    I still think Michael Bisping’s short notice title fight is the craziest of all time. Most of the guys on this list were bound to get a title shot eventually. With Bisping he had got beat by the current champ and had multiple people ahead of him. He came in with barely any training, one eye, and KOed Rockhold. Left hook Larry forever the BMF.

      But at the same time alot of people say that one only really happened because of how much rockhold underestimated him, and if he would've treated him like he was the original opponent he could've done better. Just what I understand from it tho

      Although I don’t completely disagree with you bisping found a chink in his armour a bad habit of constantly dropping his lead hand, being a southpaw with your opponent an orthodox a left hook is a kriptonite weapon, and bisping may not be the biggest one punch ko arris he landed a perfect shot on the chin then followed up finishing him putting him out in the process, maybe rockhokd did underestimate bisping because of the first fight that gave him the impression he was level above mike is on him and doesn’t make the win any less legendary, that’s my opinion respectfully

    You coulda done Joe Soto some more justice. He gave TJ a helluva lot tougher fight than he had the right to under the circumstances, and "got knocked out in the *5TH* round" means that debuting guy held his own against the champ.

    • @KyleJustRuns
      @KyleJustRuns 10 місяців тому

      Not disagreeing with ya on your general point about Soto, specifically. However, there are plenty of fights showing that your point- that making it to the 5th or even going to a decision against a champion means the losing fighter “held his own” against the champ-is wrong. The fights that immediately come to mind are: Katter v. Holloway, Holloway v. Volkanovski III, and Ortega v. Volkanovski. The champs won all three of these fights; all three fights made it to the 5th or a decision. Yet, not one of these fights was remotely competitive. Katter took around 600 of Max’s best punches. Holloway was himself completely dismantled in the decision loss to Volk in their rubber match. Finally, Ortega was basically murdered by Volk (although the triangle and gullotine attempts were world class; Volk is just a pure competitive monster). That one may have been stopped in the fourth but am pretty sure it was stopped right at the start of the 5th, with everyone saying his corner should have called it after the 4th. Either way, these fights clearly show that going 5 rounds with a champ doesn’t mean it was a good or close fight. Still, I think your overall point about Soto is right.

      @@KyleJustRunsvalid points, different circumstances. The fights you cited all had challengers who had dominant runs in the organization to get to the belt. Soto debuted… on short notice no less, in the TJ fight.
      Considering the massive step up in competition when entering the UFC, plus the experience gained from fighting on the prelims, then the main card a couple of times once IN the org. shouldn’t be overlooked or diminished in its importance at all.
      Therefor, simply comparing the Soto/Dilla fight to essentially any other title fight that ended in the 5th, or thereabouts, feels a little bit like apples to oranges

  • @karlferguson
    @karlferguson 10 місяців тому +28

    Volk probably knew deep down that this would’ve been a bad choice but you know he’s a company man. He was definitely swayed by the decision to save the card and unfortunately this meant that he didn’t stick to what he would normally do which is to be a professional.
    He deserves just as much respect for taking this on and saving the card as he does for his first performance. Even though the result wasn’t there he never say die attitude was and that’s all we can ask from a fighter.

Beating Anderson the former champ that reigned through most of bisping's journey. Bisping getting a run back against Rockhold on short notice, who also destroyed him in there first fight. Bisping was also shooting a movie and not training for a fight. Then after Bisping's career he reveals he only had 1 eye after TRT Vitor fight. Also, when we look back at it, before the fight the UFC was calling Rockhold the future of the division. Then bisping destroyed Rockhold's future, he went from the future to a meme.

    Has UFC ever talked about complementing the fight + bonus money with a monthly wage ($1k-$10k a month depending on ranking)? The added security would be HUGE to a lot of fighters. I think the value to fighters would outweigh the cost to UFC and all the talk about fighter pay might come to a close.

      Really unrealistic, there’s about 600 fighters right now and if all of them only got 1,000 a month that’s at minimum 600k. Just isn’t realistic

      @@hkxcheIt’s absolutely realistic as less than 10% revenue goes to fighters.

      @@hkxche The UFC generated more revenue in 2022 than every other combat sports promotion combined (over $1 billion). If UFC payed all 600 fighters 10k (not 1k) a month it would be a merely $36 million a year cost.

      Bro I literally fight in a cage, and that comment wasn't disrespectful 🤣 we ain't that soft....if people don't know our name that doesn't hurt our feelings lol. Name 5 fighters from a promotion other than the UFC, or bellator...? Truth is there are loads of guys even in the UFC presently that 99% of fight fans wouldn't recognize. Becoming a household name in MMA is terribly hard man, ol boy was just trying to emphasize the fact that he wasn't as famous or well known as other options.

    I just gotta say *When it comes to volk, with hindsight we should have all seen that him having to cut more weight then he usually does on such sort notice, would greatly impact his durability. He just got back from a surgery on his arm, wasn't training fully... He should have never taken that fight with those circumstances... Islam literally had a full camp, decent time off, volk fought Yair in-between the time, while islam hasn't fought since the last volk fight. Of course volk will be the most compromised and able to be wobbled more than he ever has been... Because he usually doesn't crash cut weight and have all these things challenging him on a 10 day short notice hail mary situation... With hindsight i really wish we all supported Volk in not doing this because Islam would NEVER have accepted and done what volk did if the circumstances were exactly the same... That's just the truth.. so i hope people don't be too hard on volk or over analyze like (now he's losing it..) it's like, no. There was just a dumb moment in time where someone great took a huge risk and it didn't work. That doesn't mean they are now going downhill in their career, etc. Etc. Like all these videos talking about "they are worried about volk" like come on.. we as fans should not be this harsh.. no story is ever the same. We shouldn't be so all or nothing.
