The Gummy Minnow is a super realsitic baitfish pattern that works very well for minnow eating ocean species. The Gummy Minnow can be tied on several different color variations, such as Brown, Olive, Blue and Pearl. The Gummy Minnow is simple, in that it is only made of 2 materials (Crystal Skin and Eyes). But the Gummy Minnow in not necessarily easy to tie. The Crystal Skin or "Sili Skin" can be very difficult to work with. It is super sticky and clings to anything. Once you get the hang of this fly and get used to working with Crystal Skin, you can begin to crank them out!

Hook: #1/0 - #06 Tiemco 811S
Thread: White 100 Denier Veevus GSP
Body: Pearlescent Thin Crystal Skin or Sili Skin
Back: Moss Green Thin Crystal Skin or Sili Skin
Overcoat: Clear Thin Crystal Skin or Sili Skin
Eyes: Super Pearl 3/16" Stick On Eyes
Glue: Loon Hard Head

well done. i used to be obsessed with tying this pattern but when all is said and done it is the fly to use for dead drifting. the fly really has a specific value in fish catching. much better flies in terms of tying and fish catching.

Well tied. The pattern seems stiff but I guess it would work well in certain conditions. Like when fish blitz small silvery bait fish. Still, easier to tie patterns might work just as well in that scenario.

I’ve tied several of these, having trouble with them rolling! They seem to want to flail like a falling leaf when tied flat like this. Compared mine to the store bought ones and umpqua really tied theirs more narrow.

I have to agree with two of your other comments. Cool fly, I'd love to tie land fish a few but I can't find the pearlescent crystal skin anywhere. Orvis, Cabela's, local fly shop, nothing. Where do you get this stuff?????
