What Does Disney Cruise Line Do During A Hurricane?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 жов 2024
- On September 6th, 2017, I was a crew member on the Disney Fantasy, after evacuating all crew from Disney's privet island, Castaway Cay, and disembarked every single guest back in Orlando, we sailed right back out in an effort to remain a safe distance away from the deadly category 6 hurricane, named Hurricane Irma, which was headed straight for us.
Here's what happened in the days that followed.

I love how the bosses are like “ok everyone I know we’ve been working hard all day but now we must go to a mandatory rager on deck 12” lol
So everyone was getting payed to basically babysit an empty cruise ship with all the amenities open for crew? That’s awesome.
loganbaileysfunwithtrains well in a storm
you risk being on the ship if it capsizes
Some people think it’s fun
That was cool to see the crew getting to enjoy the ship like the guest, did u guys get to stay in guest rooms?
No, but we did get a tour of the Walt and Roy suits. We also got to eat food from the Palo/ Remy restaurants since they had the food onboard. The chefs came down to the crew mess and cooked for us there.
Hi I'm Ri wow awesome! I’d love to stay in the Walt and Roy suits they are super expensive! I love Palo have got to experience Remy yet it’s on the bucket list!
It's very nice to see that they made sure everyone had a nice time and wasn't afraid even with the circumstances. I'm sure you guys worked and caught up on maintenance and what not but it's nice that you all also had time for fun and relaxation.
It really helped that we sailed far enough the weather didn't change much. I think it only rained once? We did do a lot of training and maintenance, obviously I couldn't film during those times. It really was a once in a lifetime experience for all onboard.
I love Commodore Tom. He’s incredible and his words were so well spoken! I also love how in a hurricane disney look is still in effect. Lmao. I am so happy you are safe & you got to have fun.
Hurricane: I’m gonna really mess up the areas in red.
Disney Cruise Line: Ok We’ll be over here then.
The two people walking on the aqua duck🤣🤣 I want to work on for Disney Cruise Line when I’m older! Looks like so much fun
that was me training a new hire on how to rescue people in the slide
Like a school day without teachers
Nah, a school day without kids
im a warrior baby *kids
We went on the Dream On 9/25/2017. Talked to a crew member we have gotten to know over the years. We were told during that time out at sea everyone was busy working. Never believed him.
to see you guys together makes me wanna work on a cruise ship
That's great, but keep in mind this was an extremely rare instance, despite hurricanes being a common occurrence in Florida. This was the first time DCL canceled any cruises and they have taken steps to not have to do that again in the future. I can't even imagine how much revenue they lost out on.
It is nice seeing that it isn't just the guests that go on board having fun but the staff do also. 😄
I was ON the Fantasy for the cruise that got cut short. It was a stressful few days, and we were sad to get our cruise cut short, but we were happy when we heard that the crew were safe. Glad to look back 2 years later and see that you were able to have some time off - so to speak.
I remember on September 2017 our 4 night cruise got cancelled because of hurricane irma and had to change into a 3 day. Still had fun.
3:27 interesting and somewhat Erie to see several of the fleet gathering with no guests to wait out the storm.
I wondered why the one guy was using the title Commadore but if he was in charge of all the ships in the area that makes sense.
Kind of like what's happening right now....for an extended period of time. Just hanging off the coast of Florida.
@@PMD220S I am thinking many will become hospital ships before this is over. Covid19 threw a wrench in the gears of what is/was normal
I was on a Disney cruise during Hurricane Matthew and it made my cruise a 5 day to a 7 day cruise so it added 2 extra days
How do you feel when you are in the middle of storm?
I'M POSSIBLE I barely felt it. But you feel like normal. I am not sure if it was just not super bad were I was
Honestly this beats hurricane ride outs on land!! Makes me want to work cruise line even more 😂😂
This is really cute! I found it funny at the climbing through the slip and slide tube!
It’s a small world after all when it’s just you and no guests (clearly a pun)
it's funny how it's different from when I was on Carnival Fantasy during this hurricane .. we had full ship, more than 10 days on Sea, no wifi for crew, just overtime every single day, and we barely got paid basic salary. Good that they didn't have guests on board situation would be so different
I just found, and love your videos! This video i thought was special. My 1st Disney Cruise was on The Fantasy immediately after Irma, then again in 2019 after Dorian. Lol. But that 1st one after Irma was the best cruise ever.
I would have been there ;) Glad you were still able to cruise.
So well deserved crew - you all do fabulous hard work
Glad you guys got to enjoy yourselves.
Your having a vacation!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Basically! DCL had never done this before, so nobody really knew what to expect. It was my favorite week working on the ships for sure!
Excellent video and hurricane safety
Oh my god so I went on a cruise in 2017 and this hurricane hit all the places we just left
It was interesting to know what crew do during a hurricane I always wondered that.
Wow. I worked on the Norwegian Majesty MANY years ago, and we did a three day repositioning from Miami to Boston, no pax, and we just drank ourselves stupid for three days.
how cool, right??
Nice
I've been on the disney dream almost a year ago. I enjoyed it
I remember Katrina basically chasing us for a good bit we were like just on the edge of the storm barrier till we got out of the main diagonal past going from cozmel and we lost a day where we got shorter hours just 4 hours at castaway cay as it looked unsure if it could change we got sucj rough eater on the disney magic when I was 10-11 my step dad had to take my sister and me one by one inside from the caged in tennis court the kids club was outside and the storm kinda crept up if my dad didnt hold on tight my 5'0 62lbs frame at that age would have been blown around bad.... scariest time of my life we got back to cape Canaveral a day an a half of the cruise day before the storm got there from the outer bands we got off the boat and they got us sent home within 4 hours but we got a refund and a 2 days pass to disney world and discount on getting a time share because of the experience the water was rough a few friends I made on the lower decks said it was terrifying being by the water they said they felt like it was gonna break the porthole because the water would go so high up they were on 3rd or 4th floor by the front of the boat and the other friend was on 6th floor and it was spraying up to there, my family we were on the 10th floor above the life boats in the dead middle so we didnt feel too much we basically had 4 story waves it was freaky as hell to watch it tho hilariously I rolled out of my bunk when we hit a big wave was pretty funny thank god my sisters bunk was bigger than mine
I can only imagine. I was nervous because they were taking it VERY seriously. I'm glad they did, but it added to the fear that something bad might happen.
I'm sorry you experienced something like that.
Longest run-on sentence ever.
That looked like so much fun
Thats amazing ive even apply for royal carribean and Im thinking trying for Disney ive been a lifeguard for almost a year now so if you know if they are highering for Disney cruises let me know I know this is weird way to go about this but... 😂
I would be so happy if a Herr came to the Disney cruise because than extra 10 days! When it’s really 4...
Knowing that their going to be playing a bunch of movies including marvel makes me want to definitely go.
Were you expected to work a bit while on board? And were all the members on cast away on this ship?
those exhausted bags under eyes tell a story!
Awesome behind the scenes look
I was on that ship and we had to evacuate from the ship but the only flight I could get was to canida
i was on the Carnival Glory the week Irma hit florida, this was before we knew irma was gonna hit
Best Disney cruise ever.
do all staff and crew have to wear shorts on the disney cruise?
Depends on your job/the weather. We were in the caribbean so, shorts were the most comfortable. While I was sailing on the Wonder in Alaska, I would wear thermal leggings under my pants because they were not warm enough.
@@RaisaLynn Well there goes the magic :(
Wow a cruise ship docking in Orlando that sure is magical how did it get across all that land? 😂 that must have took a lot of pixie dust
Port Canavral
I love the Disney cruises I’ve been on all 4 ships
That is awesome!!!!!!
I also got on the dream the cruise after this!!
the entire ship went on the aquaduck 😂
Did you still get paid your normal salary?
I did. I'm not sure how the departments that rely on tips got paid out though.
My wife and I went on a cruise years ago during a hurricane outbreak. Spent one whole day anchored in Miami. Got to Nassau and everything was damaged or destroyed. The main channel was full of sunken boats and yachts. The cruise line's cay island was basically destroyed. Very disappointing cruise, but the crew and captain were awesome! Pays to buy cruise insurance, ours covered any loss due to weather, etc.
Did you guys have work duties? Or was it basically free time to just chill more than not?
We did. It just so happened that we had 3 new hires that week so we had a lot of time dedicated to training. (obviously I couldn't film a lot of that) but for the most part is was really chill for our department.
6:00 I take it the aqua duck was deactivated and some crew wanted to go on it…
Thats effin awesone!! 😁 i envy that
Ahhh so to keep the ship safe, they took it out to sea, that a smart move,
Yeah, your right. Why go out to sea and be able to maneuver away from the storm. They should have backed the Disney F-150 and trailer down the ramp and pulled her out...
Kevin Higgins 😂😂
I was on a Fantasy cruise in 2015 and we got hit by a hurricane.
Which one?
Dang your so lucky now I want to work there
Nice team building!
i miss this ship😍😍
hi Ri!!! Hurricane is one of the most of the dangerous storms. i had family in Tampa, Flordia there also were near hurricane!!! stay safe!!
This was in 2017, and everyone ended up just fine. Thanks for your concern!
Thanks Professor Obvious
Well they never stopped because i boarded the week after the storm.
Does this happen often? Or is it super rare??!!
Is huracain Maria next and I know what's a huracaine
Thank lord! God bless the Disney Cruise Ships
That was cool. #behindthescenes
Was their a lot of guest of a few ? Because I would love a cruise with just a couple hundred instead of 4000
zero guests. Just 1,500 crew.
Not sure if you even attempted to watch the first 30 seconds of the video, but there were no passengers
Hi I'm Ri so luckkyyyyyy
Oh how I wish I could of stayed on board
Hey I was on that cruise
Disney Cruise ship crew members behind the scenes LOL
I hope that ship and that would be good gets in a storm
I hope the mini ship plushes were ok.
This is fantastic
You're fantastic.
Hi I'm Ri Hehe shucks. 🤗
good castmembers hello from france
Love that most employers would make you sit in your room..
So free cruise during hurricane.
Apparently throw down 😂
Who is that ? 😍 @ 4:47 lol
Wait was it crew only like no guest ?????
Yep. They disembarked all guests for their safety.
Hi I'm Ri Were the guests in secure hotels on land then?
If I remember correctly, they helped people change their flights/rent cars/etc to get out of the impacted area before we docked and they disembarked.
@@RaisaLynn Oh great~ I'm glad everybody was safe. ^_^
i was on the voyage on the 26
Im subscribe to this channel? I don’t remember subscribing. But love the content
Wait. There's such thing as a Cat6?
Irma was a Category 5 hurricane, but because it was so big some people were calling it Category 6. Not sure where I heard it, but I had no idea and assumed it was a 6.
You work on a cruise line?
Why is there no water in that Mickey Mouse shaped pool ?
My guess storm running, dont want mikey sloshing everywhere if sea get rough. It safer without water
Do you have a gym on board?
I think they do. Remeber seeing it in another crew veido
This is evidence that everyone is a kid on the inside
BB-8 is best bot
During that time
Cat 5. There is no such thing as cat 6.
This sounds like a prison.
Now all I hear is do do do do do do do.
I was on that ship
Well now you know what we ended up doing after you left. Hope you made it back home okay.
So you work with a cruise line?....?......?,!,,!
Why would you sail? Couldn’t you just keep the ship at the port for the next cruise date to come?
Ashlea G cause the hurricanes that were coming
Big ship in ports get batter and damage by all the stuff in port that the storm blow around. At sea you can do what basicly a run away and get out of the path of the storm
Eddie Canis ahh, I see!! Thank you so much
@@shelbymisty2 your welcome! Next hurricane go to shiptracker.live/ and watch them get out of the way :)
Probably........ sell rides into the eye of the storm 😳
Click fucking bait
Cool to see but not as informative or instructive as i would’ve liked.
What sort of instruction were you looking for?
Hi I'm Ri perhaps something too invasive for you to show. One can assume staff just hangs out on an empty ship but i was expecting more of a step by step structured analysis of the difference between staff having guests and not having guests. And what specific measures the staff takes to shelter on board for a hurricane that they normally don’t do. Never been on a Disney Cruise so this was certainly very interesting and enlightening. Don’t get me wrong i likes the video and found myself watching it again. Like was it really crew members entertaining crew members? That’s what confused me a lot.
