Thank you for taking the time to show us the inner workings. I'm wanting to make the switch to the AZ Hives myself, but was not sure which brand to get. One has the feeder like yours and another has a bottle feeder setup. One thing I've not been able to find is plastic foundation. I am only thinking about it because the plan is to have 60 to 96 hives going. Not all at one time, but build up to it each year and maybe plastic foundation would be the way to go. I still prefer the bees make their own wax kind of beekeeper myself.

You can also get pollen extractor that fit on a front side of a hive on a entrance, is like some kind of platform

I am planning on implementing a few AZ hives (and a beehouse) this coming year. I am chomping at the bits to get them and get going.

Are you still using your AZ hives? Any suggestions for managing bees this way?

Greetings, Richard! Please tell me how the frames are attached in this hive? And how is it possible to observe the inter-frame space so as not to crush bees? thank you in advance! With respect.

We are hoping to build a Slovenian beehouse with AZ hives in the next year. We plan on using this in certain areas as a way of combating bears that like to get into hives (we haven't had an issue with bear yet but want to be proactive)

Quando as abelhas propolizarem essa madeira, tudo vai ficar agarrando, acho muito bonito, mas sem funcionabilidade, posta um vídeo dessa caixa com abelhas no uso!

Hello Richard, can you please show us the inside (remove some frames) so we can see how the frames are resting on the transversal bars. Thanks !

Ok will do as i progress with painting etc if you look at the video of me doing bees with my girlfriend in Her Hawaiian style Slovenian bee house, you will see inside the bee hives them selves. Here’s the link: m.ua-cam.com/video/Hj98FbpRiKk/v-deo.html#

Thank you. Yes, in that video one can see the 3 transversal bars (but not that easy to see with all the bees ;) ).
I forgot: did you ask Alice about how she manages the Housel Positionning? You know, the frames she marked with "Y" and inverted-"Y". I do that too, and I would really like to know about her experience.
Richard, thank you very much and merry holidays.

Diego vD your very welcom, we’re all searching for the information from each other! Yes Alicia marks the frames to show which way up the combs are sloping. Brood and honey combs are a little different!

Hi Richard, when operating like a trailer full of slovenian AZ hives, and having an outbreak of AFB in one of those colonies. what and how do you treat / operate? Would you need to un-assemble that unit and burn it, or what is the strategy in such a scenario?
    thanks

How will you add the bees to it? Tilt it forward and dump the bee's in from the back? Looks very well built. Look forward to those videos.

Shreve Soule will probably cut a hole in the top of the hive and make an access roof. When I want to add a extra super I can if I don’t have frames ready. Also a nuc can be put on the top the A’s it grown in to it, I can shake the bees down. It will give me more options! Good question!!

Yes and no,there's usually a tray used to insert the bees, but the key is to insert the queen anyway, the rest will follow.

WoW, lucky man and a very nice early christmas pressy. The only thing i might be worried about is them being so well and preciselly made is our damp climate may make things stick as the wood swells. thanks fore shareing.

Derek Greenhalgh hi Derek, Tay May be an issue but seeing the same hives in Hawaii perform in one of the wettest areas I can’t see this being a problem but will keep you updated! Thanks for your comment.

Suzanne Brouillette imports these hives from Slovenia. I have 24 of them in my bee house, a former chicken coop beautifully renovated. She also hosts apiary tours in Slovenia where you visit many beehouses and talk to beekeepers and learn how they raise bees in these hives. www.slovenianbeekeeping.com/home.html

Hello I got my AZ hive from her too. Although I lost my beehouse before I could populate it with bees.
Now I moved and am recovering from my loss. I'm looking forward to hiving some bees into the AZ.
SB is a delight to work with.

Looks like a show hive , and very painful to manage.

    • @richardnoel3141
      @richardnoel3141  6 років тому

TuZa132 I can assure you it’s not. Never say so unless you’ve tried it! I admit I was a little skeptics before I started using them. Every hive works in different scenarios! You have to try before you know what works for you!

@@richardnoel3141 I have hives from every popular system (dadant , farrar , langstroth-rut) wooden and poly.
Just by looking at that hive you are showing the internal space looks equal to 2 deeps dadant or 4 supers (farrar) where I live (Bulgaria) that space is not enough in the active season.
By April-May all that space will be overflowing with bees and honey and they will sworn just before the first main honey flow.
The frames move easy now but after 1-2 seasons with all the propolis and wax buildup they will be impossible to move.
Slow to maintain , that can be said for dadant aswell every hive that you have to move individual frames is slow and for hoby beekeepers only.
I can go on but that is more than enough.
To be fair I can't see any good use for this hive, only negatives.
Maybe you can show and share how do you see it from your perspective.
