Loved this episode the most so far only because my relatives live along this line (Seven Kings, Ilford and Manor Park). I first rode it in 92 when it was still NSE. We would ride from Manor Park to Stratford and then jump on the 59 stock of the Central Line. Great memories
I used to work on The London Underground, stripping down trains and re-building them, at Northfields Depot. I then went on to re-wire the old trains, for one man opperation.
Oooh I do love the sounds of those 315 traction motors not to mention those Westinghouse compressors! Thanks guys for another great video, your films always make me smile
Excellent- Interviews make the show. Seeing marked improvements in technique and developing distinctive style- Bravo to the Team (!!). Like Vicki and Geoff’s explorations and discoveries of the interworking of the Railway. Bonus Video adds a lot. Yes great Pull (!!)
Wow, great to see that MTR is running the Crossrail. I've used the Hong Kong MTR before and I'd confess that it's one of the best metro rail systems around. Hence the reason for the MTR-looking livery of the Class 345 trains for the Crossrail. Bonus fact: They also help run some of the lines of the Stockholm Tunnelbana (Metro) and also several metro lines in PR China (notably the Shenzhen Metro just across the border). For the Stockholm trains, they use ST colors though (light blue), but have a small "Run by MTR" or a similar sentence by the doors. Also, props to Geoff for keeping the taboo on the E-Word.
I live there too. They also helped to build the one in Guangzhou, but I couldn't believe that they are all the way here in Ilford XD The 345's do look like the ones that run the Tung Chung line (orange) and the airport express, except it has fewer doors and it doesn't have the emergency access door at the front.
Modified version perhaps to confirm to British rail standards. I think Hong Kong's uses a similar gauge though. And correct me if I'm wrong but do the 345's have more carriages per trainset? Seems so with the platform lengths.
+Avery Lopez-Baines bro almost every major city with a respectable metro system has a better system than new york. MTA is so bad and horribly underfunded and corrupt
I sincerely enjoyed this video. I am looking forward to Crossrail next year. Superb insight into Ilford Depot. What can I say? Thank you to everyone involved.
3:38 Now in 2020, I can’t help feeling a little sentimental about Bombardier. It was the 1974 contract for Montreal’s metro that started Bombardier Transport, I grew up near the Canadair plant, later B. Aviation, and a cousin worked for them. The owners weren’t up to the job, but were great at taking bonuses... Alstom is taking over making the 345’s?
Excellent young engineer. This is the sort of person we need to train for the future. Practical, plain speaking. Getting on with practical tasks. That's how the economy gets better, and we all get a better life.
If you were lucky and you went on TfL rail a few months ago, when they brought the first class 345 to the Ilford depot, it was out in the open for a while and as the train went past, you could catch a glimpse of the class 345 units on your way into the station
We were on a Virgin service (Euston to Liverpool) earlier this afternoon and their was what I think was a Class 345 set sat in sidings just outside of Crewe (on the southern side), looking rather dirty.
In the states it's a five second rule on any food dropped on the floor, but can stretch to 30 if the floor is fairly clean. Keep up the great work, stay safe on your journeys.
I haven't had chance to explore TfLRail yet. Thank's for highlighting that they're currently using the overground (Overground?) platforms at Liverpool St which spurs me on to try them out before Crossrail starts properly. I also liked the 2 little Class 08 shunters at the Bombardier depot; the second was in classic BR blue colour scheme but the first one seemed to be the even earlier BR green. Old style, I like that.
I enjoyed working on the Crossrail Project in that section before moving to London Underground. I worked at Chadwell Heath, Brentwood, Gidea Park and Shenfield. Once completed a lot of it won't be recognizable.
Whenever I saw Shenfield on the way to London, I'd always rejoice, the station is like the void between normal stations and London, it's the start of the Oyster reader on the line I used to take serviced by Greater Anglia
One of the new class 345 Crossrail trains has been in a siding at a depot just to the south of Crewe. I noticed it being there between June 1st and 6th inclusive.
All the TFL rail stations are being made step free access, but those 345 trains look as though there is a tremendous gap between the train and the platforms. In all this extending of platforms, do you know if they'll actually have humps or, lo, raised platforms for level boarding?
Really good video! The Class 315s are well cleaned and looked after despite their replacements the Class 345 EMUs are coming. Wish I could say about my local main line service Great Northern, the Class 313 EMUs have not been refurbished like the 365s have been, from 2018 brand new Class 717 EMUs will start operating. Really looking forward to the first Class 345 in passenger service. Crossrail should order the additional 18 units which will make a total of 84 Aventras so they can operate more services west of Paddington. Roll on Crossrail!
Almost two decades ago an way before this young fellows time, but I used to spend many hours *adjusting the liveries* of Great Eastern at Ilford etc. :P
There's something about the TfL and LO class 315 and 317 exteriors that makes them look really cheap and old - I don't know whether it's just the acres of white paint with no attempt to liven it up, but it doesn't do them any favours!
It's a miniature railway run by the Ilford and West Essex Model Railway Club. The steam train runs on the first Sunday of the month in the summer. They also show off the model railways.
But you never mentioned the now disappeared Ilford loop line behind the depot which used to go to Newbury Park Station - but this is about existing stations so never mind - I do think Geoff and Vicky are the sweetest couple - can I come to your wedding?
I was just about to say that. Delft station has three bike storage areas, with 16 of those racks in each of them :) By the way, the red handle on the top ones allows you to slide out the rack and then push the back end down, so you can easily put your bike on the top rack as well. Quite ingenious :)
My station has a large parking for 4100 bikes. Plus a lot on the side. Plus a later addition. And some more on the other side of the station. And at a nearby office block. Probably 5000 in total.
Why do i get the sensation that Angel Trains are going to send the 315's to Northern _as well_ ? I'm pleased that they are keeping these older trains alive, but there has got to be a limit, right? So far, there are the 319's, D stock (?) maybe even the 442's. No wonder they are always complaining about train services up there.
Tfl rail is great for Essex I use it a lot to get to my girlfriends house in London but cross rail will be even better especially if it does go all the way to West London and beyond
"Elizabeth Line" doesn't really work as a name does it. Obviously inspired by Victoria Line, but that was named after the station, not the queen. There isn't a station called Elizabeth. "Queen Elizabeth line" would sound better.
Sorry, but I'm getting fed up of the number of times the higher ups insist on using the Queen to try to ingratiate themselves on the public. The QE2 bridge. Queens' Hospital in Romford and now this. The name of the line as far as I am concerned is Crossrail or possibly the Liverpool Street or Shenfield Metro line. Calling at Brentwoooood, Harold Woooood...
the hsts are over 40, but that isn't stopping them from renovating them and putting them into use in scotland... or the 1967 victoria line stock being renovated and put into use in northern england. there's probably older stock the current tflrail ones could be replacing somewhere!
James Hendry You do realise it has been a joke ever since they did it since they delayed the release of the video, and everyone was complaining even after it was uploaded for no reason
5:56. That's the best pull-focus shot we've EVER done ... !
All The Stations I felt the same, when's your short film coming out? 😂
All The Stations Ilford!!!! Used to live there!
All The Stations found you 2 in news paper
Alex The Trainspotter I've ordered the Newspaper
TransportAndStuff808 they were in daily express very intresting to read a lot of money gone in to this but its worth it
I'd just like to thank Geoff, Vicki and everyone who helped funded #AllTheStations for making such an awesome daily series!
"This is the line that will become Crossrail next year"
Oh dear.
It won't because crosrail will open in 2021.
Samuel the lego master. r/woooosh
Probably 2022 now
Or the year after, or the year after, or the year after, or the year after, or the year after ........ no wait, it’s the year after!
And now it's open 😂😂

Daniel seems fun and friendly. Also cute.
TRiG (Ireland) +1 for daniel
Met him at Cambridge recently - top guy!
I used to work on The London Underground, stripping down trains and re-building them, at Northfields Depot. I then went on to re-wire the old trains, for one man opperation.
Vicky should go really go to one of the major dutch stations to actually see a lot of bike racks
Oh right, let's do: "All The Fietsenstallingen"
(I'm actually German, but I know some Dutch words lol)
TFL must have racked up a considerable cost installing those bike........
Piet van Everdingen LOL I think we posted this at the same time! 😃👍
Utrecht is a good place to start
Venlo
Oooh I do love the sounds of those 315 traction motors not to mention those Westinghouse compressors! Thanks guys for another great video, your films always make me smile
Excellent- Interviews make the show. Seeing marked improvements in technique and developing distinctive style- Bravo to the Team (!!). Like Vicki and Geoff’s explorations and discoveries of the interworking of the Railway. Bonus Video adds a lot. Yes great Pull (!!)
Comment from the future. Crossrail central core did not open in 2018 but rather 2022. It’s all works very well though.
Wow, great to see that MTR is running the Crossrail. I've used the Hong Kong MTR before and I'd confess that it's one of the best metro rail systems around.

I live in Hong Kong so I spotted the MTR logo too.

We Hongkongers are so proud. :)

I think Vicki definitely needs to visit Dutch railways... I was stunned by the bike racks in Delft. Miles and miles, indoors and out! Jaw dropping.
gobears6487 Amsterdam Central Station, space for 17.500 bikes 😱
@@didierdeweille1722 And earlier this year they opened a new one that's raised the bar
The theme song is really growing on me. I wasn't sure at first but I definitely love it.
have got new version/remixes of it coming soon, and we'll make it available for download on iTunes/Google Play etc ...
+All The Stations Hooray! Agree it's terrific!! Steven Francis, is that right? (need to look up on website again)
‘When crossrail opens next year’ aged well didn’t it

Well that Dan in Ilford was a lovely bloke. He was a treat to hear and show you around. I enjoyed this unusual video. Well done.
Cheers
Were the crisps those lime and coriander mini poppadoms? I can't identify train classes, but I know my snacks.
In the states it's a five second rule on any food dropped on the floor, but can stretch to 30 if the floor is fairly clean. Keep up the great work, stay safe on your journeys.
absolutely love the behind-the-scenes stuff!!
That depot has very very new looking rails/sleepers/balast. Very tidy.
I live in ilford and I am so excited about the new trains
thanks for the update to the new tfl train's . My son can't wait either.
Ilford Depot! - best video yet! 😀
I haven't had chance to explore TfLRail yet. Last time I was on TFL rail it was packed due to problems on the line and over 30 degrees. Much fun :)
Thanks for giving the Transport Museum Friends a shout out!
I enjoyed working on the Crossrail Project in that section before moving to London Underground. I worked at Chadwell Heath, Brentwood, Gidea Park and Shenfield. Once completed a lot of it won't be recognizable.
Very good content at the maintenance depot - well done ATS team!
Whenever I saw Shenfield on the way to London, I'd always rejoice, the station is like the void between normal stations and London, it's the start of the Oyster reader on the line I used to take serviced by Greater Anglia
So happy you covered the line I grew up on :D
From 3:19 some great moquette shots (by V? ah no she appears! it's G!) and this is right up there on my list of favourite moquettes 😃👍
One of the new class 345 Crossrail trains has been in a siding at a depot just to the south of Crewe. I noticed it being there between June 1st and 6th inclusive.
if you exit the station at ilford and walk to ley st where the entrance to the depot is you can often see some of the new crossrail trains.
All the TFL rail stations are being made step free access, but those 345 trains look as though there is a tremendous gap between the train and the platforms. In all this extending of platforms, do you know if they'll actually have humps or, lo, raised platforms for level boarding?

The depot was awesome 👍
Almost two decades ago an way before this young fellows time, but I used to spend many hours *adjusting the liveries* of Great Eastern at Ilford etc. :P
i am in love with the class 508/507
4 years later after this video opening in less then a week
Vicki, if you think Ilford has a lot of bike racks then come to Amsterdam Centraal
Jack Jack Productions Haven’t been to Amsterdam so can’t comment on that, but Cambridge has a few!
0:38 Vicki sits so elegantly on TFL moquette. Brilliant.
I am slightly in love with Dan .... not just because he can take people to see trains :)
3:15 well that aged well 4 years later it finally game. better late than never i guess
OMG the class 360 on line 15 took me to London last week wow
Like that editing
Fantastic!
You went on a 315 on 31.5, coincidence?
KasabianFan44 I think not... *cue illuminati music*
More like the "X-Files Theme Song"
KasabianFan44 imagine if the train left at 3.15 in the afternoon
Even better, she's wearing illuminati earrings
zerosixsplat she’s wearing deathly hallows earrings from Harry Potter
your videos are very informative.
There's something about the TfL and LO class 315 and 317 exteriors that makes them look really cheap and old - I don't know whether it's just the acres of white paint with no attempt to liven it up, but it doesn't do them any favours!
I wonder if they stopped at Romford to do the short run down to Emerson Park?
that train that you got on at shenfield, I been on one of them
You missed my Station Harold Wood. But then nothing to see there :-)
I used to work there and it was really good
If you'd looked over the side at Chadwell heath you'd have discovered yet another railway line...
Is that why there is (or was) an old semaphore signal on the other side of the wall on the Essex bound platform?
It's a miniature railway run by the Ilford and West Essex Model Railway Club. The steam train runs on the first Sunday of the month in the summer. They also show off the model railways.
On the 30th may a new class crossrail unit was in gidea park sidings
"Thanks Crossrail". Throssrail.
bigjaffa02 I love this comment. don't forget your science pencil!
8:15 I'd have been too tempted to shout out "BOGEYS!"
I was on the train today I wish I saw you lol my local station manor park
is their a class 123 train . if their is it would be funny to have a class 123 train next to a class 345.one,
7:14 Geoff looks different in this one!
if you guys ever come to canada i could show you guys the Transcona Rebuild Shops
It's now 2020 and still no Crossrail through London
its been pushed back until 2050
brilliant keep it up!
I love the class 315 trains, I’m so sad to see them go
But you never mentioned the now disappeared Ilford loop line behind the depot which used to go to Newbury Park Station - but this is about existing stations so never mind - I do think Geoff and Vicky are the sweetest couple - can I come to your wedding?
They are the cutest together man! :)
Odd you mention The Transport Museum. Doing the maths, I was there 32 years ago.
so cool!!!
That's not actually that many bike racks at Ilford. Not to Dutch standards, anyway.
I was just about to say that. Delft station has three bike storage areas, with 16 of those racks in each of them :)
By the way, the red handle on the top ones allows you to slide out the rack and then push the back end down, so you can easily put your bike on the top rack as well. Quite ingenious :)

Looking at the flag: Groningen, right?
It's been a while since I've been there, but that sounds good :)
Lol and then there's Amsterdam centraal with 17.500 parking spaces.
Yep. Probably the biggest.
tfl rail is my local i use it loads i swear it's busier than the tube at rush hour
Comment from the future it succeeded
Wish id known you was coming down my line

So far, there are the 319's, D stock (?) maybe even the 442's. No wonder they are always complaining about train services up there.
First when they take over South West Trains are taking the 442s back, fortunately.
Ah, i see, So they're not bothering to make it a light rail network then?
is it me, or is Ilford a little clean to what I'm used to...?
But then again, I'm used to a steam shed....
Commute on that line every week day. It’s not usually that empty! Lol
Why was Shenfield selected as the terminus for crossrail? Seems not to be en route to a major destination
Tfl rail is great for Essex I use it a lot to get to my girlfriends house in London but cross rail will be even better especially if it does go all the way to West London and beyond

Calling at Brentwoooood, Harold Woooood...
Liverpool Street - Shenfield is also known as the Electric Lines
Vicki, go to Amsterdam Centraal to see more bike racks
will you do when you passed the Worthing area
I have been subcri
ng
345, to South Kesington
Compressors are noisy on those ol' 315s aren't they.
Does anyone know what the current TfL trains will do once cross rail comes into force? Thanks!
Lewis Bell There were talks of electrifying the Welsh valley lines and putting them on there, but they're already over 35 years old
the hsts are over 40, but that isn't stopping them from renovating them and putting them into use in scotland... or the 1967 victoria line stock being renovated and put into use in northern england. there's probably older stock the current tflrail ones could be replacing somewhere!
7:55 The deadly hollows Earrings 😊
At 1:21 Does Geoff say "They're making all the stations have stiff reactors"?
Emma Jacobs step free access
Hey guys don’t I know that crossrail is run by MTR And MTR Is in Hong Kong so basically crossrail is run by Hong kong
What is this 'Crossrail' thing you of which you speak? Does it have anything to do with the Lizzie-Line?
what is this 'Lizzie-Line' thing you speak of? we only know about something called Crossrail! :-)
Who else loves the Class 317!
Good video, but you still haven't done the Isle of Wight yet 😜
Alasdair Clift they have.
James Hendry You do realise it has been a joke ever since they did it since they delayed the release of the video, and everyone was complaining even after it was uploaded for no reason
I know, we are SO SORRY Alasdair, we thank you for your continuing patience, we really must get round to it at somepoint!
Does crossrail stop at Harold Wood then?
hong kong's mtr has something to do with crossrail?
I think they are the planned TOC.
Yay! Ilford - my hometown 🏡. Abit of a 💩 hole nowadays though.
HM yep I've lived here since I was born 😂
I went there when i was in london last week and its a dump, smells of piss.
Go to Fairlop, Hainault or Barkingside, they are nicer places of Ilford. Oh, visit Seven Kings again, the neighbourhood looks so much better now.
@@Great_WesternTVFan indeed.
i live in brentwood!! didn't you complete the line and go all the way to liverpool st?
no, we bailed at Stratford. we'd already done Liverpool Street on another day.
9:14 in the top of the video it is the NS logo
sam wildeman Albellio, dat is van de NS
Is this what the Elizabeth Line will be?
'Crossrail' (not Elizabeth Line), yes!
What's the Elizabeth line? jk :P. Yes, this will be crossrail.
I know. #Triggered
Why is it not called the elizabeth line
Skylord Ah Gaming it is called the Elizabeth Line. But Crossrail is a better name.
