    Can anyone explain to me why South Africa and Ireland are only playing two Tests this summer instead of the traditional three, like Ireland did against New Zealand in 2022? It is a real shame, as were it to stand at 1-1 after two matches, everyone would want to see a decider.
    Whatever Sam Warburton says, South Africa are World Champions, and for Ireland to legitimately be called the “best team in the world”, we would have to beat the Boks twice in their own back yard. Which would be highly unlikely.
    For now, we’re happy to simply be the best team in Europe, and were we to achieve back-to-back Grand Slams, that would be worth celebrating. Trust me, I watched enough dire Irish rugby in the ‘80s and ‘90s, to fully enjoy our current form.
    Living abroad in Mexico, this team gives us ex-pats a lot of joy, and a were it all to come up Milhouse on St. Patrick’s weekend, that’d be truly epic! ☘️

    • @davesmith826
      @davesmith826 2 місяці тому

      A good question I assume the federations agreed on two tests rather than three because of player load - fatigue. Both sides were in the red last year. Farrell's refusal to rotate in the pool games was a fatal mistake for the Irish and Rassie's decision to start the same XV for England that had taken to the field against France was *almost* a disaster.
      I'm half Irish, half South African, so I want both to do well and the Irish to win the next Webb Ellis. At the moment, I'd say they've got the best chance of all the top dogs, largely because of the relatively young age of their squad and their superb coaching set-up. SA, however, will be a different proposition with a Kiwi attack coach and New Zealand have finally found themselves an elite coach. Robertson is going to get the Kiwis humming again, though he hasn't got the players to emulate the great McCaw-Carter axis of 2011-15. Yet.

    • @notenoughstones3873
      @notenoughstones3873 2 місяці тому

      @@davesmith826 No it has nothing to do with fatigue or anything like that. This year England are only playing 2 tests in NZ, Wales only play 2 tests vs Australia and France only play 2 tests vs Argentina. 3 test series as we know it are effectively over. This is the start of the shift from old school test series to the new Nations Championship/League which starts in 2026 where even a 2 test series will be rare. I reckon next year will be 2 test series but from 2026, we will only see one-off tests, similar to what we see in November tests.

Each set of fans can rightly be proud of their history and record, for different reasons, but all this crap about "we're better than you because " is pretty boring to read. Can we not just be satisfied that we currently have some great teams playing rugby across the world, with some cracking games to look forward to? For what it's worth, the WR.Ranking system can always be debated, but it's the only one we've got, so just live with it. In every other sport everyone calls the winner at world level the best regardless of what happens on the way there. It's like claiming because Usain Bolt comes second in a heat he isn't really the fastest man even after he wins the final. Or saying hey because Argentina lost their group game to Saudi Arabia and narrowly beat France we can't say they're the best. The best teams do it when it counts. You don't win a trophy for doing the best in the group stage or pre tournament. The current World Champs have won it 4 times out of 8 appearances. If we look at match history (reasonably, rather than load it for a redesired result) things are certainly interesting, pointing to quite a shift the past 8-10 odd years now.
    Ireland vs South Africa (2014 to present):
    Ireland 5 wins
    SA 2 wins
    Ireland vs Australia (2014 to present)
    Ireland 5 wins
    Australia 1 win
    Ireland vs NZ (2016 to present)
    Ireland 5 wins
    NZ 4 wins
    Ireland seem to turned the corner the last decade or so and have a positive win record against all 3 of SH Sanzaar giants.
    Also, unpopular opinion, Sexton cost Ireland the WC quarter final. Ireland are better without him and they proving it since. Great player, but he was a mental crutch/liability for the team.

    The Springboks are the #1 team in the world, that's because of their ranking and their win in the RWC. But South Africa didn't beat Ireland to win the World Cup, so the comparison can't be made as far as RWC results are concerned. Ireland have beaten South Africa in their last three fixtues. This means that there is more at stake than realised when it comes to the July tests, which are going to be cracking games.
    Apologies to all the South Africans, I personally see Ireland getting on top of South Africa in July. They simply will have had more game time together, but beating South Africa in South Africa isn't easy.

    This is exactly why Saffa fans are like this because EUROPEANS bloviate about a team winning an inept competition calling them the best while we have a side in the Boks who ARE BACK TO BACK WORLD CHAMPIONS and the NO1 ranked team
    We have “Sam something something” calling Ireland the best .
    It’s frustrating
