The line about “I was so ahead of the curve the curve became a sphere” reminds me of a line from another song of hers The Archer “I never grew up it’s getting so old” and in her documentary she also spoke about feeling trapped at the age she got famous for a long time because of the career/image she had and in her mid twenties is when she felt like she was finally catching up.
love what you thought!
This is my favorite song on the album
SAME
TASTE
mine too
Pulled the car off the road on the looked out
Could have followed my fears all the way down
Is an attempted suicide situation. 😭😭😭
This song is so sad but realistic at the same time
All of us are trying to stay alive, trying to be happy especially in this pandemic.
this song is actually people struggling with addiction or mental health. she said it in the disney plus special
I was a “gifted” kid, and always excelled at school. I’ve been struggling mentally since about middle school, so schoolwork was an escape for me. Once I got to the college age, I had so many dreams and plans. I had a lot of pressure from family as well because I don’t come from a college family. I got into a great school, knew what I wanted to do, and was excited to begin! My mental health suffered greatly, and I ended up dropping out of college. I never went back.
It’s been 6 years, and I have no clue what I’m doing with my life, or how everything got so flipped upside down. I had a plan, a way to get there, and the potential. My brain was my way to success, and my enemy.
There are a lot of us burnt out, depressed, confused, mentally ill, 20’ something year old “gifted” kids & this song…. man does it explain everything I’ve felt & my situation so perfectly. It’s almost too painful to listen to, but I love it so much.
Best song from Taylor, hands down. And to me both lines “I had the shiniest wheels, now they're rusting” and “So I got wasted like all my potential” talks about a person that was a bright, smart, creative and promising kid, then was hit by adulthood, society judgment and family expectations.
So they’re wasting their potential, and stressing to fit in a broken mold, a bankrupt social standard while dealing with *depression and anxiety.*
And this is unfortunately, a really relatable topic, for so many! This song remembers me of *Vienna by Billy Joel,* y’all should react to it (old but gold).
Sending my love to y’all, and be safe! 💙
When I 1st listen to this song it's feels like she's directly addressing to her fans
And if I see it with a perspective of love song it's feels like she's apologizing to someone or apologizing to herself
And it's definitely fit in the love triangle
I remember seeing a post where someone said that this song is almost like a backwards love song. she essentially spills her guts to a stranger (joe) but the thing is "but I didn't pour the whiskey" shes completely sober but because she was just so consumed by everything happening she just started talking, and he listened.
Oh I love the connection you made to the fans, never thought about it, but it also make a lot of sense so i can totally see this song being about it
this is definitely one of my favourite songs of the all album...the instrumentation is so good!
I thought I was the only one who thought this but yeah I feel like she should be honest and vulnerable to people that care about it I'm guessing you know the fans whatever being there and just encouraging her to write these music
it is not a billboard, but a movie screen at a drive-in theatre:)
I always think about this song as fighting alcohol addiction but nice to see your interpretation
I know the songs are all about different situations and not all are related to the love triangle but if you pay attention they actually are related to each other. I mean even the lyrics are all interconnected.
Lemme show you what I mean.
The one - Betty looking back at her life and thinking of James.
Cardigan- this is again Betty's POV
The last great American dynasty - this is the story of Rebekah harkness who was the last owner of the Rhode Island mansion which is now owned by Taylor ( also her nickname was Betty. Coincidence? I guess not)
Exile- this is Betty and James having a conversation (more like an argument of sorts)
My tears ricochet- the song is actually big machine who owns taylor's previous albums (but actually if you think of the love triangle then this is James's funeral and parts of it are sung by both Betty and James)
Mirroball- actually about fame and what comes with it (taylor's perspective) but also from the other girls perspective (the August girl) she's singing it to James.
Seven- actually about Taylor when she was young but also James and Betty when they were young.
August- this is the other girl's POV
This is me trying- this is James talking to Betty. Telling her he's trying
Illicite affairs- about James and the other girl.
Invisible string- actually about Taylor and Joe
Mad woman- about Taylor in reality but also inspired by Rebekah harkness (Betty harkness) and also cuz I'm such a GOT fan I think of it as a song for Daenerys and how they made her go crazy mad in the end (cuz society can't deal with a woman in power /toxic patriarchy). Believe me if you're a GOT fan think of dany while listening to this one and you'll know what I mean.
Epiphany - about her granddad who was in the army and current corona pandemic around the world.
Also from the triangle this is James joining the army and then dying (funeral in my tears ricochet) and Betty going through shit in her own life.
Betty - James's POV
Peace- Taylor and Joe
Hoax- Betty dealing with James's death.
Phew. That was long. You guys probably won't read it but this is how I perceive the songs. And I also get a lot of hate for it when I tell people this but honestly Taylor is such an amazing songwriter that you can percieve the songs the way you want them to. That's the beauty of this album. You take it the way you want to take it. Understand it the way you want. That's why it's called folklore. And it's one of the best albums ever written. I said what I said. Y'all can come for me now.
Agreed. The album is named folklore for a reason. Though originally it's a love triangle but every song fits in perfectly. I have read a polished version of your theory and it leads to Taylor finally. No wonder Taytay is one of the greatest songwriters of our time.
I agree with you fully I’ve been thinking this and connecting the dots too. I think this is James talking to Betty and about his life without her
When i think of this song, i interpret it as her time when she was in hiding, 1989 was like the greatest year or era for her, which i connected to ‘i had the shiniest wheels, now they’re rusting’. Everybody hated her after kanye lied and made her look bad. And for ‘pouring out my heart to a stranger, but i didn’t pour the whiskey’. She met Joe Alwyn at a bar, and i think she just told him everything there, so after they started seeing each other she says ‘this is me trying’.
its crazy that this particular song can make u perceive lots of idead.. top tier songs
"Pulled the car off the road to the lookout, could've followed my fears all the way down"
“It's probably a way of saying she felt like taking her own life away. As in, jumping off a cliff. She sings that she was (probably) driving through a road that was close to a cliff, or the end of a hill, and she pulled towards the "lookout" (where you 'look' out to the landscape in front of a cliff/hill. Look it up ^^). "Could have followed my fears all the way down" is a very clever lyric saying she would keep driving until she fell of the cliff ("all the way down") 'following' her fears, probably personal struggles and insecurities (and depression). It's a very dark lyric, and it's written so beautifully. It took me a few days to understand it, but when I did, this entire song felt different."
(Saw this from a comment on the lyric video)
I translate the line of being ahead of the curve in terms of the music industry.. a country artist who won aoty at the grammys for a country album moving into pop and winning the same award for a pop album. Always one step ahead of the media, her fans, critics... but she ended up with her classmates, her musical peers.. especially after reputation. despite being such a never before heard sound she felt not validated for her genius and she was put in the category of average artists. And the only person she can vent all of this to is a stranger, Joe. Who poured the whisky .. as the lyrics in the songs delicate and gorgeous from the rep album would insinuate.
Please react to invisible strings, epiphany, mad woman, the last great american dynasty, and peace. 👏♥️
All her cages were mental
Connects directly to the curve became a sphere lyric. Her cages represent all her insecurities and fears, doubts all in her head that hold her back. She was ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere... a 3 dimensional structure that no matter where she turned would lead her back to herself. She was so ahead of the curve, her only competition was with herself. She needed to prove to herself that she was good enough, that she belongs. These are her mental cages. This is her trying to be good enough. This also resonates in Mirrorball at the end when she says she is trying to do everything to keep you looking at her. This is her trying, she needs that acceptance from others because she doesn’t believe in herself (mental cages).
this is the one song that just makes me cry
especially when you add rain in the background!
I want the whole discography from you guys! You make great points in every song
I think Taylor made this album so we can really reflect through the song and not interpret it as just her story or experiences?? Like listening to this song and certain lines from the lyrics hit you up, relate and got you remembering 'that' certain experienced.
This song is actually for her fans, telling them she's trying to see them and do stuff for them even tho this pandemic happen.
This is my favorite song and you have a great interpretation. I absolutely think it’s directed to her fans
Well most of the songs on folklore are not connected to her personal life. It's not about her fans. But some songs are about looking at her past. She explains that most of them are made up of her imagination. Like the love triangle. That's why the name of the album 'folklore'
Seeing you both nodding to the rhytm is so cute 😄
This is my favorite song in the album 🌟
Guys, it's time to react to the manifestation of pain itself, the last boss when it comes to Taylor Swift's lyricism before folklore came out, "All Too Well" 👁👄👁
Taylor let the listener build their own meaning of the songs. I think this song for me is "learning to apologize and taking full responsibility for my mistake".
I love her reaction, I love you guys
You need to listen to the long pond version where she explain how/why she wrote this song.
This song is about addiction and one’s mental health and trying one’s best in recovery hence “this is me trying” and it’s my favorite on folklore
To understand this song you should listen to her interview on her thoughts about writing this song in her Forklore long pond studio sessions.
Please react to Mad woman by Taylor Swift's folklore
I fcking love this song 😭
Please make a reaction to a young, very popular singer in world. Videos from this singer collect hundreds of millions of views. Diana Ankudinova is now only 17 years old. She has a very unique, very deep, clear voice.
Dr. Marc Reynolds (Voice Teacher, Stage Director, Performance Coach and Consultant, and Acting Coach) said about the performance of this girl:
Really really exceptional! Even if you ignore her age, even is she was 10, 20, 30 years older, this is still a really exceptional performer here that we're seeing. But at her age, unbelievable. Really really exceptional! Absolutely gorgeous! And again, not just because of her voice, because her performing, watching how nuanced and engaging her performance is. Ah, it's just so stunning. It's absolutely amazing.

I've been having a hard time adjusting
I had the shiniest wheels, now they're rusting
I didn't know if you'd care if I came back
I have a lot of regrets about that
Pulled the car off the road to the lookout
Could've followed my fears all the way down
And maybe I don't quite know what to say
But I'm here in your doorway
I just wanted you to know
That this is me trying
I just wanted you to know
That this is me trying
They told me all of my cages were mental
So I got wasted like all my potential
And my words shoot to kill when I'm mad
I have a lot of regrets about that
I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere
Fell behind all my classmates and I ended up here
Pourin' out my heart to a stranger
But I didn't pour the whiskey
I just wanted you to know…
awesome analysis
Beautiful reaction 🔥❤️
Enamorado de Taylor
So underrated song
My favorites are Seven, Hoax and Cardigan.
in the second verse, she's talking about her therapist
I actually think this is James talking to Betty. And as a part of the love triangle. But it's all about how you perceive the song.
This song was written about mental health issues. The line, “pulled my car off to the lookout, could’ve followed my fears all the way down.” Was referencing a suicide attempt 😭😭
when u said trying is very overrated i literally gasped because thats what exactly she meant by this song in when she explained it in the long pond sessions.
I never thought she would released indie album
My favorite...:)
You should react to “First Aid” or “Post Humorous” by Gus Dapperton. Absolutely gorgeous songs and I’d love to see your guys’ reactions. “First Aid” being the more obviously dark/emotional of the two. But both bangers!
The Lyric Video is a Drive-In Cinema in Greenville

INVISIBLE STRING🥺
I only started listening to TS's songs after discovering the 10-minute version of "All Too Well" this year. I have watched some of your TS's songs reaction videos. Very often your reaction and comments were out of context, unfortunately. To do justice to reacting to TS's songs, one must first do some background studies of her life experiences, her pain snd challenges, etc.
mad woman nextttttt
Since this album is mostly fiction I think this song is about alcoholism
This is me trying for Jay to notice me. 🤍 GUAPO.

I agree with the girl sorry don’t no her name but I think this is about her and coming back to her music saying I don’t think you care if I came back also about her hate about be a country artist to pop this is her trying also about her documentary when she said she has to reinvent herself so this is me trying is about her saying to her fans this is her trying to make her fans stay
