Thanks for sharing this trip! What a treat to see all the lovely yarn and fibers, and the brilliant handknits. Also loved hearing the stories of how everyone learned to knit. Sweet to know how much most knitters (and crocheters) have in common regardless of when or where we grew up : ) Yarny greetings from the US : )

So enjoyed reliving the festival and getting to see around it with you! Mr O watched too and was most impressed with your podcasting skills and it gave him a bit of insight into our woolly world, so thank you

SoOoOoOoOo prettyyyyyy! The entire video I was going "Ooooo, look at that yarn, I want it!"
The UK seems to have a great knitting community/culture. I was surprised at how many people said they learned to knit when they were so little, and definitely surprised by the ones who said they learned at school! I've never heard of schools teaching children to knit or crochet here in the US, only classes on sewing. So interesting! Thanks for sharing this trip with us Vero!

+Plastique I was equally surprised! I grew up in Canada, and knitting was something your grandma might do, but it definitely wasn't something generally passed on to younger generation in the 80's.
What I found particularly noticeable is that I spoke to people ranging from their late teens to their 60-70s, and a huge number had learned from a young age, regardless of what era they grew up in! Admittedly not everyone stuck to it, but I was surprised at the answers :D

OMG! I´m so jealous. In Finland we have only 1 event and there is much less yarn. =( I need to save up for trip to UK. Does anyone have tips to give were I should go?

+How2shine There are quite a few events, but I don't think anything has quite been as amazing as Edinburgh so far, for me. Unravel in Farnham (nearer London) was great, and I hear that Unwind in Brighton is great. Very large commercial events are held at Alexandra Palace in London once or twice a year, but I suspect that has a very different feel to the incredibly homely and welcoming slightly smaller events.
Hopefully Finland's own knitting scene will also grow over time :D
