    Let me know if there are any juggling terms I didn’t mention that you don’t know or had a hard time learning when you started! I’ll make another video answering them! ☺️

    • @Foresight42
      @Foresight42 3 роки тому +3

      The "stealing" section should probably also mention the alternate team "take-outs" (I've heard "take-outs workshop" vs "stealing workshop" almost equally) and "replacement" for putting an object back into the pattern. You could also cover integrating stealing in passing with "manipulator", "intercepts", and "carries", it makes explaining passing routines to newbies much easier.
      Other common terms that might be confusing to new jugglers:
      - symmetric vs asymmetric patterns
      - Multiplex (and related terminology like duplex, triplex, squeeze catch, etc.)
      - Zip (common-ish term for a siteswap 1 throw that isn't intuitive)
      - Spins (vs. pirouette vs. 360/720/etc.)
      - half-shower (contrast with shower)
      - flourishes
      - flats
      - lift bounce vs. force bounce
      There's multiple videos worth of all the different passing terminology, there's so many esoteric terms, but not sure it's your target audience. You can't even google "hefflish" to learn it, it's mostly tribal knowledge.

      Term for adding a club to the pattern with your foot?

    • @TaylorTries
      @TaylorTries  3 роки тому +2

      @@Foresight42 I had all those non-passing terms already on my list for the next one, so I'm glad to hear you think they're important too! I admittedly am not a huge passer myself. I know most of the terminology for passing but not well enough to confidently include them at the moment. But I think you're right that they would be helpful for jugglers to know! Perhaps I can make a collaboration "juggling passing terminology" video with a friend of mine who is a passing pro :) Thanks for the suggestions!

      @@TaylorTries There's definitely a dirth of club passing tutorial videos out there, and the few that do exist don't come anywhere near the production value and detail of your tutorials. I think because it's a collaborative act, the bulk of teaching occurs only in-person in a sort of teacher-apprentice type arrangement. Unfortunately that really limits knowledge sharing to those who have the opportunity to attend festivals and juggling groups, unlike solo juggling where you can find multiple video tutorials for basically any trick or pattern.

    I wonder if there's any useful term (one word or short phrase) to describe juggling asymmetrical patterns in, what I call it, "the other way" or "the other side". For example: siteswaps of even length. When a right-handed person juggles ss 53 continuously it's easier to throw 5's from right and 3's from their left hand. How to call a 53 when they throw 5's from left and 3's from right?
    When I explain this, it takes too many words and is irritating even for me who says it. I for example say: "My record of 7531 on the weaker side is 30 rounds", or "My record of 7531 when I throw 7's from my left hand is 30 rounds" (english is not my first language btw).
    Is there any general way to say it in a neat, short way? Like "My record of [short magic phrase ] 7531 is 30 rounds"? Anybody? If there isn't, maybe should it be invented? What do you think?

    Well, that was a lot of information in a very short time. I'm glad I learned it bit by bit and not all at once. A point of history. I learned to juggle in California in 1977. When I learned, every juggler I met called them clubs. Fast forward seven years or so later, and every juggler I met called them pins. I always wondered why they changed. Then I stopped going to IJA conventions though I never stopped juggling and I had no idea that at some point they started calling them clubs again. For awhile there no one I knew called them clubs but me. Once again, I don't know why that changed. I was also taught that juggling was having more objects than hands. Then contact juggling came around (or at least I never knew of it until Michael Moshen was in Labyrinth). So now I guess the first definition is passe.
    There is a four ball pattern that is a low arch and a high arch so I don't know why that wouldn't be called a cascade. You didn't mention multiplex juggling. Is that still a thing? And I never heard of side swaps until you mentioned it in a video. Then again I haven't been in the IJA in years.
    Also I remember when joggling started and the first IJA convention that included joggling. My friend Andy Swan (Swan Bros. Circus) got into it and did quite well and lost a bunch of weight.

    Thanks for another great video, Taylor! I wanted to share with you a juggling term that I came up with: "uggling". Uggling, much like the "flash" has two definitions. A) Uggly juggling (when you're doing a consistent pattern and it looks horrendous but somehow you're making it work), and B) As you might have guessed, when your juggling props are Uggs. Haven't tried it, but I'm sure it's not a thing. lol. Can't say thank you enough--your videos have really helped me get into juggling (and some uggling) over the last 5 months. Keep up the great work!

    Don't think I'll ever get used to the term toss over throws. In the UK tossing is something you do in private ;)

    I think this is very helpful for beginners! I don't remember how I learned all these terms, I just feel like I suddenly knew them, but a video like this would have been si helpful.
