Set the turret to the place where you want the stop to be effective. Then remove the cap and adjust the stop ring to touch the stop stop. You then have also set the stop ring height and the clearance will be zero at the setting you selected. Set the set screws, replace the cap. From you can dial upwards, but only downwards until you hit the stop you set. No Easter egging the stop ring height.
This is the hardest way to do a simple task. Just unscrew the top, loosen the brass add the top cap and rotate it to position and remove the top cap. Then tighten the brass and replace the top then tighten it. No guess work.
This is why I really like Athlon optics. I have my 22 comp rifle set for a zero stop at 25 yards but will zero it for 50 yards for match purposes. The only thing I do differently and mostly because it's on a 22 is that on setup Istart at the 25 yard line, set the zero and then go forward from there.
