    Great job! I am using this project for my 6th and 7th grade classes as an assignment while they are at home during the COVID 19 Pandemic. Thank you!

    Thank you very much for this video. It helped us complete a project in crunch time after two 'temporary defeats' on different mouse trap car models. This worked right the first time and worked very well. Great job!!!

    Can anyone give me specific details on the dimensions of the cardboard?
    P.S. I would also like to know what those white tubes on the cardboard are

      We asked Claes our 4-H Science Guy and he said the dimensions of the cardboard are 4-6 inches by 10-12 inches. the white tubes are drinking straws that allow the axle to spin.

    I'm not sure if you will respond, however, is there anything that I could subsitute for the "Beveled Faucet Washers" ?

    How far can the mousetrap car move? Need the information for a school project!

    • @UNHExtension
      @UNHExtension  5 років тому +1

      We've asked Claes Thelemarck our 4-H Science Guy and he let us know that typically mousetrap cars can travel around 40-50 feet. If they're not made well, they'll only do about 20. If they're made really well, some can go as far as 80 feet.

    So I Did Everything Right, But My Cardboard Keeps Bending When I Try To Pull Back The String. Any Suggestions On How I Can Fix This?

      Thanks for reaching out! We're asking 4-H Science Guy Claes to weigh in. We'll let you know what we hear.

      Here's what we hear from Claes: When that happen I try to double or triple up my layers of cardboard. I also try to orient the ridges in the cardboard crossways.

    What are the measurements on the piece you cut please

    • @claesthelemarck2525
      @claesthelemarck2525 3 роки тому

      So, I'm thinking you mean the cut-out at the back of the car. depending on how wide the cardboard piece is, I usually use a piece that is 4 or 5 inches wide, i make the cut-out between 1 and 1 1/2 inches wide and two inches deep. you can find written directions with suggested dimensions at extension.unh.edu/resource/how-build-mousetrap-car.

    How long is the string

    • @claesthelemarck2525
      @claesthelemarck2525 2 роки тому

      The string should be long enough to reach from the end of the rod to the axle with enough extra to tie a small loop to hook on the rear axle. You may need to play round with this a bit. if it's too long the loop will catch, if it's too short it will not reach the rear axle. Good Luck.

    how do you get the wheels to not slide off of the axle? when i try to put my wheels on the axle it just slides off and it doesnt stand up straight

    • @claesthelemarck2525
      @claesthelemarck2525 3 роки тому

      The correct Faucet washers (1/4L 19/32") should fit quite snugly on a 3/16" wooden dowel, then when you insert the dowel through the straw and fit a wheel on each end of the dowel it should fit quite nicely and spin pretty freely. it will move side to side a bit, but you should be able to position the wheels on the dowel just a bit wider than the straw to minimize any side to side play.

    What iş the thing in the middle un wheels? Im trying to make it for a school procett

    • @UNHExtension
      @UNHExtension  5 років тому

      It's a small zip tie! Claes attached it around the axle and then cut off the excess, then used hot glue to keep it in place.

    • @jensonphan
      @jensonphan 5 років тому

      @@UNHExtension That's not a small zip tie, that's a dvd wheel spacer, and the small zip ties are at your lever for your mousetrap, not the dvd wheel spacer

    • @UNHExtension
      @UNHExtension  5 років тому

      @@jensonphan We thought they were referring to the item in the middle of the axle, i.e. between the wheels not the middle of the wheels. The comment could be taken either way. But thanks for the input on the DVD wheel spacer!
