This is one of the best Criterion Closet segments I've seen. Barbara Sukowa is amazing!
Instantly one of my favorite closet videos. The way she described watching movies and being exhausted from paying too much attention is so relatable!
what a collection of anecdotes!
It's incredible how many great artists the closet has "housed". Love her.
Lovely, bright, warm, talented Women with interesting stories, great taste and no agenda. Wonderful.
That first thing she says about being exhausted by being so invested in the thing you are observing is so true for me. But instead of films its sports in my case. Im sort of the worst friend you can have at a sports event. I barely notice you are there, im fully immersed in what happens.
Absolutely can relate. I find it difficult to begin watching films because I devote 100% of my focus to it. It's the same with sports for me, especially MMA and boxing. I become completely engulfed by it all.
Definitely. When you’ve performed in athletics, and KNOW what it feels like to burst into a sprint for 20 yards at full speed, and then you see the very top tier athletes do it dozens of times for a full match, it’s tough to not drain some of your own energy. Her description is a perfect comparison: imagining or remembering the set-building, the camera blocking, the tech crew learning their marks, the wasted takes, the safety takes. Art is only the athletics of the mind. Both fields are so much more intertwined than most people want to believe
Been invested in all three. Apples oranges and lemons 😒
One of my all time favorite cinematic scenes is that moment when Franz meets Mieze in "Berlin Alexanderplatz." It went beyond instant attraction. Beyond love at first sight. It was as if both had been struck by an electrical current. If that was a Fassbinder "one take," kudos to the acting talent of both Mr. Lamprecht and Ms. Sukowa.
😮 One of my favorite actresses of all time! Her work with Fassbinder, in particular, is so special to me 🥰 Lola and Berlin Alexanderplatz are must-owns among the CC.
You just know she's gonna pick choice films!
Each of her selections is a masterful film.
PS. Love hearing her talk about Masina, another of my all-time favorites.
Fassbinder, not Michael Fassbender :)
I just check my imdb ratings of her filmography and i have watched 7 movies with her and i have absolutely no idea who is she
Me too. Several great films. It was also cool that she starred in the 12 Monkeys tv series. Hopefully something that's not just a 4K bump coming from Criterion…
@@rockinresurrection6542 Awww, man, you caught me slippin' - thank you! 😆 I often get mixed up when typing out either of their names... considering I love them both, and pronounce their names properly, one would think I could remember how they're spelled lol!
Correcting it now 😁👍
instant favourite closet picks clip
Love her! Great picks and great stories!
The Sukowa! I love the stories she has to tell.
I remember her distinct voice from THE SICILIAN, EUROPA and M. BUTTERFLY. She had some interesting stories to tell here.
Her voice was dubbed over in The Sicilian.
I love watching her put the discs in her bag.
Wonderful actress. Loved her in "Two of Us" a few years ago. Her choices are excellent, but I am hoping against hope this is some hint that perhaps Criterion may be releasing her sublime "Marianne and Juliane" one day? I have completely worn out my New Yorker VHS....
3 Women is one of my all time favs! Great picks
One of my favourite actresses. I hope Marianne and Juliane gets a Criterion release some day.
Great actress with some great stories! Love all the name drops!
i just watched Naked for the first time and La strada for the 3rd time. Nice timing, Barbara!
Classic closet pick. Thanks.
Every one of her picks is an essential if you love movies. Too bad Visconti seems to have been forgotten. Love the Cassavetes and Fassbinder stories.
Your statement is pure bs, everyone has different tastes so the "if you love films" is a fallacy and Visconti has not been forgotten.
@@space.midnight.cowboy Spicy!
@@space.midnight.cowboy Maybe, but it should be possible to rate movies from a technical point objectively
@@rockinresurrection6542 is not possible to do that, cinema is different for people and for filmmakers. I choose the Back to the Future trilogy over any Tarkovsky, Kieslowski films, in other words films represent different things, it does not mean one is better than the other.
Thanks Rosa Luxemberg .
Would have loved to see her collaborate with Cassavetes and Gazzara.
she is wonderful!
Loved her in Fassbinder's films.
She had really expressive eyes when she was young.
So, she's also a Camp Cimino alumna
Still looks great! If she had only done Berlin Alexanderplatz, she would still be one my favorite actresses for her tragic, compelling performance!
Fabulous.
How do I watch the Pace brothers’ episode in the U.S.? It doesn’t show up in the UA-cam channel at all.
This is getting to be a real thing here, with me saying I could listen to her or him talk for hours! And so, here we are again....I could listen to Ms. Sukaowa talk for hours.
Thanks for sharing these memories.
Incrível atriz
Goddess!!!
A life lived 😎
💜
☆You were so good as Hannah Arendt☆
You turned down Ingmar Bergman, yikes!!!
Royalty
La Strada was the only Fellini film that I really liked.
Bring uwe boll on
I noticed that most people in the closet gravitate to some of the same movies, like: "8 1/2", Klute, Being there, Varga, Seconds,
and surprisingly anything involving John Cassavettes?
Yeah, Tempest, Gena Rowlands, Seymour Cassel........ It's strange implants, impressions, and Fisting..... I'm convinced these are the culprits and chain smoking priests usually Camel filter less.... 🕊️
Damn to turn down Bergman, that must suck.
can you re-release Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films, 1954-1975 - The Criterion Collection only in English language
First
I mean no offense to previous ones, but there have been so many boring guests that you watch with reverence and admiration but you're really bored, shes on the other hand, fascinating
When’s Greta Gerwig‘s episode coming out?
Tip: don’t let a man influence your choices
... who?
