    Around how long are the elastics (whether absolute size (cm) or relative to one's proportions (2.2x circumference of waist or something))? I'd like to make them since they seem pretty structurally simple, and I'd rather not do international shipping for something I can make in a couple minutes.

    • @Dorlinedainwen
      @Dorlinedainwen 3 роки тому +2

      Buy korin on ebay, or if you cant find them then himo are fine but things just slip a little more.
      For padding you can use a towel and a himo or datejime tie easy enough. Just pad out your curves so you are more [] shaped

    @Billy Matsunaga Please clarify :) Is yukata with obi belt still yukata or becomes Kimono? I have been looking like crazy for waist belt and could not find anything like you are wearing. I managed to get long elastic belt with clips for hips but no chance so far for long belt for waist :( I hope that you manage to have this item in your web store. Last but not least HUGE THANK YOU for all your wonderful videos. I love it!!!

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  2 роки тому +3

      Hi! No, yukata is still yukata with an obi.
      Yukata can look like a kimono, when adding an undergarment (nagajuban), but it’s still a yukata 😉

    Thank you Billy! You're so funny, it's so fun to watch your videos! Question: Why didn't you just wear a nagajuban underneath the yukata? Cos I don't plan to wear too many layers of clothes underneath my yukata... a nagajuban is okay, right?

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  3 роки тому +8

      When you’d wear a nagajuban under your yukata, it wouldn’t be a yukata anymore. When you want to wear the yukata as a yukata: no Nagajuban. When you want to wear a yukata as a kimono: you wear a nagajuban under the yukata but over the hadagi.

    My yukata doesn't open in the sleeves, and has tassels on the ends on the collar, and on the inside, it's also silky and has a pin on bow... it's complicated.. I got it off Amazon, it's really pretty but just confusing to put on

  • @danielalaatz57

    It seems either I am too big or the Yukata I got is to short. If I put it on it just goes to my ankles.
    Could I just skip the part when the height is adjusted? Or do I pull it up anyhow exposing more leg?

    • @evaweiss1160
      @evaweiss1160 3 роки тому +1

      Then it is too short for you. Ideally the length of the whole Yukata or kimono should equal your height. If it is too short you probably shouldn’t wear it even shorter.

    Can some of these dressing rules work for putting on komon? Also, do you know if there are specific names for the elastics you are using? I would really like to purchase some but can't seem to find any that look similar!

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  4 роки тому +1

      Krusher115 with Komon I’m pretty sure that you mean how to put on a kimono. It’s a bit different because you have to wear a nagajuban under it. I’ve a tutorial on my channel for that and the kimono over that is a video to follow. I can only call the elastics as my school does, because I haven’t seen them being used somewhere else and we call it’s “waist belt”. Maybe you get lucky with searching for “Korin belt 2 piece” etc 🙈

    Super interesting. I have a question: Why did you want to get rid of your waist?:)

    • @Dorlinedainwen
      @Dorlinedainwen 3 роки тому +3

      The ideal shape for kimono is []. You pad out the curves of your lower back and waist so you have straight lines instead of curves which make the lines of the kimono look better and fit better.

    • @tandago7281
      @tandago7281 3 роки тому +1

      @@Dorlinedainwen So you mean that the curves make the lines of the kimono look better and fit better, or the straight lines? If the second, I find it interesting... The kimono is seen as such a womanly attire - yet it is something that hides the hourglass-like shape which characterise the female form in humans - as if the female form is wrong in some way and something to fix/forget/be ashamed of. I wonder, is it really impossible for a kimono to look good while not attempting to hide all the curves? Would that make the overall look less "perfect/polished/beautiful" in any way? Would it complicate anything? I am genuinely asking as I'm not acquainted with this domain :)

    • @evaweiss1160
      @evaweiss1160 3 роки тому +7

      @@tandago7281 The hourglass is not the natural shape of every woman and the most desirable figure changes a lot with fashion. In the 2000s the ideal was much thinner with almost no curves and just over 20 years it changed to super curvy like instagram models.
      Billy has videos about the padding. Look them up and see for yourself how it works and if you prefer the look with our without padding. Until 100 years ago padding was also part of western garments. Padding has the advantage that you don’t have to alter your natural bodyshape through diet, exercise or even surgery but instead pad out a few areas to achieve the ideal bodyshape for the current fashion.

    Die deutschen Gene zeigen sich. 🤭 This happens to me, and I'm not even German! German was my first non-native language to study, so now every other language that I am trying to learn, I have to pass through German to get to the new language. My brain goes: "Ao. It sounds like Augen. My Augen are blue. Ao means blue."

  • @victoryamauchi4709

    Hey Billy! Stupid question... Two actually.... Why add the waist padding? What is wrong with showing a woman's body curves? Secondly, why pull the collar down behind the neck? Is this to expose the neck? More sexy skin as it were? Is this the same for men? OK, more than 2 questions... ;-)

    • @UyenNguyen-ct1bt
      @UyenNguyen-ct1bt 4 роки тому +5

      Hello, I am not Billy but I want to give your questions an answer. The reason why she use padding here is that kimono seems to avoid showing curves. I mean when you wear kimono, in order to make it look nice and neat, you should avoid showing curves by using padding (it's simply a traditional rule, using padding actually make your kimono outfit look much much better).

    • @UyenNguyen-ct1bt
      @UyenNguyen-ct1bt 4 роки тому +3

      And about the neck, I think the conventional Japanese culture do think that the neck is the most beautiful part of a woman and showing that make the woman more charming. You can search about this on the Internet, I'm sure that there are a lot of helpful materials out there! Hope this help ^^

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  4 роки тому +12

      sorry for the late reply! I wasn't notified about this comment. But Uyen did a great job with answering to your questions. From a more professional insight I have to add that "not showing curves" is also because the kimono and its art itself is what you want to show not yourself. If that makes any sense to you? It's a different culture. Just because other cultures want you to show curves, what is wrong with not showing them? Whilst in Europe women padded, wore whole cages under skirts, and wore corsets to look more curved, in Japan you pad to look not curved. It's just a totally different development in fashion and shows that nothing is "right" or "wrong".
      Second question is the same like Uyen said.
