    In a game I was running about a year ago, one of my players was a Cleric of Knowledge who was a follower of Deneir. He did a bunch of work with scrolls and cartography, and whenever he would use his abilities in combat, he would always let loose his war cry of "By the power of the written word!" before casting any of his divine spells

    "What happened to Deneir?" really is a question that I hoped you'd be able to answer.
    My character is a cleric of Oghma and the bard of our party was educated by the church of Deneir, so both me and the other player were wondering about this.
    My hypothesis is that, with the second sundering, the return of Mystra and the weave not needing any more stabilising, he could simply return. But I do hope we'll get an answer some day.
    By the way, I wouldn't really call Deneir and Oghma "brother gods", since Deneir is more in a subordinate position together with Milil.
    As always, I love your videos!

    • @KingZolem
      @KingZolem 3 роки тому +3

      That's also how I decided it happened. As it was explained to the PCs it was as if the weave were a rope snapped in two with both ends being yanked violently apart. Deneir basically jumped in between and grabbed the two ropes, keeping it from getting worse but the strain was too much for him to actually pull the rope back together and so he was stuck there. Mystra coming back was like the rope filled in its own gap and was no longer being torn apart so Deneir could just leave, his duty fulfilled.

    • @antwan1357
      @antwan1357 6 років тому +8

      Cadderly is so overpowered in everything except aging,and only because he viewed it as moral . He actually chose to be mortal . I think it was the only way to keep his powers in check. Cause reading everything Cadderly literally has every divine spell without preparation but still has the spell slots in limits making for a very prepared spellcaster ,albeit with a strict limit.

    I also stumbled upon an article which I quote:
    "During the Sundering the worlds of Toril and Abeir (which were united during the Era of Upheaval) are being separated from each other. During this time, the various gods are creating "chosen" mortals who are intended to bring power to the gods, in the hope that when "things are settled" these gods will have the power required to remain a god. There seems to be confusion amongst the gods as to what Ao actually has in mind as he re-writes things.
    Noted events during the Sundering are the diminishing of Spellplague effects, magic changing its nature to the way it worked in the past, such that old spellbooks work and recent ones do not. "The Weave" has new prominence, and most importantly for this question, various gods are found to either not be dead, to be re-united, or to be recreated through various events. It seems that in the various divine schemes to "get enough followers" all divine who have a "chosen", get chosen to remain a god, in a fun twist of the meaning of the "chosen"."
    Hope this answers your question! (I could swear I read it somewhere too but I could not find the proper source)

When denir answers after writing himself into the meta text one of his main priests gain close to wizardly abilities and he didn't really have to pray for them. He just thinks what he needs and that manifests as if he prayed.

    I did something kinda neat with Deneir, but I'm not on the computer that has my document! Need to cloud these bad boys.
    Here's a probably wrong catch-up of what happened when Deneir disappeared as canon:
    In 1385DR, the goddess Mystra is killed and the Weave which enables magic in Toril is about to be killed with her. In an attempt to save the Weave, Deneir writes/weaves himself and also the Metatext into the Weave and manages to have the weave not be destroyed but still the Spellplague happens which is a whole thing.
    At around the same time, Cadderly Bonaduce and some other totally unimportant no-name losers are fighting the Ghost King, which is a big ol' baddy but also is three different big ol' baddies in one. Cadderly is a Chosen of Deneir, and has a Bunch of Epic Powers. As Deneir disappears into the Weave, Cadderly gets a Bunch More Epic Powers and beats the Ghost King up, who then retreats into the Shadowfell to recharge. Ghost King come back, gets beat up again, and then Cadderly jumps on into the Shadowfell (with some help) and he beats the Ghost King up there as well. But since the Ghost King could maybe come back to life in the Shadowfell, Cadderly forever guards the Toril-Shadowfell bridge that now exists where the battle took place in a super dope cathedral that Cadderly built using his Epic Powers a while back. Some stuff happens and some time passes, and since Deneir doesn't exist and neither does Cadderly kind-of, Spirit Soaring falls into disrepair and presumably some baddies move in but who knows? The cathedral was directly tied to Cadderly's life-force or something and it broke when he left Toril.
    Here's where I deviated, and made up my own history.
    Around 1400DR, some time after the biggest baddest parts of the Spellplague, Cadderly Bonaduce has slowly grown in strength and, lo and behold, has been given the powers and god portfolio as Deneir! Badabing badaboom. He is now Deneir. This is possibly a reward from on high, or the intention of Old Deneir upon his incorporation into the Weave. Not important.
    Pretty quickly, Cadderly (now Deneir) takes on a Chosen, who he sends into the Shadowfell to find and destroy the Ghost King, or what's left of them. Which is a big success! The Chosen, whose name I've forgotten, finds the Ghost King, who is now a Shadowfell-themed dragon with red crystal scales, has a big fight, and wins. The Chosen returns to Toril and dies on the spot, and New Deneir seals the rift off behind them permanently. New Deneir disappears, but Spirit Soaring remains, and is in great condition now.
    In the years between 1400 and the 1480s, Spirit Soaring sends out a subtle call to people likely to follow Deneir, and the people come. The cathedral slowly fills its halls with brainiacs and priests and stuff and it becomes as Cadderly Bonaduce originally intended; a home for followers of all good-aligned gods to study and to share knowledge. A badass cathedral-library. As well, a thriving community grows up in the foothills and plains around Spirit Soaring, stretching out to the nearby Impresk Lake. While Deneir hasn't revealed himself, he is still generally prayed to and recognized as the prevailing god of this place.
    After the Second Sundering in 1487: Deneir is back in full force, there's a city-state in Impresk that isn't there in canon.
    I spent way too much time recreating this information and typing this out while I'm between houses instead of waiting until my main PC is setup at the new place and I could have just copy/pasted. There is a lot of extra stuff I have left out, but this is the stuff that directly pertains to Deneir.
