For some reason, I didn’t realize that Cyclone was a full-on younger/babier rat (just thought she was simply a new rat about the same age as Cin and Cape) and so I was not prepared to see how much smaller she looks compared to Cin and Cape 🥺💕💕
Rats pick their alpha by whoever is the biggest diva tbh so it's common for it to not be the toughest or most able. Kind of just another odd thing about them compared to other animals
The amount of POOF in Cape, oh my gosh. Still, I'm glad she went back to curiosity after a bit of posturing/dominating her sister. Threatened, but also curious as hell. A good sign, overall!
The point about a glove or a towel for separatibg cannot be overstated. The only times I have ever been bitten have been when I've pushed a bare hand into the middle of a fight to break it up. They're amped, defensive and ready to scrap, so someone pushing into the middle of the mess suddenly absolutely will be taken the wrong way. Use anything but a bare hand to separate them. They don't mean anything bad by it, but rat bites really hurt if they get spooked.
I can confirm this. I keep pet mice and once had to break up a fight between my alpha girl Pippi and one of the newbies, Ruby. Absolutely learned the hard way not to push in with a bare hand, as Pip gave me a pretty nasty bite that bled/hurt like heck for the next few minutes lol, she was so riled up. So yeah, definitely using a glove next time!
You have amazing content and I'm just so invested in your rats I wouldn't and couldn't emotionally handle rats perishing so soon so it's nice to live through them with your content.
She never introduced cape and Cin her first video was posted a day after this Channel was created and it didn’t do anything with introducing cape and Cin, we just kinda got to know the amazing little potatoes
Cage neighbours is definitely the best start, I’ve found (after 26 pet rats of my own) it always takes longer to introduce one baby, as opposed to two babies, they’ll be extra nervous when the inevitable dominance hierarchy wrestling matches happen! Keeping them as cage neighbours for a solid week definitely sounds like a good plan, I personally never attempt it any sooner, only baby rat to baby rat introductions have ever been quicker than that. I’ve actually never had a blind rat do this process before so that’ll be interesting to see if there’s any unique complications regarding that. I presume at worst it’ll just slow progress down, I’ve had “difficult personalities” in previous pet rats that required the new rats being cage neighbours for three full weeks, but they were besties later on once they finally trusted the newcomers, so just go by whatever pace your rats seem to need! 😊
First time rat owner here and lemme tell you I was shitting myself when my alpha boy started doing the whole puff up and kicking thing like 😤😠😤😠😤 I would put my hand up after petting the newby to the cage and he was so PISSED it’s comical seeing such tiny creatures get so pressed 😭
I unfortunately had one instance where I was at school and my girls had a pretty intense battle while I was gone. Luckily Cream (one of the ratties) ended up being ok but it was pretty scary to come home to
@@friendlyratforecast to be honest that makes lots of sense, plus I think Cin sometimes gives food to cape. Because you know rats are very social creatures and plus we all know that Cin, have some idea that cape is blind so you know she helps her a lot
When I got my 3rd rat after my 1st one's pal died, I was going to take it slow and it was going good so far, except when I placed the cages next to each other for a while and the new one kept biting the damn bars trying to get to the other rat. It was stressing me out and one day I had enough of them trying to knaw out of their cages to get to one another, so I just plopped the new one in with my older one and went to bed. Turns out it went very well, and now they're best buds, have never seriously fought and are always cuddling 😊Still 1000% recommend doing a slow method and I will do the same for the next rat I am getting soon 😊😊
what cage where you keeping cyclone in? I plan to get a new pair of rats for my older boys and want to have a nice cage for quarantine that isnt really expensive
I just hang a small bird cage on the side of the big cage and put the baby rat in there. After 1-3 days I put the big rats in the small cage one at a time to meet the little one. This is because rats won't fight in new enclosed spaces, makes them feel at a disadvantage. Leave them in there for a minute until they are trying to run from the baby rat. Do this step about 5 times. Within 1-3 days the smells will be mixed and danger over. Put the new rat in big cage to play and if one rat gets into a dominance battle one of the females will usually grab the baby rat and run off with it to keep it safe acting like its mother.
With male rats if they fight it's best to if they get too loud to flip them over onto their backs and dominate them. Mike have learned not to act like that if I'm around or others they know because people are associated with a dominant figure
I used to have 4 girls but over the years we're down to just 1 lonely girl. I'm thinking of getting 1-2 new girls but the struggles and risks have me hesitant.
i did the cage introduction thing also, but my 2 females started to fight each other when they smelled the new one. Took some time for them to stop lashing out at each other because of the new member smell...
I recently got a new rat, arctic/marshmallow ( haven’t decided) and my other rat, willow, is well a mamas girl. Willow keeps making a hissing sound, by my guesses it’s a dominance thing, but do cape and cin do this?
I’m actually getting 2 silvermane dumbo rats at 6:30pm today, do you have any tips? They’re siblings so I don’t know if I need to do as much as you would with completely different rats.
I don’t think so! I also had two sisters that came together, and the only fight they did was to choose the “alpha” between them. After that, they were really nice to eachother and to me! 💕 And good luck with your new chaos potatos! 🐁🐀✨
Hello! Just a quick question, how do you get rats to adapt to car travel and what are some situations where you would bring your rats with you on vacation?
I had two rats, one died, so I got a baby rat as a new partner and my method was: took the baby, put it in front of Elton and said: "Here you have a new Patner, Elton". Elton being an old (2yrs) rat didn't give a fuck. He just wanted to be left alone (I guess mourning his old partner Ash), but he sometimes bonded with Chipilín. Then I got another baby rat, Elton kept his attitude, Chipilín liked his new friend (they are almost the same age). By the final months of Elton's life, the three of them got along pretty well. I guess I was lucky??
Nope, Cyclone can definitely see! Having red eyes doesn’t necessarily mean that the rat is blind, Cape just happens to be. Having red/pink eyes does mean that their eyesight is worse than other rats though, but that doesn’t affect a rat much because their eyesight isn’t great to begin with. ❤️
I got a question, I’m a new rat owner and with mine I got one from a friend then like a week later got one on my own since I know their social animals. When I made them meet I just put them together and watched how they react. Their fine and have some fights but is what I did ok for meeting or should I have done something different just so I know for next time
Any recommendations for me I’ve just got two new 10 week old boys and they’ve had their cages next to each other for a few days and today my other two year old rats got to see them up close while the baby’s were in the cage and they were on the floor outside of it and the alpha started acting very defensive but didn’t try to bite them through the cage but I don’t know if it’s a good idea to do face to face with them any time soon
For some reason, I didn’t realize that Cyclone was a full-on younger/babier rat (just thought she was simply a new rat about the same age as Cin and Cape) and so I was not prepared to see how much smaller she looks compared to Cin and Cape 🥺💕💕
Really? She has that baby face 😄.
