a bit on the grinder instead of the drill dr wrestling match.
Mr. Pete, based on your earlier videos on these types of drill grinders, I purchased one of the larger units, an MR-20G that can grind up to 3/4" bits. I've now sharpened all my bits and all of my brother's bits, probably over 500 bits! And the machine has worked flawlessly! I'd tried a Drill Doctor and I was not happy with it at all. Just a few points from my experience. I can easily grind bits down to 1/8" but not smaller, even though the collets will hold down to 3/32". The smaller bits are not stiff enough to grind successfully. I do end up using a 10x magnifier to setup the smaller bits. I also only grind 135 degree bits and I always split the points. This is the only grinder that I have ever used that flawlessly creates split points. I like the 135 degree split points so well that I've reground all the 118 degree drills to 135 degree split points. That takes about 2 to 4 passes on the grinder, but it works extremely well. So thanks for the video and I concur with your recommendation! It's a fantastic machine! Mike
Thank you very much for the tips in operating the machine. I intend to attempt to sharpen some smaller bits in the future. I also intend to split the points in a future video. I would like to have the model that grind the larger bits. It really is a great machine, but a bit pricey for some people. Many people are against this machine because it’s made in communist China. But no one in America to my knowledge makes one like this. It is far better than the drill doctor or the. lisle
Dr doctors are cheap but they do work. The reason you see so many of them 2nd hand is most people start with one and upgrade to something better. I got my drill dr 2nd hand for $5 and have well used it over the years. It paid for itself the first few months of owning it being an electrician we dull up pilot bits for hole saws like they are toliet paper. Heck for awhile I was gathering up dull bits from coworkers, find on the jobsite, and even the plumbers. I would spend about an hour on the weekend and sharpen them all then sell them 1/2 price back to people. That funded me buying one of these better machines I have today.
At 4:30, you mention that the Drill Doctor collet is plastic. That bit me one time when I negligently left the light over mine on overnight. When I returned to the shop the next morning, I found the collet did not appreciate the infrared from the light and had melted into uselessness. The replacement collet cost was a significant percentage of the original cost for the whole thing!
While everyone below is bestowing their love of the Drill Doctor and such, I'm left here wondering about the Island thing! My dad was a Lt. Colonel stationed there during WW-II so I'm quite curious about that! The drill sharpeners are definitely second tier in comparison. LOL
Looks like a pretty solid machine, but if you get a book and make some jigs, you can do a very passable job sharpening drills, we get good enough results to use shop resharpened drill bits in the CNC Mill. Especially if you have a belt grinder with a table or a toolbit grinder where you can angle the table and use a miter gauge in the t slots.
Nice presentation. I recently purchased a very nice Enco tool/cutter grinder at an estate. (mid 80's barely used) I need to buy some new and varied stones for it and learn the craft. My used end mill collection runneth over. I have pretty good luck sharpening drills by hand, but one of these units would be nice to own. Not a ridiculously bad price either.
My drill doctor works great and 1/3 price and it comes in a hard case to put it away when it’s not in use. Also i can sharpen a drill bit just as fast as the vevor brand.
I have a drill doctor I got for a $1 at an estate sale, and I'm generally happy with it, but every once in a while it produces a negative angle. I've never been to figure out why that happens, but being able to remove the cover easily would help, I'm sure. I always have my feelers out for a Derex, but they usually sell for stupid prices.
The "Web Diameter" dial on the left is for millimeters and should match the collet used. In other words, if you use a 7-8 collet, then you are supposed to set the dial in the same range. I do not know if it works as designed since I have not bought one, but your video makes it very tempting.
Thanks for the review. Your review is great because you show and talk about the plus and minus of products. I am now 67 and my father was a machinist that taught me how to grind a drill bit a long time ago. The gages are a must just to keep you in the window for the proper angles. I had to laugh because I purchased one of those General drill bit sharpeners and even bought a grinder only for that tool, it did not get used but a couple of times. I do have to add that it is sad when we in the USA cannot produce a good product like this here for a reasonable cost. That is what we all, admit to it or not, it is the cost or one my say value. The hair stands up on my neck thinking that our dollars are going back to Communist China. They are not to blame, we are all of us. We have sold out manufacturing here and China has filled to void. Nice video ... just ordered one. When I got it, the diamond wheel was NOT included. Also, it had been dropped during shipping and the wheel cover was bent. Not a big deal, it straightened out fairly easily. Had a bit of oil on the surfaces, so was a bit concerned, but everything appears to be fine with it. Thanks for your in-depth information.
I bought one of these (the 13B model) a couple of weeks ago. I watched a lot of videos, including yours, and it seemed a good machine. Overall, I like it very much. It does a much better job than I can do by hand. The one thing I still ask myself is, why the models with both grinding positions on top of the machine (the 13A has one in the front and the 13B has one in the back, but there's also "pro" models which have both) are so much more expensive (almost 50%, if I'm not mistaken). And if the end result using the "pro" models is so much better to justify this price difference.
@@mrpete222 I watched Stefan Gotteswinters' review of the Motom BSM 13 Duo, that has both. It seems that one is used for splitting the point and the other for thinning the web. On the B model, it looks like they have tried to combine both features in one. Looking forward to the rest of your video's on this machine!
I never bought a drill dr because a former employer had a very expensive model and it was all cheap plastic, I don't have any problem with plastic but the drill dr felt flimsy and in a commercial environment it was flimsy. If you had a careful person using it then it would probably hold up great, but not when you have 3 guys drilling 1/4" holes for 8 hours straight while in a lift basket and the need to resharpen 3 or 4 bits every hour or so all while the boss is watching. It gets treated a little rough. That employer wasn't happy with the tool for what he paid. That was in 2003 or so and the drill dr he bought was around $200 it may have worked out slightly cheaper than just using fresh bits but the tool was worn out by the end of the 6 day job. He didn't bother warranting it. For years after when I'd see one on a store shelf I'd pick up the package and check to see if it felt more substantial, they never did. Honestly I had a guy show me an easy way to hand sharpen bits that was quicker. Even using the v groove in a grinder table can be extremely accurate once you know how to adjust it. For holes that need no precision by hand is fine.
Mr. Pete, this is an excellent video, as usual. I have the Drill Doctor. However, the ground surfaces are a bit crude. It works fairly well for larger bits. The smaller bits are a bit of a challenge to sharpen precisely. Hence, the Vevor has real appeal and a fair price.
This looks like a good sharpener. However, I can't see where it is worth the additional cost over a Drill Doctor. I have used a Drill Doctor for so long that I can't remember, maybe 30 years. I still have the original and the plastic parts are still as good as new. I will buy drill bits from Harbor Freight and run them through the Drill Doctor. After sharpening them with the Drill Doctor, they will cut what I call pigtails all the way through. I don't see how you can do better than that. From the first time that I used the Drill Doctor, I have always said, "Don't let anyone ever tell you that a Drill Doctor ain't worth the money." Don't knock it until you try it.
Drill Doctors have been much improved over the years. I have an early model that works but is very fussy to set up. Later models work better but still need to be clamped down to a work surface for best performance.
Thanks Mr Pete, I've been looking a drill sharpener but here in Australia they are extremely expensive. It's almost better to buy a D-Bit grinder + Attachments. I've purchased a few things from Vevor and have been happy with them. I'd definitely buy one of their Drill grinder BUT they don't have them in Australia 😭
I am watching Lyle. I've gotten pretty good with my Atlas Drill Grinder. I bought a cabinet last week and in one of the drawers were 2 NOS 7" grinder wheels.
I think they moved it because someone thru the collet in with a drill sticking way to far out and the wheel thru it all back out the top. Putting it so it grinds on the backside removes the auto eject feature.
ive got a drill doc I wish yo would have shown how you push the bit thru the collet to make another grind picture that you just tap the butt of the bit a little and hope its not to much to grind
I use a small oil/wet stone to finish up my freehand sharpening from/on a sorta coarse wheel. Makes a big difference, wish I'd thought about it a long time ago! Real pain trying to grind down/thin the web, lip-relief, split-point, with the rounded edges of my wheels, wouldn't have any wheels left if they were always dressed nice. Also, Sell Out, no way, never crossed my mind, you're the least likely Pimp on UA-cam!

They bought an expensive Darex at a shop I worked at but eventually people got tired of monkeying with it and went back to using the bench grinder and the old Darex just sat in a corner gathering dust and spiderwebs,a pitiful sight.

@@mrpete222 For some reason Vevor became the subject of an investigation into electrical safety and so they can't sell electrical products in the UK at the moment. They have issued quite a long recall list of 'potentially unsafe' electrical products. But I'm seeing the same products sold on other platforms here so I don't know why Vevor has been singled out. I bought the Drill Doctor 360x which is quite basic (but expensive here in UK). A DD500 will cost you 110USD but over here that same product will cost £180 (230USD). Cheers
AH, that's probably why they have no stock of the old ones in either England or Australia. Been trying to buy a drill sharpener from them and at present nothing is listed when you search their website for drill grinder. Will be interesting on how it can sharpen endmills. Wonder if it is just an end sharpen or side flutes as well. Regards from Australia.
One possibly huge flaw with anything Vevor is replacement parts. I could not find a CBN nor an SDC wheel for replacing a worn wheel. You can bet that they will wear as they are Chineseum.
A couple of months ago, I researched that and the wheels are available from other companies. Others have told me that they are not very good with spare parts or repairs
@@mrpete222 Unfortunately, unless you know what works for many Vevor tools for replacements, they do not offer much. I have purchased a number of Vevor products, they are fulling my needs but I know for any service on a plasma cutter, it is probably a disposable. Just bringing this up for anyone interested in Vevor. If it is not listed online, writing them for assistance is futile. You would think they would source wear items to set themselves above other Chineseum marketers. Harbor Freight is learning and many of their products have improved.
I have a drill dr. It has been frustrating! The cams wear out, if the collet is loose in the grinding fixture the results are very poor, especially on small diameter drills.
I have tried 2 drill doctors the 550 and the 750 I think was the models and nother gave a decent sharpen it could be me but I’m looking at the vevor strongly I’ll waight for the b video to release as I have some end mills to
I never have actually use my drill doctor. I went to an auction today and was going to buy another one because it was a different model. But I was instantly outbid. I do not think that the Vevor grinder is capable of sharpening and mills. There is nothing in the directions about it whatsoever.

I've had the Drill Doctor 750 for many years now and it works great, I dont care if the chuck is plastic as long as it works. I have dozens and dozens of bits and it sharpens them all plus carbide bits that I use on masonary and hardened steel

Back in 1970 I took a metal working class in college. We had to sharpen plain blades, handsaw blades, and drill bits. You passed your drill sharpening test if the bit would spin out two even ribbons of metal. Also made a sharpening gauge for drill bits, cold chisels, center punchs etc. Like your You Tube channel, the class was an excellent learning experience for practical knowledge.

Bought one from amazon, it is unreal how well it works. Had to play with it a little but when I got it figured out can do a drill bit in seconds.But it will not do a lot of bits in a SAE 29 peace drill set as the collets will not hold the bits. (too big or too small) But that being said I'm Very pleased and would highly recommend it for any shop.

I’ve been using a drill doctor for a couple of years now.
It is as described in this segment but it does work if you follow the directions to a tee.
It will get the job done in a hurry. I only use it about once or twice a year. So just three or four uses.
I just have to go over the directions each time. Too long between sharpening sessions.
I am particularly interested in see how the end mill sharpening feature works on the second version.
If that proves to work I’ll be forced to invest in one.
I’ve got several carbide ends mills I’d like to save if at all possible.
I have noticed that also. If I have not used a machine in a long time, I have to learn it all over.
That Craftsman model works, but you have to have a permanent setup for it with everything bolted down. The advantage it has is that it will sharpen a drill bit larger than 3/4". It is really the only one that I have seen that does that. It is a pain to set up, so I use a regular grinder. I got a grinder from harbor freight that has a groove in the guide and that seems to work good enough. Additionally, it is nearly impossible to find directions on how to use the Craftsman. You have to twist it.

Glad you bought one. I know people think I’m getting paid to do this, but that is the best drill sharpener I have ever ever used in my life and I’ve tried most of them. Except of course for the. Darex which cost $2000.
I own a Drill DR for drills up to 3/4...it actually produces decent edges but, as mr pete alluded to , the cord is the biggest problem dealing with and instead of dealing with it I'll resharpen a bit on the grinder instead of the drill dr wrestling match.
Mr. Pete, based on your earlier videos on these types of drill grinders, I purchased one of the larger units, an MR-20G that can grind up to 3/4" bits. I've now sharpened all my bits and all of my brother's bits, probably over 500 bits! And the machine has worked flawlessly! I'd tried a Drill Doctor and I was not happy with it at all. Just a few points from my experience. I can easily grind bits down to 1/8" but not smaller, even though the collets will hold down to 3/32". The smaller bits are not stiff enough to grind successfully. I do end up using a 10x magnifier to setup the smaller bits. I also only grind 135 degree bits and I always split the points. This is the only grinder that I have ever used that flawlessly creates split points. I like the 135 degree split points so well that I've reground all the 118 degree drills to 135 degree split points. That takes about 2 to 4 passes on the grinder, but it works extremely well. So thanks for the video and I concur with your recommendation! It's a fantastic machine! Mike

It really is a great machine, but a bit pricey for some people. Many people are against this machine because it’s made in communist China. But no one in America to my knowledge makes one like this. It is far better than the drill doctor or the. lisle
Dr doctors are cheap but they do work. The reason you see so many of them 2nd hand is most people start with one and upgrade to something better. I got my drill dr 2nd hand for $5 and have well used it over the years. It paid for itself the first few months of owning it being an electrician we dull up pilot bits for hole saws like they are toliet paper.
Heck for awhile I was gathering up dull bits from coworkers, find on the jobsite, and even the plumbers. I would spend about an hour on the weekend and sharpen them all then sell them 1/2 price back to people. That funded me buying one of these better machines I have today.

At 4:30, you mention that the Drill Doctor collet is plastic. That bit me one time when I negligently left the light over mine on overnight. When I returned to the shop the next morning, I found the collet did not appreciate the infrared from the light and had melted into uselessness. The replacement collet cost was a significant percentage of the original cost for the whole thing!

While everyone below is bestowing their love of the Drill Doctor and such, I'm left here wondering about the Island thing! My dad was a Lt. Colonel stationed there during WW-II so I'm quite curious about that! The drill sharpeners are definitely second tier in comparison. LOL
Looks like a pretty solid machine, but if you get a book and make some jigs, you can do a very passable job sharpening drills, we get good enough results to use shop resharpened drill bits in the CNC Mill. Especially if you have a belt grinder with a table or a toolbit grinder where you can angle the table and use a miter gauge in the t slots.

Nice presentation. I recently purchased a very nice Enco tool/cutter grinder at an estate. (mid 80's barely used) I need to buy some new and varied stones for it and learn the craft. My used end mill collection runneth over. I have pretty good luck sharpening drills by hand, but one of these units would be nice to own. Not a ridiculously bad price either.
My drill doctor works great and 1/3 price and it comes in a hard case to put it away when it’s not in use. Also i can sharpen a drill bit just as fast as the vevor brand.

I have a drill doctor I got for a $1 at an estate sale, and I'm generally happy with it, but every once in a while it produces a negative angle. I've never been to figure out why that happens, but being able to remove the cover easily would help, I'm sure. I always have my feelers out for a Derex, but they usually sell for stupid prices.

The "Web Diameter" dial on the left is for millimeters and should match the collet used. In other words, if you use a 7-8 collet, then you are supposed to set the dial in the same range. I do not know if it works as designed since I have not bought one, but your video makes it very tempting.

I am now 67 and my father was a machinist that taught me how to grind a drill bit a long time ago. The gages are a must just to keep you in the window for the proper angles. I had to laugh because I purchased one of those General drill bit sharpeners and even bought a grinder only for that tool, it did not get used but a couple of times. I do have to add that it is sad when we in the USA cannot produce a good product like this here for a reasonable cost. That is what we all, admit to it or not, it is the cost or one my say value. The hair stands up on my neck thinking that our dollars are going back to Communist China. They are not to blame, we are all of us. We have sold out manufacturing here and China has filled to void. Unfortunately they also provide drugs that are killing our young people by the 100's of thousands. Hey, you taught me to rant, Just Like You. Thanks Mr. Pete

Nice video ... just ordered one. When I got it, the diamond wheel was NOT included. Also, it had been dropped during shipping and the wheel cover was bent. Not a big deal, it straightened out fairly easily. Had a bit of oil on the surfaces, so was a bit concerned, but everything appears to be fine with it. Thanks for your in-depth information.

I bought one of these (the 13B model) a couple of weeks ago. I watched a lot of videos, including yours, and it seemed a good machine. Overall, I like it very much. It does a much better job than I can do by hand. The one thing I still ask myself is, why the models with both grinding positions on top of the machine (the 13A has one in the front and the 13B has one in the back, but there's also "pro" models which have both) are so much more expensive (almost 50%, if I'm not mistaken). And if the end result using the "pro" models is so much better to justify this price difference.
The main difference between models a and B, are the point splitting feature. I will cover that in video three of the series.
@@mrpete222 I watched Stefan Gotteswinters' review of the Motom BSM 13 Duo, that has both. It seems that one is used for splitting the point and the other for thinning the web. On the B model, it looks like they have tried to combine both features in one. Looking forward to the rest of your video's on this machine!
I never bought a drill dr because a former employer had a very expensive model and it was all cheap plastic, I don't have any problem with plastic but the drill dr felt flimsy and in a commercial environment it was flimsy. If you had a careful person using it then it would probably hold up great, but not when you have 3 guys drilling 1/4" holes for 8 hours straight while in a lift basket and the need to resharpen 3 or 4 bits every hour or so all while the boss is watching. It gets treated a little rough. That employer wasn't happy with the tool for what he paid. That was in 2003 or so and the drill dr he bought was around $200 it may have worked out slightly cheaper than just using fresh bits but the tool was worn out by the end of the 6 day job. He didn't bother warranting it.
For years after when I'd see one on a store shelf I'd pick up the package and check to see if it felt more substantial, they never did.
Honestly I had a guy show me an easy way to hand sharpen bits that was quicker. Even using the v groove in a grinder table can be extremely accurate once you know how to adjust it. For holes that need no precision by hand is fine.

Mr. Pete, this is an excellent video, as usual. I have the Drill Doctor. However, the ground surfaces are a bit crude. It works fairly well for larger bits. The smaller bits are a bit of a challenge to sharpen precisely. Hence, the Vevor has real appeal and a fair price.
This looks like a good sharpener. However, I can't see where it is worth the additional cost over a Drill Doctor. I have used a Drill Doctor for so long that I can't remember, maybe 30 years. I still have the original and the plastic parts are still as good as new. I will buy drill bits from Harbor Freight and run them through the Drill Doctor. After sharpening them with the Drill Doctor, they will cut what I call pigtails all the way through. I don't see how you can do better than that. From the first time that I used the Drill Doctor, I have always said, "Don't let anyone ever tell you that a Drill Doctor ain't worth the money." Don't knock it until you try it.

Drill Doctors have been much improved over the years. I have an early model that works but is very fussy to set up. Later models work better but still need to be clamped down to a work surface for best performance.

I am watching Lyle. I've gotten pretty good with my Atlas Drill Grinder. I bought a cabinet last week and in one of the drawers were 2 NOS 7" grinder wheels.

I think they moved it because someone thru the collet in with a drill sticking way to far out and the wheel thru it all back out the top. Putting it so it grinds on the backside removes the auto eject feature.

ive got a drill doc I wish yo would have shown how you push the bit thru the collet to make another grind picture that you just tap the butt of the bit a little and hope its not to much to grind
135 degree points are very commo0n and are preferred on stainless steels and other tough alloys.
I use a small oil/wet stone to finish up my freehand sharpening from/on a sorta coarse wheel. Makes a big difference, wish I'd thought about it a long time ago! Real pain trying to grind down/thin the web, lip-relief, split-point, with the rounded edges of my wheels, wouldn't have any wheels left if they were always dressed nice. Also, Sell Out, no way, never crossed my mind, you're the least likely Pimp on UA-cam!

They bought an expensive Darex at a shop I worked at but eventually people got tired of monkeying with it and went back to using the bench grinder and the old Darex just sat in a corner gathering dust and spiderwebs,a pitiful sight.

@@mrpete222 For some reason Vevor became the subject of an investigation into electrical safety and so they can't sell electrical products in the UK at the moment. They have issued quite a long recall list of 'potentially unsafe' electrical products. But I'm seeing the same products sold on other platforms here so I don't know why Vevor has been singled out. I bought the Drill Doctor 360x which is quite basic (but expensive here in UK). A DD500 will cost you 110USD but over here that same product will cost £180 (230USD). Cheers

One possibly huge flaw with anything Vevor is replacement parts. I could not find a CBN nor an SDC wheel for replacing a worn wheel. You can bet that they will wear as they are Chineseum.
A couple of months ago, I researched that and the wheels are available from other companies.
Others have told me that they are not very good with spare parts or repairs
@@mrpete222 Unfortunately, unless you know what works for many Vevor tools for replacements, they do not offer much. I have purchased a number of Vevor products, they are fulling my needs but I know for any service on a plasma cutter, it is probably a disposable. Just bringing this up for anyone interested in Vevor. If it is not listed online, writing them for assistance is futile. You would think they would source wear items to set themselves above other Chineseum marketers. Harbor Freight is learning and many of their products have improved.

I have a drill dr. It has been frustrating! The cams wear out, if the collet is loose in the grinding fixture the results are very poor, especially on small diameter drills.
I actually have never used my drill doctor. Hope to make a video of it someday, but it seems so cheap.

I do not think that the Vevor grinder is capable of sharpening and mills. There is nothing in the directions about it whatsoever.
