Oh my goodness. I’m sure now I have enough to last me the rest of my life. Food is probably the only thing I’ll need to buy for a long time. I’m 52 but am sure I don’t need clothes, shoes etc for the rest of my life!
Underconsumption has been a way of our family's life economically and financially. I was actually surprised now that it has a "name" now hahahahah 😅. For us, it was just mindful use and spending of material possesions and resources :-) Thanks for the video.
Agree this is a way of life, but not everyone's way of life. I'm thankful it's gained popularity so that more people can learn about the benefits for mindful and intentional purchasing. And what a blessing to grow up in a household where you learned these skills at home. I wish it was taught in schools.
Gonna disagree with the shoes and bras…I have big breasts so bras last maybe 3 years TOPS and that’s with rotating our which bras I wear daily and washing them gently & regularly Don’t let shoes get raggedy, you will end up spending more on physical therapy or surgery when you damage something internally (like tendons ligaments or bones) than you’re saving on shoes…or you will get a hefty urgent care bill when something small that wouldn’t affect a newer shoe pierces a worn our shoe and gets stuck in your foot
Yes. I wear out shoes- Hiking shoes- every 3 months. I walk a lot. About 10km a day (like 7 miles?). I have knee arthritis and can’t stand without shoes for more than a couple min without pain. But with the right shoes and extra insoles I can keep walking a lot. I recommend insoles with hard plastic sections, especially in the heel. And I have small breasts but still after 2 years bras are pretty bedraggled.
They don't make 'em like they used to! I have the same problems with bras. I've been buying the same brand since I was 16, and a few years ago I noticed a drastical change in material. Very cheap, and not durable.
You're doing it right. These are what I've been doing for 35 years 😊. Buying 2nd hand ( used), means it won't fall apart. I'll mend and darn and fix all I can, and enjoy our clothes and tools and vintage everything. None of what we own is flimsy or poorly made. Quality will show every time.
100% agree with buying quality. After college when I started to build up my housewares I bought quality items that I still use today. Most are in excellent condition. Those that aren't I've been able to get replacements because of the lifetime warranties.
I would love to find a pair of shoes that will last several years. I bought some Sketchers for about $80 and they got holes in the bottom after 6 months.
I hear you. Don't want to sound like my dad, but they sure don't make things like they used to. Have you watched the Buy Now documentary? Reminds me of planned obsolescence.
Buy and live how you want - but you'll be first to be borrowing like a parasite from your neighbor in an emergency or asking for a ride if you don't have a car - noone owes you anything if you decide to live with nothing.
I am going to do a no buy year that should help under consume..
Yay! congrats on committing to this. I might do a 2024 round up video that might help inspire. Stay tuned.
@TidywithSPARK awesome thank you
So basically don't buy crap...
That's one way to put spin it.
Underconsumption core is basically no buy year, eco living, empties/use it up hashtags and minimalism all in one.

That's incredible! I love that you've got so much gratitude for what you already own. Kudos and thank you for your comment!

Love your video! Great points and I like that you note “enough” is different for different people. ❤
Thank you! Yes, I'm just a guide and there are so many variations of underconsuming that can work for so many different situations. Appreciate you!

Great points, thanks for sharing your perspective. I use inserts and they help a lot.
