Pause at 35:37 and you can see tears in the professor's eyes too...I had not noticed this detail before and it's been so many years...I guess my vision was too blurry from all the crying.

I played this game with my sister when I was in fourth grade. I'm not a person to cry over a video game, but when Layton took off his hat we both bawled on the floor. :(

At 25:49 it's good to see that Level-5 has learned their lesson about time travel since Dark Cloud 2 (known as Dark Chronicle in Europe). Anyone who's played that game knows how fucked up the time travel was.
They do explain that the parrot was one of the experiments, Subject 1 I believe, but i'm pretty sure you missed that little exchange because you don't talk to people enough. Also, pfft 33:21 I missed this CG the first time through, Layton cockblocking Rosetta by bringing the children to their supplementary lesson
This is the most heartfelt Layton games out here, it was very sincere and was not afraid to tug at one's heartstrings. Plus, the fact that Clive was that boy who's parents died in the explosion, and Layton was the one to convince him otherwise. As well as adding the fact that Clive was about to die in an explosion of his own personal madness is pretty freighting as well (and was smacked by a pipe causing "Super-effective damage"). Seeing Layton cry in the falling snow was AN ENORMOUS BLOW to the fact that he lost the person he loved most, Claire. And then seeing Luke just have to move an ANOTHER ENORMOUS BLOW to the fact that at least he still had Luke. ...I still wonder about what happened to Bill and Dimitri. I know that Dimitri is destroying his notes on time-travel and such, but what became of Bill? Does he feel guilt for what he had done? I don't know personally, I would probably have to dive deeper into the series and I don't want to do that. There aren't really any Layton games after this besides Millionaires' Conspiracy, but that one is pretty infamous for feeling kind of forced and bland at least by some in the community. So... what can I say about Layton after this? Was he alone for the rest of his life and that is why he left Katrielle? Who even is Katrielle? Did he leave her to go see Luke like how he and Luke left Flora to go see the "Future" London? Maybe the anime may explain it, but I don't even know. If Level-5 is still able to survive in some way, some how, then I would be very delighted for a new Layton game in the future with the problem that Luke was talking about, so that we can see how Luke looks as he is older, and can see a nice reunion. The ending may have been sweet-bitter, but it was memorable, it left an impression, and I have to say, even if I am not a COMPLETE Layton fan, that this game was the best the series had to offer.
I remembered this game's sad ending the other day so I decided to watch the whole entire lets play, and I just get to "THERE HAD BETTER BE SOME SILVER LINING" and I just started cackling. Amazing lets play.
according to my calculation if claire come backs to her timeline (after the Explosion) that means that she could be alive back at the present day but this time she is already dead which means she come back when the explosion occurs, which means if claire died at the moment of the explosion that means that for dimitri (the white guy) saw claire died on the explosion that means claire has gone to the future/present day and back to the past which means that when the explosion happend claire was time traveling to the future and back to the day ("where we parted")In 1 second (for the people who was living in young dimitri's timeline) So Claire Time traveled In (according to her timeline) 1 SECOND Which makes some weird time and space complex thingy So Claire time traveled back to her timeline ONLY for her to die because of the time machine explosion
Couldn't they have for shadowed a hospital at the end or something and show Claire's name? What if she didn't die? What if she ended up in a coma for a decade? Or with amnesia? Or both?

this in my opinion is my second faviroute proffesor layton game it is so emotional and the storyline is absouloutely beautiful the ending really got me. also i think lukes english voice actor is better than the american voice actor.

They could have easily fixed Claire's death with just one minor tweak to the writing... just say her body disappeared in the explosion and they assumed it was destroyed, but nope, it turns out she gets to stay in the future after all. They could even have the thing where they THINK she's going to go back to the past to get exploded but then it turns out she gets to stay! (Like I think her body was trying to return to the past because it turns out that atoms have an unstudied property where they "know" what time they belong in and want to be in their proper time, but if she's in the future long enough she could replace all/enough of the atoms of her body with present-day atoms to survive.)
KC I love watching your series, especially I have loved watching you play all the Professor Layton titles for countless hours on end! hoo boy, yup... no happy ending here... elsewise, i personally prefer "lost future" as a title over "unwound future" as it makes a touch more sense in context; referring to the fact that Herschel and Claire's future together was "lost" due to the explosion at the lab. I guess if you wanted a title that fit with the overarching clock/time theme then "unwound" could work also, but it just doesnt have quite the same weight imho
I think they wasted a opportunity here to have Dimitri and Bill talk to each other. Maybe Dimitri is still mad at Bill for killing Claire. And Don Paolo should have been there when Dimitri explains that Clarie doesn't have much time left.

At 25:49 it's good to see that Level-5 has learned their lesson about time travel since Dark Cloud 2 (known as Dark Chronicle in Europe). Anyone who's played that game knows how fucked up the time travel was.

Four years I've been waiting for someone to answer lol.
This is the most heartfelt Layton games out here, it was very sincere and was not afraid to tug at one's heartstrings.
Plus, the fact that Clive was that boy who's parents died in the explosion, and Layton was the one to convince him otherwise. As well as adding the fact that Clive was about to die in an explosion of his own personal madness is pretty freighting as well (and was smacked by a pipe causing "Super-effective damage").
Seeing Layton cry in the falling snow was AN ENORMOUS BLOW to the fact that he lost the person he loved most, Claire. And then seeing Luke just have to move an ANOTHER ENORMOUS BLOW to the fact that at least he still had Luke.
...I still wonder about what happened to Bill and Dimitri. I know that Dimitri is destroying his notes on time-travel and such, but what became of Bill? Does he feel guilt for what he had done? I don't know personally, I would probably have to dive deeper into the series and I don't want to do that.
There aren't really any Layton games after this besides Millionaires' Conspiracy, but that one is pretty infamous for feeling kind of forced and bland at least by some in the community.
So... what can I say about Layton after this? Was he alone for the rest of his life and that is why he left Katrielle? Who even is Katrielle? Did he leave her to go see Luke like how he and Luke left Flora to go see the "Future" London? Maybe the anime may explain it, but I don't even know.
If Level-5 is still able to survive in some way, some how, then I would be very delighted for a new Layton game in the future with the problem that Luke was talking about, so that we can see how Luke looks as he is older, and can see a nice reunion.
The ending may have been sweet-bitter, but it was memorable, it left an impression, and I have to say, even if I am not a COMPLETE Layton fan, that this game was the best the series had to offer.

I remembered this game's sad ending the other day so I decided to watch the whole entire lets play, and I just get to "THERE HAD BETTER BE SOME SILVER LINING" and I just started cackling. Amazing lets play.
according to my calculation if claire come backs to her timeline (after the Explosion) that means that she could be alive back at the present day but this time she is already dead which means she come back when the explosion occurs, which means if claire died at the moment of the explosion that means that for dimitri (the white guy) saw claire died on the explosion that means claire has gone to the future/present day and back to the past which means that when the explosion happend claire was time traveling to the future and back to the day ("where we parted")In 1 second (for the people who was living in young dimitri's timeline) So Claire Time traveled In (according to her timeline) 1 SECOND Which makes some weird time and space complex thingy So Claire time traveled back to her timeline ONLY for her to die because of the time machine explosion

They could have easily fixed Claire's death with just one minor tweak to the writing... just say her body disappeared in the explosion and they assumed it was destroyed, but nope, it turns out she gets to stay in the future after all. They could even have the thing where they THINK she's going to go back to the past to get exploded but then it turns out she gets to stay! (Like I think her body was trying to return to the past because it turns out that atoms have an unstudied property where they "know" what time they belong in and want to be in their proper time, but if she's in the future long enough she could replace all/enough of the atoms of her body with present-day atoms to survive.)

hoo boy, yup... no happy ending here... elsewise, i personally prefer "lost future" as a title over "unwound future" as it makes a touch more sense in context; referring to the fact that Herschel and Claire's future together was "lost" due to the explosion at the lab. I guess if you wanted a title that fit with the overarching clock/time theme then "unwound" could work also, but it just doesnt have quite the same weight imho
