Glad to know CSX is finally making heritage units. I also like how they’re giving it a different take than others. Being different is what makes you special
Special all right , so special , they TOTALLY dropped the ball here dude. And they have the stones to brag about a half assed job , no less. PAINT THE NOSE YOU FOOLS !!
I so much appreciate your efforts. My father was a dedicated employee of the Chessie system (over 40 years) then known as the C&O Railroad. What a wonderful tribute you have provided. Thank you!
As an 11 year old girl who loved cats and trains, when I first saw this logo on railcars in 1974, I knew it was a cat. Just about every train I would see after that I'd be looking for the cat head. I would later learn from a train magazine that Chessie is a sleeping kitten. I've loved trains all my life, and now that Chessie has made a comeback...I'm now in love with her again.
They're not going to paint the nose/cab! yes this is about money/stockholders That’s it that’s all they care about. It’s shocking they even did this but for them to go back and pull these locomotive out of service. because real fans are unhappy with the design...that's highly unlikely! CSX is about marketing they are brand and even on the heritage units. CSX is still marketing their brand on the front so it can’t be missed! That’s their thinking marketing their brand Comes above all else!
I'm glad to see that CSX has finally decided to do the heritage locomotives. The positive feedback of 911, 3194, & 1776 probably helped motivate this decision. Been waiting since Lionel did some nice fantasy engines 10 yr ago. 200yr anniversary is coming up soon
I grew up a couple miles from the old C&O mainline that ran from Columbus to Toledo. Me and my best friend (who is now a CSX engineer) used to ride our bikes down to the tracks during those long lazy summer days in the late 70’s/early 80’s to watch Chessie System trains coming from or going to Parsons yard in Columbus. To this day the Chessie System scheme is still my all time favorite and it broke my heart when it started to disappear (which was happening at the same time as when we were losing cabooses off of the end of trains).
Like, love or hate them is irrelevant... CSX is about marketing their brand money/stockholders are their bottom line. Of course anybody got the right to come on UA-cam and complain hate and do all of that. That’s first amendment rights so type away about what won’t change CSX trains in the design of the hair G-Unit, the CSX making sure even with the heritage unit CSX is the brand that you’re going to see first coming your way and that’s what makes them money! And that’s all they care about!
This is an amazing looking HERITAGE UNIT to represent the CHESSIE SYSTEM! I wish I lived near where CSX runs to get lucky enough to catch this beautiful piece riding the High Iron! Cheers from Laurel, Delaware USA.
Great looking unit! For those wondering, The CSX letters stand for: C standards for Chessie, S Stands for Seaboard System, and the X doesn't stand for any railroad, but all the employees that make up CSX, but Railfans these days call it Xpress. Can't wait to see more of these heritage units!
"X" actually stands for the word corporation when multiple stock listing companies merge from individual status to form a separate holding company that will replace the original merged entities.
That is a great initiative. Looking forward to see more Heritage units. U"n shure the guys at the shop will have other exciting Projects to develop and enjoy. There are ao many great schenes they can create (ACL, SAL L&N).
I saw this unit about 2 weeks ago in Hopkins County, KY - by total coincidence - it was paired with another unit and then a DPU in the middle - moving coal out from one of the mines. It was dark and I didn't have my camera but even at night it looked damn good and shined. I was wondering if there's a way to find out (or who to contact) if it would be back by the Hopkins yard so I could get a good set of pictures. Always loved the old Chessie livery and thought it was the coolest thing when CSX came out with this Heritage Unit so the old Chessie colors could shine again --
This is probably my favorite of the csx heritage units so far (until more of them come out). I just think csx has done a great job. i just think they're special painted units are really fantastic. the 911, the 1776, the 3194, the 4568, and both the 1827 and the 1973. i think they should do another unit for the pride in service program. (one honoring emt's). the idea i had was the unit painted white with the orange stripes representing a ambulance. with the fire police and ema shelds and a print screen on the windows with the ems logo. and the charity logos like the 911 and 3194 carry. that's what i thought of (also it should come with the boxcar logo even though they don't use that anymore i do miss that). also another one a tribute to the state of Kentucky (since the tornadoes almost 2 years ago and the flood a year ago). though i mostly think of the tornadoes effected the state more. hope they can do all of that one day.
@@ronniefarnsworth6465 I think the fade from CSX scheme to the heritage scheme is intentional, "pulling out past behind us" or smth like that was their slogan, I like it
@@Axel-mz2wh Oh I know why they did it. My point is CSX and BNSF management are "Cheap" and don't really care about their "Heritage" like NS did, NS proved it !!! Your also Very Young, I've been a Railfan since the early 1960s Thank God I seen all the great roads, units & color !!
Another great heritage scheme! Keep it up! Can’t wait to see the rest. Keeping the cab CSX and blending to the heritage paint behind it looks really good! Great idea!
I think the fade on the CSX heritage units looks weird. If they wanted to maintain a slice of corporate identity, I feel that just the yellow nose with the company logo would suffice. A unique opportunity to honor a stalwart and beloved past is marred by modern corporate centralism. They should have followed the NS prototype, which pleased everyone. Aside from that, the Chessie paint job looks sharp. Kudos to the paint shop craftsmen for a job well done.
This looks cool, glad to see a chessie heritage unit made. Sad to see idiots not giving a f**k about the concept of the past to present paint scheme and complaining about the heritage units they have asked for years. I myself personally like this and would be cool to see it in person on the rails. Nice job csx!

I agree with you on that. Cory Mears
@yousmelllikefart What does that mean? Cory Mears
I wish CSX would bring back the Chessie paint scheme. Looks so different compared to other railroads
Glad the employees got to do a cool project like this.
They did a piss poor job on top of it

It's been out on the rails for about 2 days
50 years on from the Chessie’s inception, I’m glad to see there’s something big to commemorate this short but impactful railroad company.

This Will Always Remember Chessie The Railroad Cat For Her Family & Legacy At Museums, Rolling Stock, Merchandise & People At CSX God Bless Chessie
amen
I gotta say this is one of the best heritage schemes ever done, and for the Chessie.
What????
One of the best ever?

Awesome! Beautiful! I'm grateful CSX is doing heritage units!👍
My mom’s favorite railroad is the chessie system. She was born in 1972, one away from this number. Pretty cool unit, hopefully it comes to SoCal soon
Wow ! That is so cool ! Brings back a lot of great memories !
Thanks for sharing !
Looks good ready to see more and more heritage units
Good job Guys on making this Locomotive.
I really love it!!!!!! Thank you for bringing it back. I remember seeing the chessie loco when I was a little kid
An amazing job by the Waycross paint shop again. This heritage unit will probably be my favorite. I sure hope it ends up out west sometime soon!
Happened to see Chessie in Ashland VA, it looks awesome in person! Fantastic job CSX!
I absolutely love how you guys are doing these units. Very cool. Keep up the great work
Cool locomotive CSX! Thank you!
1973 looks great, y’all did a great job in this!
The 1973 Chessie Heritage unit was in Smithfield, NC seen by myself. Beautiful Locomotive.
This heritage unit is by far one of my favorites behind NS 8102 (Pennsylvania).
Absolutely fantastic!!!
Greetings from Spain.

@PAcentralRailfan That is true.
X stands for railroad. Many reporting marks have it as the last letter.
Crash
Smash
Xplosion
"X" actually stands for the word corporation when multiple stock listing companies merge from individual status to form a separate holding company that will replace the original merged entities.
I believe the X also stood for any further companies added or any other forms of transportation
Hi from england wow! absolutely loving these heritage units well done c.s.x.
Can't wait to see what road is next to be released!
Why the heck is the Chessie lettering so small? Plenty of room to make it bigger like it was on the actual Chessie engines.
The tiny lettering looks terrible, and why is there a Chessie C on the back of this engine? The cat was only on the front of Chessie locos.
Can all of you guys back me up if anyone get triggered by putting hate comments on me when I say this engine is Hideous and terrible
I love this heritage unit and I would love if they did a full paint of it
Seen that before!
Nice paint job! Caught this on 16th of September 2023!
I got to see this locomotive in Ashland Virginia and it really made me happy because a lot of my family used to work for chessie back in the day
That looks fantastic! Slick paint job...What's next...Seaboard System?
I hope Seaboard is next.
L&N for me or even C&O and WMR
This was the first CSX Heritage Unit I saw, really cool to see!
Heck ya...It looks great guys!
Thanks for making vid CSX
Absolutely love seeing this!! Fantastic job guys!! Send this one through Tipp City OH!! Paint more!!
Great paint job!
As a kid, I loved the Chessie engines. Nothing like seeing the little kitty on the big train. 😍
Can't wait to see this all over VRF 😁 Well done guys 🎉
CSX #1973 “Chessie System Heritage Unit” looks beauty!
Can’t wait to visit and see this firsthand!!
I LOVE THAT ENGINE!!!!!!Cory Mears
One of the best ones so far
It definitely takes me back seeing the Chessie cat. Miss those Old locomotives.
This is amazing. Love Chessie.
Thank you. Hope you also do a B&O heritage
Me too, I also hope for a chessie one.

Full paint them though.

Love the cat
why the lettering so small?
Hoping it makes its way up to philly!! I can see the freight rail line out my window while I'm at work!
Somehow I don't recall chesse units have stupid csx paint on them
Needs a touchup. Kind of hoping they can update it at some point!
hey CSX is there a meaning for the X in CSX?
If you guys ever reopen the Illinois sub the first train needs to be the C&O and the B&O heritage units back to back
So. Which one is next? How many will there be? I'm hoping for an SCL, ACL, L&N, and a different take on a Conrail unit.
I love this!!!

I agree, this unit looks nice.
I’d prefer it without the fade, but it is still really cool.
Cool story bro. Doesn’t change the fact that this looks like absolute garbage.
Nobody asked for an heritage unit with a fade. What are you talking about?
What about a Seaboard Coastline, heritage locomotive hence Chessie Seaboard Exchange
I'm excited for 1976
They’ve finally done it, 11 years after NS
It looks ok!
This paint scheme does not deserve hate. It's very cool to be fair.
