This is amazing. Your entire process really adds structure to your shoot. I intend to implement something similar. Thank you for explaining the what and the why's!!

OK, I've got to comment and say that this was amazing. I'm starting my journey as a boudoir photographer after a very long time photographing landscape and decay. I'm all about the story in my images, but I'm having a hard time putting that into context with boudoir photography. You have cleared up so much of what is missing from other tutorials, and you certainly achieved your goal that was stated early on. I love your take on boudoir and how it shouldn't just be in your face. I love the subtlety that you want to introduce into your storyline with an emphasis on mood. I've been using Milanote for storyboards, but might just go for the simpler way like you are doing. That speaks to me, and fits the way that I think through a shoot much better. Thank you for this video!

Right on - thank you so much for the kind words and I'm thrilled that this process/video made an impact for you. Story drives everything in my work and a great example of that is the story I've been working on these past few months. There is going to be a significant change to the channel and what I focus on as my new brand is launching this week. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!

I plan with the women I photograph for a long time...sometimes as much as a year, depending on schedules, where they live, etc. (longest was 2 years of on-off discussions of what we were going to do during the session). It really does help a lot, even if it's not as "formal" as what you've shown...take the time to discuss ideas...why they like the inspiration images they've shared, how the images you've curated match that, how to take an idea they have and make it "more!"
I do love the way you described the "direct address" portion. While I can give decent direction in posing, it's that added element of 'story' coming from the client that I need to bring into it more often than I do.
    Nicely done!

Right on my friend and I am thrilled to hear this! That level of dedication to your client makes all the difference, in regard to brand experience. Plus the art is that much stronger for the effort involved. Direct address is a key factor in performance/scripts and when a character chooses to do so in a story, big things are about to happen :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching!

@@RealityReimagined I really like the idea of direct address. Having written a number of short-fiction pieces, that sort of exposition never played into it...but I can recall it from the handful of theater productions I've gone to.
"Good artists copy. Great artists steal." Not saying I'm great, but I'm stealing this idea. :)

This is a great insight to how to prepare for a shoot , usually I just wing it, but Ive never done this type of work ( the wife wouldnt like it LOL)
But I can see how this will work on any shoot

Oh I hear you, on all fronts :) I sometimes am in shock at how much I (still) just gather all of the gear and on the drive to the location, I suddenly start thinking about "what do I want to capture here?" However every-single-time I plan like this, I come away feeling FRUSTRATED about the shoot. Frustration because I got a ridiculous amount of GREAT imagery and GREAT experience and then have to wade through all of it to figure out what to sell to the client :)
(also my wife wasn't thrilled at first with me doing boudoir long ago. However she quickly saw, because of the planning, that this was about beauty and story, not porn. So planning and showing your intent can help ease the worries of our loved ones AND the client :) ) Thanks for watching!

I know that this is many months after you commented, but I wanted to share that I used to think that same thing about what my wife would think about me doing boudoir photography. Ironically, I wanted to try my hand at some bodyscapes and she was my only choice for a model because...well, I was nervous enough asking her to do it, much less asking if I could have somebody else come in to model. She agreed and actually loved the experience so much that she suggested that I get into the boudoir field. I was amazed and shocked. She has helped me as I've been learning the craft. I think that it is important to have your wife involved so that she can see just how on task you have to be during shoots like this. There is no time, or energy for anything outside of the photography.

My apologies on the delay of response - there is a whole retouching series on the channel that gives you the basics through advanced. Check the playlists and it should be there. Thank you so much for watching and I wish you the best on your journey!

FYI when with a massive tv, we can’t really see the Pinterest photos let alone the details.

As you showed these inspiration images I was trying to pick mine so see if we would match up and 100% we did. Because a lot of my boudoir shoots are really to showcase my hosiery brand I love the glass of wine as a prop to tell a story of the person. One that she comes home from work and had a rough day and sits down and has a glass of wine still wearing her holdups and relaxing. But at the end of the busy and rough work day you still look as confident and sexy as you did in the morning when you got dressed

Right on!! This is a fantastic story and precisely what I was talking about. You can visualize almost every image and scene to play out, then sequence it to fit the session and the client. Truly makes for a great "experience" for the client that is vastly different than the norm of "come in and feel empowered!" Love it, now shoot it and let me know how it goes. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching!
