Everyone needs a Milt in their golf group. His positivity is infectious. Great video as always, Adam!
Thanks! How lucky was I that Milt was the first person I got paired with after joining my golf Club in Vancouver? We've easily played 100+ rounds together since. I'm so glad I got to bring him on the channel. He embodies so many of the philosophies I strive to embody myself.
FACT
I surely do... 😁
Nice video!
His positive attitude allows him to actually ENJOY golf, which is what it should always be about. I use to play 3 days a week, started shooting in the 70’s, and then all of the fun stopped. I was so focused on getting better and shooting lower scores that if I had a bad early start I knew I wouldn’t beat a certain score and it sucked all of the fun out of it. I’ve rarely played in 15 years since we had kids, and then got into tennis, but if I ever start playing again I’m going to just enjoy the fact that I’m on a golf course, and there are many worse places to be. I’ve always been ultra competitive in sports, but I’m now in my 50’s and now feel like I could enjoy the process and not hold myself to unrealistic standards. Who knows, maybe I’ll start playing again. Milt’s personality is infectious, and I’m sure it would be easy to have a fun relaxed day playing with him.
Good video Adam! Like Milt - I've been playing golf for 50 years. My handicap hovers between 5 & 7. My son-in-laws outdrive me but get so worked up because I score better. Attitude is a big part of it. Everybody hits a bad shot here and there. How you react can effect the next shot. I've witnessed it all to often on the course. Guy hits a bad shot, then takes 1-3 shots or more to settle down. When you are complaining about the last shot while getting ready to hit a shot, you are setting yourself up for another bad shot!! Keep 'em coming!
I wish every golfer would read this.
"In golf, the most important distance is the five inches between the ears" - Bobby Jones
What us oldsters lack in distance, we make up In experience and course management.
Playing the proper tees is a must.
Agreed!
What a gem! Milt has a great attitude on the course. A couple more Adam/Milt collaborations may be needed in the future.
I like this idea!
I don't know about all that lol
An instant classic! Milt is a delight - you’ve captured the wonderful nuances of playing your own game.
Thanks!!
I'm same age as Milt, been playing 33 years. In golf, often we learn the hard way, the ego gets in our way. But we are trying to score, not hit that improbable 300 yard drive. Strategy allows for a score. Finally, I'd finish with this. One never stop learning in this game. If we don't believe that, there's always a triple bogey waiting
Yaaaaaas
I think everyone needs that "Trusty" club like Milt's 9Iron. No matter what club it is, you need a club that you can count on when needed. It really does help with keeping the game from going way off the rails.
Agreed
…..the Billy Baroo……Billy, Billy, Billy…….
Milt is an absolute joy. The type of guy I’d play my best golf around!
Right?!
Great video highlighting these guys out there! I played once with an older man who couldn't even bend down and used a special device to tee it up and pick the ball out of the hole. I had the distance advantage by a big margin over him, but he still kicked my ass in scoring by over 10 strokes. Straight and consistent does wonders for the socre
This!
As as senior I can relate to Milt. It took me decades to learn to play my game. ie: Hybrids in my bag, No hero shots, ect.... Wonderful video. Thank you.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it!
I really appreciate your videos. Some of my favorite. Such a realistic approach to the game. And I try to apply a lot of the management lessons to my own game.
Thanks for the kind words!
I really really enjoyed this video as a change of pace. Nice to see how golfing basics and knowing your swing can help shoot low
Thanks for this feedback!!
if milt learns to bump and run around the green with his trusty 9 iron, he's going to up his game even more! what a king!!
Yeah, I agree that if Milt diversified his greenside arsenal just a tad, he'd shave a few strokes.
@@NotAScratchGolfer also i wondered how much the camera being on him effected his game on that day? i bet if you film with milt a few more times, he will get in a groove in that regard as well. i think the camera adds a lot of pressure even to the seasoned youtube veterans! he really handled it well if that was his first time on camera.
Fair point! The old saying is the camera adds 10 pounds, but does it add 10 strokes?! Lol probably not, but it's definitely added pressure. Hate to be an excuse maker, but I'd say that it *definitely* robs me of the odd stroke out there when playing/filming myself. In this round, I was playing, filming Milt, and filming myself...all while playing a sub-4 hour round :p@@lazy_dad
@@NotAScratchGolfer i think in the time i've watched your videos, you've gotten a lot better at managing the camera and the production and got in a good groove overall. and i think your game is trending in a good way too. if you ever come to hamilton, ontario i'd love to show you my home course, which in the past has won score magazine's best muni in canada!
This was really cool. Nice work, Adam.
My Dad is almost 80 and I got him to start playing from the forward tees. He’s always hit it down the middle. So we start dinging Bing Crosby’s Straight down the middle song.
Just listened to that track for the first time. Waddagem.
In my case it is because my 74 year old father still consistently drives 270 and plays 3 times a week because he gets lessons and that makes playing four times a week just too much.
My dad is absolutely rocking retirement.
Milt is awesome, his attitude and demeanor is something everyone should strive for on the course.
For anyone who hasn't tried Swingtweaks it's fucking amazing. I messed up my first video and the coach sent me a credit to redo it, I thought he was going to be the one to review it but it was sent to a different coach. That coach didn't get any information about my game or swing because I thought it was the same guy and he already had it. Without any information, he gave me 2 great drills that i could do at home. The next day at the range I could easily implement the feels into my own swing. They really mean tweaks, just slight adjustments on what you already do, improved my consistency of strike like I couldn't believe. Usually if I hit 4-5 shots great with different clubs I'd feel on fire, the first time I used the changes I hit 12 in a row perfectly. I didn't even know what I was looking for or needed help and they totally fixed me up.
Always great to hear these positive reviews of Swingtweaks! They've done wonders for my game and it's awesome that others are seeing value in it, too! And yeah, Milt is the man!
Great course strategy advice! Played a links course in Texas after playing in Maryland for 5 months. I knew after a few holes that I needed to put driver away, and just focus on staying in play off the tee. I’m committed to playing the course again with a much more conservative strategy.
Yaaaaaaas
At 63 I’m nowhere near as long as I was even 10 years ago. But I practice my short game about 4 to 1 over my full swing. I can still hang with the younger players in our group. I may not hit as many greens in regulation but I almost never lose a ball and I get up and down often. Still have a single digit handicap.
He has a 4 wood and a 9 iron that does what it's told. His drives arent bad at all either. So, he has a reliable club for long, medium, and short shots. Milt has it made.
Bingo
Good video, was a joy watching Milt play.
Thanks!
Most helpful golf channel as far the mental side. You have great introspection. Thank you sir
Thanks for the kind words!
Love this video. That is what I call truly enjoying the game of golf as it was meant to be enjoyed.
Yes
Milt has nice tempo, no rushed downswing.
Fo sho
Love this! Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Never being out of position, making every putt from 10 ft or less, no OB, never attempting shots you can’t make.
Bingo
Dude! I got rando paired up with Milt and his son at Predator this past summer. Great guy, and what a thrill to see him on the channel. Gives me hope that maybe someday I'll get rando paired with Adam.... :D
Small world! I'm usually out at Predator a few times each Summer!
I built a chipper from a 9 iron, bent it vertical like a putter, added a bunch of lead to get to e 6 weight and cut to putter length with a Jumbo Max grip, it is like Milt's 9 iron a true old man zorro sword!! Video of the club build on the channel! Enjoyed the video and Subscribed!
I knew I recognized that golf course! Eagle Falls. Wow, you had a day without wind.
Yeah, oddly enough I've played Eagle Falls twice, both times with relatively little wind. I understand it can howl at times north of I-10!
I'm 70 years old and playing the best golf of my life. In my younger years my scores were in the low 90s with a great rounds being in the upper 80s. At my age I've have left my ego at the door and play to my strengths which doesn't include distance. Nowadays my average scores or in the low 80s with good rounds being in the mid to upper 70s. There's nothing more satisfying than beating the younger guys bombing drives 280 yards while I'm hitting around 215 yards. My advice is to know your game forget about your ego and to concentrate on the short game and putting. My 2 cents.
Love this
I think in 50 years if I'm playing like this guy I'd be very happy.
Likewise!
Nice video! Accuracy is more important than distance if can only have one!
Agreed
The smile on this man's face when you interview him is so contagious.
Right?
Milt’s consistency is key to playing good golf. He stays out of trouble for the most part, which is where most golfers pile up strokes.
Bingo
I was just talking about wanting to play Eagle Falls again. You made a video years ago that turned me onto that course and I had a great time there.
Awesome! Funny enough, this was only my second time there (the other being the time I made my first video there). It's practically the definition of a hidden gem. Love that place!
Man seeing milt beat my Personal best on a bad day for him wasn't the best for the game confidence today lol. I guess that's the main difference between 1 year and 50 years in the game!
Use it..stay in play
You aren't a real golfer until you've had your ass handed to you by somebody who hits it 50 yards shorter than you lol.
Really liked this video. Does Milt use senior flex shafts or something stiffer?
Thanks! I believe Milt's clubs are senior flex.
Glad I got a chance to play with you Milt at Tahquitz the other day. Look forward to joining up again. Us Rossie II putter guys need to stick together.
Lolll.
These are the folks that make the game of golf, that support the clubs, that support the public courses, that make golf successful. It's not Jon Rahm or Rory or Tiger. It's the millions who go to the course every day, shoot what they shoot, enjoy the game.
Couldn't agree more
Milt plays like me. 😳
My 5-wood is also my favorite club, but instead of a 4- or 3-wood, I carry a 7-wood.
I also don’t have an iron longer than 7-iron, and lean heavily on my 5-hybrid for any shot >150 yards.
I need to work on my tee shot as, unlike Milt, my driver occasionally gets me in trouble, and I’m constantly working on my short game
(oh, I also have a Ping ChipR).
Remember ☝🏻 goal is to get the ball into the hole, any way you can
… as Tin Cup said, “perfection unattainable”
Good stuff
… keep up the good work 👊🏻
I love my hybrids. I play Ping hybrids 3 thru 7.
A nod to the gods
Awesome video guys!this is the most valuable lesson in golf...if you dont get your ass handed to you by an older gentleman that hits it 150 down the middle every time, you dont wanna get better and will take forever to understand what it takes to start scoring!cheers boys!i call it the:how many majors does Bryson have lesson!
Haha I just said almost exactly this elsewhere in the comments.
I love Milt and his attitude on the course. He plays within himself and knows the distances on his clubs.
I have guys I play with who are older than Milt and think they still hit their 8 iron 140 plus. We all have to accept as we get older, we will not be hitting each club as far.
And it is a game. Go out there, have fun in the sunshine and enjoy the time with your friends.
Love this
I know all about it. I play with someone who is 69 and someone who is in the 70s. They are tough to beat. I've been beating them lately but previously they would beat me.
haha love it
This is the kind of guy I like to play golf with. Too many guys act, think and talk like they are playing Sunday at Augusta and it’s embarrassing.
Totally agreed
great video. Milt, you are a role model
I’m just starting off in golf and never been on the field yet, and boy I got a feeling it’s gonna take me a while to get this consistent with my shots😂
I’m Milt too and I hope I can play golf for as long as he has and have his same attitude out there. Cheers!
Love this
Milt is an absolute LEGEND!
Agreed!
I am 70 and have not played golf in 20years. I have a finicky back but his swing might work for me. I think I may give it a try. When I was younger i tended to overswing. Now with my back , etc. maybe i can get my mind to throttle back. Tell Milt thank you and blessed health. Bill from Florida.
Good stuff, Bill! Hope you're able to keep enjoying the game!!
Fantastic Video
Thanks for the shout out, Adam. If you want to set up the Pay Per View: "Battle of the Backswings" let me know the time and the place. Haha.
Haha no prob! Glad I came across your vid. Where are you located, btw?
@@NotAScratchGolfer East Coast, Georgia. Trying to travel a bit more next year. Have to convince the better half to take some trips that just may happen to involve a little bit of golfing. Cheers!
Yep, Milt is nothing short of awesome! MILT "Man I like (his) Tempo".
haha I'll share this with Milt
Such a great perspective. I want to play a round with a Milt someday!
We all need a Milt!
Milt is a lefty like my playing partner of 40 years. My lefty is a 20m+ slicer off the tee and perennial 3 putter due to always leaving it short and low. Good times.
Love it
I am Milt now. When I was in high school I remember an old man at the local golf course. He made the paper for shooting his age more times than he was old (84). It really was amazing, 150 every time, straight as an arrow and NEVER a 3 putt.
I’ve always enjoyed Eagle Falls. It’s a fun little track. You ever make it out to Temecula? You might enjoy Temecula Creek Inn lmk if be happy to set up a round.
I LOVE Eagle Falls. I haven't made it to Temecula yet but I'm hearing this recommendation so often that I might need to get there soon...
@@NotAScratchGolfer I'll send you an IG message. I'm local there.
I don't know if it's intentional or not, but Milt's swing is very, very similar to Moe Norman's. That's probably contributing to his hitting it with so little curve. He basically has a single-plane swing, he keeps his back heel on the ground throughout, and he does the "buckle, sit, slide, bump" like the way Todd Graves teaches it on UA-cam. It's a very healthy way to swing in terms of injury avoidance, as well, because there is inherently much less stress on your back. Go Milt!
Go Milt, indeed! Todd Graves' school just did a clinic out here (at Cimmaron). I thought about going but was afraid of clogging my brain with more swing thoughts!
@@NotAScratchGolfer Graves' ebook is more than worth whatever he charges for it if you're interested.
Did all those golf trips and have to agree they are all fantastic. Around same age but I struggle to break 90 these days
Any favorites?
Scotland and the Old Course at top of the list.
All the way from Australia - go Milt! What a legend!
Milt says thanks!
Milt kicks butt!!! Happy to pay for his round if I ever get a chance 🎉
haha cheers. Whereabouts are ya?
@@NotAScratchGolferLos Angeles
I could watch that dude swing a golf club for days on end.
And I do, lol!
Love the Title ❤😂
lol thanks!
Great video with Milt!! He knows his game and limitations!!🏌♂⛳
Glad you enjoyed it!
Adam, what does it take for you to edit and narrate one of my rounds so perfectly? Greetings from Singapore ✌️
Thanks! And I have no idea, lol. I take a lot of time pouring through the footage trying to find a narrative or throughline, and then I just kind of wing it!
Really enjoyed this. Milt seems like fun
He reminds me of my late grandfather. That's a massive compliment.
😂 I am Milt too. 62, play from 6k ish, D 3w, 5w, 4-6hy(sometimes 7hy), 7-lw. Don't hit them far but they work. Broke 80 twice this season but usually shoot 85-92 range.
Wow, that's exactly Milt lol.
@@NotAScratchGolfer I cant wait to see your round with him.
Next vid should show why you're a fan of Milt's game: that familiar pull hook but from the other side of the box! 😉
Old guys tend not to get in trouble. 150 yards down the middle everytime. 1-2 putt. Hard to beat.
Milt seems like a real genuine guy. Not losing balls is huge to what I’d called “old man golf”. Straight down the fairway but not much distance, no lost balls, nothing fancy. The consistency is usually way higher than people who just grip and rip
Bingo
This has nothing to do with Milt, but I'm trying to learn to hit a flop shot around the greens in certain situations. It has helped a lot.
Milt is an absolute legend!!!!
He really is. First guy I ever got paired with after joining my Club. We've now played well in excess of 100 rounds together, all up and down the West Coast!
Adam, I love watching you play golf but damn I really need more Milt.
I can accommodate this request!
@@NotAScratchGolfer
Yes, more Milt please. Maybe he could give us insights into some of his short and long shots.
Enjoying your channel from Vancouver Island! ⛳️
That golf course is one of the best sub 7000 yard courses from the tips that I have ever played. Great use of space. Nice shootin' Milt!
Couldn't agree more. Absolutely love this track.
I also play with my senior friend who kicks my ass consistently.
Truly humbling!
my dad carries an old pw with him that he hits from everywhere like milt. love the old man game in golf.
I play like Milt. My partner I usually play with, sets his expectations too high. I just play my game and it is what it is.
Bingo
This shows how important that 40-80 yard pitch shot is. I lose so many strokes from that range.
So true
Great video😊. Is that a left handed golfer I C !
Yessir!
Milt is a beauty!
Right? I'm so glad I took the chance to film a round with him and get it on the channel!
Cheers Milt!
Cheers back, from Adam & Milt!
I’ve been beaten by a 70 year old guy that made par or bogey on every hole. He shot little looper fades all the way to the green then chipped and putted like a pro.
haha it's truly a humbling experience the first time it happens.
That dude is an absolute vibe
After watching this... is it spring yet???
Soon
Milt is a good golfer he might have been able to shave off a few strokes with using his hybrid for a few of the chip shots just off the green that he putted but on a different day he probably gets those putts closer.
Nothing to do with being senior. Has everything to do with being a good player.
Short and straight
Like me!
You seem to spend quite a bit of time in the Coachella Valley.....is that home for you? It is for me.
I'm here for a few months each year!
60 year old scratch golfer here. I routinely beat the kids I coach on our HS team because I know my game and can get up and down very often.
Love it
They do!!
Great!
Thanks!
Milt is a great dude
This is how everyone should play golf and how most low/scratch golfers do play, the only difference is that their clubs go longer.
My Grandpa shot 80 when he was 80. I could not beat him at that time and I was 20.
Go grandpa!
If you can consistently shoot in the 80s you're better than 90 percent of golfers
True
Milt has a slight resemblance to Arnold Palmer in certain angles.
haha I'm sure Milt will love to hear this.
This is why golf is so great. By the way, have you seen Old Man Pat on the Golfmates channel?!
Agreed. I haven't checked out Golfmates in a while. I'll look 'em up!
Have 3 woods and 3 wedges and all hybrids (4 to 9) and play off 13.2 - golf is so much easier now!
Love it
Played a 24 handicap Friday, he birded a par 5 si 3( on the green in 3 net 1) for a net albatross.....how can you beat a senior like that
Milt seems like a phenomenal guy, and his attitude is exactly what I aim for when I play. Why bother going out if not to have a good time?
