I agree in principle. I would worry that this would mean stronger/more famous players have more freedom to break the less serious rules with more impunity. I don't have a huge issue with a dress code, though I think players should have some say in it. But I can also understand the desire to enforce rules strongly when people with a lot of influence and power try to break them. He aslo chose to criticize the format. Ding had so many reasons to quit but he was way more courageous. Now magnus does this. First fischer then kasparov and now magnus running away from their responsibility. Instead of making the game bigger he chooses to demean it at the biggest stage. Sad. Game is bigger than any player.
I like Magnus a lot in general, but this is the second time he let himself and the chess world down. The first time was when he made allegations against Niemann without having any proof. The second time was when he agreed to tournament rules and then, after having performed poorly for his standards, decided to not comply to the rules. Very unprofessional of him to make this a "matter of principle" (what "principle", BTW?), instead of complying like everyone else. This has a bitter taste, because of Magnus' financial interest in a non-FIDE event. Too much power play, too little sportsmanship.
Where is the PCA now? It was created to cater to Kasparov ‘s interests. That’s why it disappeared quickly. Carlsen just used the dress code as an excuse to leave the tournament as he is a bad loser. Now he wants to follow in his former mentor’s (Kasparov’s) footsteps for the same reasons. Both hurt the world of chess badly.

@@mrjoe5292 Social contract is generally about self-respect through respect of others and agreed-upon rules. But yes, to your point, I agree with Lysander Spooner regarding the constitution, "I didn't sign shit."
Highly recommend u to watch FIDE ceo interview with levy
That would involve watching Levy though.
@@PrometheanRising yes, unfortunately i have to relinquish my principles on particular occasions - this being one of them.
@babelbuilder9912 lmao
would this happen if he was playing well?
He was playing well today with 2 wins and one draw just before this happend.
from who's perspective?
Would they pull that nonsense?
Or
Would he respond this way?
Regardless, he would've withdrawn.
Yes
@JustinSullyCM are you really a CM can we play chess
@JustinSullyCM sir my lichess is limsweatyt i like to play bullet (2155 lichess) we can play casual if you like
Carlson barely organize himself by showing on time. some think he can start new org that is better for everyone else. Magnus is working for himself. it is not wrong. but donot expect he will work for you! fide is not perfect, dress code is dated, it used to separate classes in the society to representing elite sports. now chess is for everyone, so dress should change as well...
Если бы они там одевались как Гриша, просмотры были бы как на UFC
Face saving stunt by Magnus not only to hide his poor performance in the tournament but also further his freestyle chess ambitions against FIDE.
Yes he created a negative buzz against FIDE. Magnus knows all the midwit fans will take his side even though FIDE is simply applying the rules fairly to everyone. No special treatment.
Fide = School
Magnus = Intelligent rebellious back bencher.
Nice glasses though
Don't really have much sympathy for Magnus, here. He's played countless FIDE events- he knows very well the dress code. Even if he honestly forgot when dressing, it's kind of insane to act like the injured party when they attempt to enforce the rules.
Cringe and bootlick-pilled
@@pleb9243 "Someone is posting an opinion contrary to yours! Maybe you should post how you feel, and back it up with your reasoning?
Nah, call them a bootlicker! The shame of your insult will force them to think the same way you do, or at the very least pretend they do out of fear. And once everyone has been forced into thinking your way, there will be no more fascism!"
Ego gambit
Carlsen acted like a prima donna. He played poorly in the tournament and kept sulking. He was late for the games, and he could have easily borrowed those pants from someone on the team without any issue.
He said he won't play, is it by force? 😂
The audacity 😒
you'd be happy to lend him yours, wouldn't you
He has a team of people with him. They could’ve gotten him pants from the hotel, which is a short walk. Could’ve all been solved in 15 minutes.
@@AlRask-j3bWhat s your point?Stupid comment
@@AlRask-j3bis there a not a single person come with magnus
If Magnus and his crew of crypto-bro investors who couldn't care less about the game of chess and want to turn it into cheap "sit on the couch with a beer" entertainment ever get it in their heads to break off from FIDE and pull what Garry Kasparov tried with his PCA organization, quoting Kasparov: "Now I thought we could really unite the chess world. This turned out to be a terrible blunder, the worst of my career."
Magnus is now just bully, he loses and he creates drama....lol ..waiting for days when freestyle chess event would kick this man...
HE IS GOING THROUGH FISHER ARC AS THE OTHER GOAT KASPAROV DID
He was given chance for 2 rounds but he needed to escape for his 60th humiliating position
Too egotistical like fisher
Magnus slowly turning into them old selfish ego maniac chess players
Magnus did this on purpose. He knew the outcome and this is exactly what he wanted, he wanted out. He knew the public would take his side over FIDE.
@@simonthibodeau7082 He got warned and did nothing on purpose. You dont have to be a rocket scientist to see what he is doing.
Magnus always finds a way to create controversy when he is having a bad tournament and wants to quit.
I remember something
Chess rules are pretty concrete, and sponsors set obligations, I don't think the pants request was unreasonable, try wearing jeans in the boxing ring.
I imagine Chess 960 could be come quite big, but I know many like me aren't that interested in it, seems clearly inferior in many ways..
It's a shame that top players can't unify for the good of the game, but that seems to be the way of many human social institutions currently.
plot twist: he was embarrassed by his poor results in the tournament and staged the entire feud with fide to have a cover story for withdrawing out of embarrassment
He was on a potential comback run tho with 2 wins and 1 draw today before he got unpaired. He was 1.5 points behind the leaders with 5 rounds to go. Was not looking great but not terrible at all.
Magnus is in a bad situation many times in other tournaments after the first day. He comes back and win everything. Even recently in GCT he is much behind wei yi and everyone though wei yi will win the tournament. Magnus won 10 games in a row and won the tournament
This is childish logic.
you reason like a kid
Another hissy fit by Diva Magnus, he has done nothing but harm to the game ever since he gave up his title. Bad publicity after bad publicity + turning the WC title into a shadow of its former self.
Magnus thinks he owns chess... He abandoned a medal ceremony, he quited when he lost against Hans, he quited World Championship, now he quits Rapid and Blitz... He can make his own tournaments and wear whatever the f he wants and make his own rules.
Fide and him has been at it for years and now he said he didnt want this no more. There is alot more to it then this.
@@fragfen77Fide has especially been at him when he stopped playing in the world championship. Not because it killed the chess boom, but because due to that, they made nowhere near the amount of money they wanted
He made his own tournaments that are much more successful than anything FIDE ever did…
This dude is the messi of chess lmao and brings ALL the viewership... even if this is the rules it was a mediocre business decision by FIDE who is about to tank its attendance and viewership
Ever heard of the concept of paying fines? 🤔
Magnus is not above of chess
Neither is FIDE.
Little boys playing a game. And so sensitive.
With all due respect this guy could have been one of the best ambassadors of the game but he chooses to do this. First he does not accept the fact that he does not have it in him anymore to go through the classical championship grind and ran away from his responsibility to pass on the baton.
Rules is rules…..follow the rules….Fide just doing their rules…it doesn’t mean you are the toughest in chess, you dont follow rules…
He was jealous and scared of Gukesh so wanted to minimise his win earlier this month.
😂
I like Magnus a lot in general, but this is the second time he let himself and the chess world down. The first time was when he made allegations against Niemann without having any proof. The second time was when he agreed to tournament rules and then, after having performed poorly for his standards, decided to not comply to the rules. Very unprofessional of him to make this a "matter of principle" (what "principle", BTW?), instead of complying like everyone else. This has a bitter taste, because of Magnus' financial interest in a non-FIDE event. Too much power play, too little sportsmanship.
Magnus have too much attitude. Everyone needs to stop supporting him.
Magnus should follow the rules.
Magnus was definitely waiting for an excuse to break ties with FIDE after having major disagreements with them lately.
